I went to Alinea for their Gallery @ Alinea tasting menu. You need to make the restaurant aware at least 48 hours in advance of any dietary restrictions. They did ask me questions about what I was able to eat gluten wise and it seemed to be a test to ensure I’m actually gluten free vs. it’s a lifestyle choice.

Going in based on my email conversation I thought they weren’t going to modify courses to accommodate gluten free but I was pleasantly surprised.

They did a great job to ensure every single one of my courses was GF and for things that couldn’t have gluten removed they made me substitutes of GF cakes. The entire experience was incredible and I would recommend it for other celiacs.

My husband and I are "foodies", so I was devastated by my diagnosis of celiac 6 months ago. On our recent trip to Chicago, I booked a reservation for this dining experience and they did not disappoint. Although they repeatedly warn that they cannot guarantee against cross-contamination from their suppliers, they sent me two emails beforehand inquiring about food allergies and restrictions and then about the specific details of my food restrictions. Dinner was amazing and they made gluten free substitutions wherever necessary while maintaining the integrity of their dishes.

Not just a dinner -- an experience! A $300 per person experience that you have to buy a ticket well in advance, but actually worth it. Three Michelin stars, and I see why. They made the whole evening special for us, with my celiac son's gluten-free version of everything indistinguishable from ours. Every dish had unique, clever features, both in composition and in presentation, and everything was delicious. Food as edible art. We still talk about it a year later. You have to plan ahead to come here, and mortgage your home to fund it, and it will spoil you for most other restaurants, but just go.
