They clean the grill for GF items. Bacon wasnice and crisp, GF pancakes were ok but dense...I'd get an omlet next time. Service was great! Coffee good. Was a little pricey.

Recently moved to Williamsburg and decided to try Capitol Pancake House since they advertise having Gluten Free (GF). The place reminds me of an old school diner with the yummy diner food. However, Capital Pancake House has GF pancakes and waffles, which are large and GREAT!!! This is fabulous because if you are GF, you know you normally have to make these items at home yourself. There are other GF items on the menu – but nothing that involves a fryer (no dedicated fryer). Our server was knowledgeable regarding GF and made sure that everything on our plates were GF.
Separate gluten-free menu - there is a section on the main menu that lists the GF items.
We are looking forward to eating there again.

Cute little diner! There wasn’t necessarily a separate gluten free menu, but there were gf marked items! When I told our waitress that it was for an allergy (just easier than saying celiac) she told me not to worry and that she was going to take care of me and that I didn’t even need to explain. I have never had that happen before, and while there was some uncertainty, I did feel very safe and I didn’t get sick! I could’ve cried because I haven’t had a waffle in 2 years and that was the best waffle I have ever had!

Was super sick for 24 hours, 30 minutes after eating here. Should’ve known after feeling so full after a few bites. My bf ate here as well and was fine. He’s not gluten free.
They reassured me the chef had verified it was gluten free due to me being celiac. Was reassured multiple times, they brought out the food first and said all the right things. Beware.

Came on vacation with our two celiac sons, one non-celiac son and two adults. Service was excellent, portions were plentiful - especially for the tween boys, and gf knowledge and service were excellent. Gf food was marked, and even arrived on a separate tray. Server was happy to make sure the boys got a meal that they were happy with, and not settling. We will absolutely return again!!

Traveling with family. Pickup this place from past reviews. Great place for breakfast. Wait staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. GF Menu seemed small but waitress explained all of my available options from regular menu. Tons of options. Food was marked and brought out separately from everyone else's. Great experience.

Big restaurant with friendly staff (the greeter was particularly chatty with guests). Sure, it’s a bit overpriced for just a pancake or waffle, but the food was good. Gluten free menu could be larger, but I suppose it made sense for a restaurant that’s only open for breakfast and lunch. Would recommend if you’re heading into Colonial Williamsburg for the day, as there aren’t too many choices in the historical village.

My celiac daughter had a burger (with GF bun) and home fries and loved it . Did not get sick. It took a long time to get our food- they were really busy and said they had to clean the prep area for GF- but it was good!

Traveling with my family and we all had a tasty breakfast here! The omelettes weren’t marked as being in the GF section of the menu but our server checked with the kitchen and confirmed that mine could be made in a separate/clean skillet. I had a GF pancake too, which wasn’t amazing but the novelty of having one I didn’t have to cook myself made up for it. Long wait overall (irrelevant to the extra time needed for my part of the order) but I think they’re just short-staffed right now like so many other places.

I saw reviews saying they only cleaned the grill to cook gf pancakes, so I asked the waitress and she assured me there was a separate area used to prepare them. I ordered an omelet and gf pancake topped with cinnamon apples. The omelet tested gluten free on my NIMA and didn’t make me sick. The pancake tested gluten found and had a pretty visible third line (more than a little cross contamination). I told the waitress and she was very confused because she again said the pancakes were cooked in a separate area, and then she brought out the pancake mix to show me the ingredients. I told her that the sensor detected cross contamination, not necessarily that the mix had gluten in it. So I’m not sure if they really just clean the grill in between regular and gf pancakes or maybe the cinnamon apples were the cause of the gluten found result. The omelet was really good though and it was huge so I didn’t need to order anything else anyway. They didn’t charge me for the pancake.

Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted good. My steak was cooked right (medium rare), which so many places get wrong. The home fries are GF if they are not deep-fried. Pancakes are big, fluffy, vanilla pancakes. Waffles also good!

I ate the western omelette and told the waitress I was gluten free. She made sure to keep my meal separate to avoid any cross contamination. The service was excellent and they could make almost everything on the menu gluten free. One of my favorite breakfast places in Williamsburg.

I got pancakes with bananas and Strawberries. They were huge pancakes and delicious! My gluten-eating husband said you can barely tell the difference. i also got scrambled eggs which were very tasty as well, and I have leftovers, it was so much food! They were a little slow but very busy, I don't blame them at all. The server said they clean the grill before making GF pancakes, and they come out marked with a toothpick. She also carried my plate on one hand, away from the other plates, and gave me mine first to avoid CC. I am very happy and WILL go back

Had a GF waffle with cinnamon apple topping and whipped cream. Made sure that precautions against cross contamination were taken and my food came out with a wooden pick that clearly marked it as GF. Waffle was light and airy and far too large for me to even eat 1/2 of it! Celiac here and I had zero reactions. Smaller GF menu/offerings for breakfast though. Larger lunch selection. Establishment closes at 2pm.

Edit: The next 2 times I went, the pancakes were soft and fluffy! They must have been slightly over cooked the first time. So good and loaded with chocolate chips! Bacon is good too. They also said the sausage and the breakfast potatoes are GF. Very happy!
I was very happy to get my favorite breakfast - chocolate chip pancakes! The texture of the pancakes was a bit tough for me but the chocolate chips helped. I enjoyed it. Was told that breakfast meats on the menu are also GF.

First and foremost the staff and management here are extremely kind, welcoming, and helpful. The atmosphere here is just what you’d expect from a breakfast place. A lot of the menu is available gluten free and that is labeled pretty clearly. I ended up getting the omelette and pancake combo with a Philly cheesesteak omelette and chocolate chip pancakes. The omelette was so thick and there were so many pancakes, it could have easily feed more than one person! Would come here again.

Wonderful place and great food! They even have signage out front indicating that they have GF food, which is very clearly identified on the menu. The service was fantastic and very generous portions. Our waitress even mentioned that they were cleaning the grill. I didn’t have to ask. First time getting breakfast in a restaurant in over 3 years. We will be back if ever in the area again.

My husband and I are both gluten free. I have Celiac and he’s gluten intolerant. We both ordered the gluten free pancakes with fruit. First it took forever to get our food. The waitress said they had to clean the grill off to make our pancakes (yikes). When it came out my husband had 5 blueberries on his blueberry pancakes. I had bananas with whipped cream. The bananas were cut a awhile ago and had shriveled up. My pancakes were raw in the middle. My husband said his where hard as rocks. Just gross experience. Would never go back.

Two visits. Consistent results. Perfect spot for our breakfast. They really know gf and had good gf breakfast and lunch options. Server was lovely. Family owned and operated. One of owners was there when we were there. Highly recommend this for both gf and non gf.
Went with a family member who has celiac and is highly sensitive to gluten and no issues.
Caveat to add. Wanted to go back and they are not now offering outdoor dining, even on a Sunday morning, due to staffing challenges. They will let you do take out and bring to table they have set up outside though.

We wanted to eat here because we expected to be able to have a gluten-free breakfast outside. We thought they had probably added the patio seating due to COVID-19. No, the patio seating is only available on weekends, which is not stated on their web site:-(

It is hard to find a breakfast place that offers truly gluten free waffles and pancakes. To my surprise and this establishment does. Our server was fully aware of celiac disease and dairy intolerances. The cook cleaned the counters and grill before preparing our meals. The portion sizes are hearty and we haven’t had any negative reaction to the food.

I spoke with the manager when I arrived, he was seating us. He said to make sure I tell the waitress that I have celiacs. All I said was “I have celiac disease” and she said “I got you”. Separate GF section on menu plus seasonal items. I had GF pumpkin waffle and sausage for breakfast. They cleaned the griddle, made sure there was a glove change, brought my food out separately to ensure no cross contamination and excellent communication from the staff. Food tasted amazing and I didn’t react to it.
I highly recommend this place!

We decided to give Capital a try based on the reviews. I’m really glad we did! Although they offer gluten-free pancakes and waffles, I went with an omelette that was big enough to serve a family of four! When ordering, I mentioned to our waiter that I have celiac and he immediately began letting me know what I could/not have - hash browns on the grill versus deep fried because they don’t have a separate fryer. It’s standard breakfast items (they serve lunch as well with a few gf options) done well and you won’t leave hungry. We’d definitely stop by next time we’re in Williamsburg

Oh my goodness they are fantastic! They were crazy busy and they didn’t screw up the order. They had color coded toothpicks to identify the gf pancakes because they looked just like the gluteny ones a friend got. The server knew exactly what was safe even regarding the non-menu items ( specials). Plus, the gf menu is integrated into the regular menu in really clear ways. No side effects at all. The pancakes had NO texture, taste or cooking issues!!!! 10/10 would go again!
My son said the pancakes were ok, but he didn't get sick so I guess it is a plus. Very expensive for just breakfast. Over $80.00 with tip for 4 people and my one son only got 2 pancakes and water.
I had the original waffles and eggs. They show you a small box of GF items but you can have almost all the dishes the box is just the GF options to sub in for gluten full items.
Yes
I ordered pancakes, got a waffle. Ok, no big deal, I was hungry. $11 for a single waffle with fruit on top. Fruit was peaches, canned peaches dumped on top. I could not cut the waffle with a fork... took a knife as it was so chewy. My jaw hurts now from eating this waffle. It filled a void in my stomach and that is it, don’t expect much. I don’t get the numerous positive reviews..
