Awesome, yet CLOSED down last fall!
Had trouble ordering take out from johnny carino's. They told us they could do chicken primavera without pasta until we pressed issue of menu we saw on line. Finally told us it would be half hour wait. We were ok with that not the telling us they had no pasta.
Minus stars. Was excited about their partnership with Udis but they cross contaminate like crazy and the wait staff have no idea about their gluten free menu. Gluten free pizza thrown on a stone where all regular pizzas cooked. One waitress said you would need to build your own gluten free pizza and guess at their ingredients at what looked like what might be gluten free....I don't know what seasonings are in any of their meats. Soup is gluten free but don't even bother to use separate ladle. 10 thumbs down
I would not give it a star at all. Host did not know about a gluten free menu. Menu has marked gluten free items but they were few. As an Italian restaurant, and advertised as gluten free, it had no gluten free pasta. Salad came with croutons on it. Food was blah.
I had spicy chicken and shrimp, salad with vinaigrette and food was tasty but I reacted while in restaurant-I believe due to the bread smell. Air was very aromatic with it. The food could have also been contaminated 2nd visit I had skilletinj with Italian sausage Nd GF minestrone soup. Skilletini was too oily for my taste but probably from sausage. Service was good. I was already having gluten symptoms from another meal 2 days before so do not know if any additional symptoms from this meal as symptoms have not subsided. Meal is ok but I will avoid the sausage in future.
I was very impressed with the server in the manager. They took time to listen to my questions and answer them even if it meant they had to take a little extra time. They paid close attention to my request, and accommodated me in a very satisfactory manner. The gluten free menu had plenty of delicious options. I left feeling fully satisfied!
I love carinos!! They are so helpful & have developed a great GF menu. As everywhere else, You have to remind servers of needing it to be GF & things like fish not breaded, But I've never gotten sick here. & the food is fantastic! With our Carinos cars our kids eat free so it's usually not too bad of a bill.
My server Freddie knew exactly what to do when I mentioned gluten free, but apparently the kitchen did not. Not a lot to choose from but the chicken marsala was fantastic. Gluten free options are listed on the main menu. About 6 options to choose from, most of them with a butter cream sauce (which I also must avoid). Chicken marsala seemed safe, but I had digestive issues all night. Cross contamination perhaps?
The waitress put croutons in my soup !!! I told her not to simply remove the croutons but to bring me a new soup. Them anorher waitress came to talk to me about their GF pastas and she did not know if they were warmed in the same water as their regular pastas... So I took their bunless burger... This was so why i came in an italian restaurant... :-( If you come here, be sure to ask many questions to your waitress to ensure she knows what gluten is and how to handle your plate
While I usually base my reviews primarily on the food, this one gets one star for service. Some of our food came out 50 minutes after we ordered it. then 10 min later then 10 min later. Some food was cold, our drinks were never refilled and they blamed everything on the kitchen.
Menu was clearly marked. Servers seemed somewhat knowledgeable about GF diet. If you are very sensitive, it probably isn't the best place to eat.
They do have a gluten free menu with actual gluten free options, including gluten free pasta choices. Most of the waiters are aware of gluten when you tell them. I did not get sick when I went there, although the gluten free options were a little bland, but not bad.
Loved their gluten free pasta. They were very nice and aware of the gf allergy
great accommodations to my specific needs.
Expanded gf menu with pasta and pizza. Separate kitchen area for gf
Great pasta and pizza. Gf!!! Need to get us some gf bread! One problem my son had on 2nd visit the kitchen made mistake on pizza and put on wrong crst😒corino's apologized and gave free meal. Great but the damage is done😞. All staff in needs to know gf especially kitchen.
Always, always have the best meals at the Katy Carino's!! Flavorful food done well!! They now have gluten free pasta's and pizza. Pasta was nice with the fresh marinara. Truthfully everything that make is wonderful, they know how to use herbs and flavor food. They really have stepped up to provide us with an array of choices!! Thank you Johnny Carino's you are the best Italian restaurant hands down in Katy, Tx!!!!
Watch out. Staff takes shortcuts.
very very disappointed! read about new GF menu launch. got there and server said there was no GF pasta only GF pizza. so, i ordered a pizza. an hour into our wait, the server said everyone else's food was finished but they were waiting on my pizza. a few minutes later the truth came out that they made a regular pizza and upon further investigation to fix their mistake, they did not have GF pizza crust. so, my family ate while i watched. the manager came and apologized and said they would try to make me something. i said at that point i did not trust their judgement on preparing me food that would not make me sick. I would give negative stars if i could!
I have been here several times. They have a large GF menu and even have pizza for us celiacs. The best is their Italian style baby back ribs, always moist and delicious. The Caesar salad was overdressed and yucky, so avoid the salads that may be pre-dressed. Dressing on the side maybe?? The warm bread loaf that comes to the table is appreciated by my bf, and it always looks DELicious. :( but really this place is def trying.
Cooking staff seemed clueless about cooking their gluten free pasta. My pasta was way under cooked and hard. Guess they didn't know you have to Cooke the gluten free pasta longer. Did not enjoy my meal. Would rather for to Biagi's they do gluten free right!
Very, very slow service. Many dishes were no longer available. Don't waste your time. They will do it for you!!!!!i
Went there once, ordered one of the items the menu noted could be made gluten free. Sent it back TWICE for the same reason... Pasta was on the dish. By the time I finally got my order that I'm not even sure was gluten free, my husband had completed his meal. It took an HOUR just to get my gluten free item right. It amazed me that they would label something as "gluten free" but when I ordered it, I got pasta on my plate twice and nobody seemed to understand why that was a big deal. Nope. Never going back. It's a shame too, because before I realized my gluten sensitivity, this was a favorite place to eat.
Horrible gluten-free menu, and not child-friendly at all. They only offer one gluten-free soup and they were out of it. if If you have Celiac disease or are gluten intolerant, I would strongly discourage you from going to this restaurant. 2013, and they STILL don't offer a gluten free pasta. Ridiculous.
It's ok. The gluten free menu just has you "order vegetables instead of pasta" on a few dishes. Not a long list and they didn't have two of the things I asked for anymore so it was a little out of date. Our waiter was totally on it and the flavor was good, but for the price we won't be going very often.
DO NOT GO! I made a take out order. Upon arrival there were croutons on my salad (after explicitly ordering without). I explained to them that the whole salad had to be re-made rather than just pick the croutons off. When I got home and looked at the salad, crouton crumbs were all over the place. Then I opened up my meal which was ordered off the GF menu. I couldn't tell if they just skimped out on the noodles or if they were trying to replace them all together as there were exactly 3 noodles and a ton of potatoes. So I called and spoke with a Manager and explained to her what happend. Her response - She confirmed the noodles were not gluten free and then proceeded to say, "Oh they must have made it over the bed of noodles and then realized the mistake and moved it onto the potatoes". I then explained to her that in fact you do not have a gluten-free item once that has occured. NEVER GOING BACK
No GF pasta. The server was very knowledgeable about food allergy needs. They have a separate GF menu that includes more options than the items marked GF on the regular menu. Overall great experience.
I guess it depends on the location, because I had a pretty good experience here. Our waiter was new, but he still knew about the gluten free options and separate menu. They had about six or seven dishes to choose from. They don't have gluten free pasta, so they just sub with roasted potatoes, spinach,or green beans. I can make gf pasta at home, so I didn't care. The food was super rich and delicious, just like an Italian restaurant should be!!
Our server was about the only good part of our experience. The GF menu was hardly worth noting. It was extremely limited. Food service was slow and when it finally got to our table it was sub-par. I had the jalapeno garlic fish which was an overcooked fish drowning in garlic cream sauce. I think they forgot the jalapeno part of it. In one word, BLAND.
I have been here several times and had no problems with the food. Menu is a little limited but staff is always friendly and helpful. Food is entered as an allergy item and prepared separate, but still need to stress the importance of the allergy to take precautions because even though they are very nice not all seem to be educated on celiac.
servers were very nice and helpful. Good food options, but was very disappointed in no gluten free pasta or pizza.
why is this place even listed? its a joke ! a wedge salad and a soup. this should be a last resort for anyone with gluten allergies!!!
Great experience every visit. Staff seems to go above & beyond for my food requests & alterations. Today the chef even prepared my meal extra special since it was a food I was trying for the first time.
Haven't tried Carinos yet, but wanted to say that Olive Garden has GF pasta now :)
Gluten Free is very deceiving. No gluten free pastas. The only things gluten free are some salads and chicken entrees, minus the pasta. No good if you are strict GF or vegetarian.
Have not had any success at this restaurant.
Limited menu with most items needing to be modified to make them GF. I don't really trust that but that's just me. I had the potato soup which was delicious.
Got sick after eating here from their gluten free menu. The waitress was okay but didn't know answers to any of my gf questions. When she passed on the questions to the cooks, she came back and said they didn't know. Too bad. The food looked good and my family liked their non gf food.
My family was seated in this restaurant about 3:30pm just before dinner menu. We were given the menu - after talking with the waitress the chef came out - in a very, very filthy covered apron and said he was also the manager. Most of all the lunch items were very spicy and with all of us having celiac we thought he could substitute lemon chicken or pot roast or something as it states on the menu they are willing to work with you with your gf meal. The chef WOULDNT change a thing but said he would send back the waitress to take our order. We all looked at each other and got up and left - we went right over to Don Pablos and ate a wonderful gf non spicy meal! I ate at the one in Monroeville, Pennsylvania
Good food, but gluten free menu is what you will find on regular menu and would expect to not have gluten. No GF pasta available.
It depends on the time of day you go here if you can trust it :/.. I've had the chicken Marsala and had no problems, it was amazing. When I went during a busy night the waiter brought both gluten free meals with noodles. I reiterated that we were gluten free and the noodles were gluten. The waitress had no idea what I was talking about So I had to explain it. They then rushed our meals to make them again and they tasted horrible. We refused to pay for the meals, paid for our salad and drinks and sent the food back. I have mixed emotions towards this resturaunt now.
I would not recommend eating at this restaurant if you are trying to eat Gluten Free. Long story short my waitress told me the pasta I was eating was Gluten Free when in fact they do not even serve gluten free pasta. She had no idea what she was doing, and clearly had not been trained correctly. I even asked her to double check with the manager to make sure it was gluten free. She did not. It is not worth the risk to eat at this restaurant. I have been sick for 3 days because of it.
It's nice they offer gluten free, although I wish they did spaghetti instead of macaroni style.
Horrible food. The Italian pot roast taste and looks like canned dog food.
Good food, no complaints.
watch for cross contamination uses same cook surfaces. had pasta mixed in spinach when ordered gluten free. eat at your own risk
Very limited menu and nothing with pasta.
The food is amazing. The GF options are listed on their regular menu and the staff seems to be very understanding and helpful. I have never been sick after eating one of their GF items.
I'm a frequent diner here. It's always a wonderful experience.
