The food is delicious!!!!
Line was long took 14 minutes to get up to register. Once greeted I informed employee I was celiac, she changed her gloves, but let me no corn tortillas were available only flour. I asked for chips with beans and cheese, she took a bowl and started to fill then transferred to next person who took my bowl, did not switch gloves and grabbed food with hands (cilantro and onion) with no tongs. I am extremely allergic to gluten and made it very clear up front. They remade my bowl but I knew better and should have just left rather than attempt to eat. Within ten minutes I had a horrible stomach ache after only had a few bites. I was so excited to try this place based on reviews. Very disappointing.
Had the sweet pork enchiladas with cilantro-lime rice and black beans. Delicious!! There are lots of choices, and almost everything is available GF. They are super-accommodating, and knowledgeable about cross-contamination. The woman assembling my order even changed her gloves without me asking and took some of my ingredients from a separate prep area.
I came in, ordered some enchiladas with corn tortillas and before I could even say something, the server asked if I waned them made gluten friendly and when I said yes he immediately changed his gloves. Lots of gluten free options and very knowledgeable servers
Everything is gluten free except for the flour tortillas and the desserts. The staff is very knowledgeable and they immediately change their gloves when I ask for corn tortillas. The food is great, and I really appreciate that they have a standard procedure for gluten free meals.
Eat here frequently. Almost always get nachos. May have had one slight reaction one time, but it may have been too much CocaCola. Be assertive and watch. Tell them first thing that you need GF. I did have to ask one of the servers to change gloves a second time because she dragged them over the tortillas as she was putting them on because she was short.
The employees were very accommodating! Each person changed gloves (and were already using tongs) as I went down the line. Everything is gluten free except the flour tortillas and most of the desserts. My family regularly visited this restaurant and since I'm a new diagnosed celiac I'm really excited that I can keep eating here so easily!!
NOT celiac friendly but maybe gluten-free fad friendly. It was nice that she offered to change her gloves but had no understanding of cross-contamination. After she change her gloves she picked up the flour tortillas she also wanted to use the same serving utensils that she just laid in somebody else's flour tortillas. That is just not gluten free! Even the smallest amount of gluten is too much for someone with celiacs. I asked her why even bother changing her gloves if you're going to turn around and touch flower products with either your hands or utensils. She had no answer. She was nice but under trained.
Gluten free Mexican options, including enchiladas, naked burritos, etc.
This is a casual restaurant whose staff has a good grasp of gluten-free requirements. Tell them you require gluten-free because of allergy and they change gloves and use corn tortillas. Most menu items are gluten-free. Food quality is good. I recommend this as a safe place for celiacs.
I just ate here and had a great experience. The staff ( manager) immediately washed his hands and changed his gloves when I asked for a gluten free meal specifying I have a true allergy. He followed the food down the line personally ( I asked him to!). The result? Great food, no gluten reaction and a pleasant stay in Cedar City! Thanks Costa Vida! You guys are my go-to tasty eat out restaurant at home and away.
I came here shortly after my celiac diagnosis and didn't really understand cross contamination. I got so sick and was very disappointed because I thought I had done everything right. Then I realized that even though all their filling ingredients were gluten free, they all come into contact with the flour tortillas, essentially making them full of gluten and affecting someone like me. I wouldn't recommend going here unless you can convince them to make your food with fresh ingredients that haven't been contaminated.
Great service. If I tell them I am gluten free then they will change their gloves. Only thing I didn't like is everybody reaches in the same bin for chips. So I don't suggest getting nachos but everything else is ok. When I ordered enchiladas they warmed them up on new pieces of foil so they wouldn't get cross contaminated. I will eat here again!
The staff is trained well with gluten free food handling. I rated it lower because the food was much spicier than many Mexican food places I've eaten at. It caused other gut issues and isn't worth going back. A bust for me but could be a great option for others
love it! everything except the boritos and the desserts are GF. owners wife is Celiac. they are very knowledgeable and change their gloves etc.
I have been recently diagnosed with celiac, and have had only bad experiences eating out until I tried Costa Vida. They are very careful to not cross contaminate your food and are very good to work with. I called before hand and asked the manager a bunch of questions, and he relieved all of the fears I had with eating there. They cook all of their corn tortillas first thing in the morning right after the griddle is cleaned. I did not have any reaction to the food I eat. I totally recommend it to anyone who is celiac or gluten free.
Plenty of GF choices including tortilla strips. Few options if you are GF an DF though. I enjoyed a salad with shrimp and mango salsa. They did not change gloves up the line so if you are very sensitive, make sure anyone handling your bowl has new gloves.
