i had the chicken taco. ordered 2 but it was a lot more food than I was expecting. Generous portions. Next time I am in the west valley i will try something else there.
They are great with taking care of gluten free people. Try the nachos.
We've been eating here since just after they opened and have had nothing but wonderful experiences. As soon as we say "gluten free" whoever is helping us immediately changes gloves and completes the entire order. Now we usually don't have to ask since they recognize us. Add the delicious food and generous servings to the helpful service, and we've never been disappointed.
I have been to this location a few times and am always impressed at how knowledgeable the staff is about GF and cross contamination. There was one time we went in and a newer worker forgot and tried to put lettuce on my salad with tongs that she used to flip the tortillas. She was quickly stopped by the manager. I was impressed that I didn't have to speak and say something and that the situation was handled. I have never gotten sick from this location.
I was impressed at how great they are at instantly washing hands and putting on new gloves when I mentioned gluten free. I also loved all the gluten free options. The problem comes with the high amount of cross-contamination going on throughout the day while making non-gluten free items. With gloved hands they grab a flour tortilla placing it in the foil container. They serve up the selection of beans and meat with utensils which touch the tortilla as they spread the beans and meat around. The utensils are then placed back into the beans and meat containers contaminating them. Then, their gloved hands, which previously were used to get a flour tortilla, serve up the remaining selection of toppings. This is all in the same beans, meat, and toppings used for gluten free customers. It's difficult to keep things gluten free with such a high amount of cross-contamination going on all day. I have tried several times to eat there with my family and have gotten sick the majority of times we have eaten there. Not a good experience for me. Should have a separate area or containers to serve gluten free customers from in order to have their food truly gluten free.
I had a hard time communicating with the staff who was putting together the food, it was tough to find out which ingredients weren't gluten free.
Employee changes gloves when I mentioned GF. It was pretty good.
They have a cross continuation issue as they use the same press for the tortillas and on the line they switch the serving spoons but the fact beans, and meats etc still have issues since the other spoon had touch the flour tortillas the and been put back in the food. Everyone I tried eating here I got sick and now I pass on going there. Their corporate office is more interested in justifying then learning why they are not gluten free for those celiac who are sensitive. Eat at your own risk.
I've been here a number of times with varying results, they have gluten free options but as other reviewers have said its a cross contamination nightmare. I've eaten there and had no reaction but after the third reaction to the food I have decided its just not worth trying(I kept going back because the good is great, but not 100% gluten free)
This is by far the best gluten free restaurant, very confident about the food, everything seems prepared fresh, the habanero salsa (extra cost) is very good and the employees seem to be trained to deal with gluten intolerant customers, not totally sure of the celiac thing, but for a guy like me that seems to be just intolerant, Costa Vida is my favorite !!
They ahead change their gloves and wash their hands and are careful to tell others down the line. I've never been sick.here! Love it
I love costa vida!!! Every one that works there know about gluten allergies. The food is so good! Everything is gluten free except for their flour tortillas. Their corn tortillas are so good!
I just had raspberry chipotle chicken tacos. The original person taking my order didn't ask if I was gluten free, but I ordered them on corn tortillas. The second person helping asked if I was gluten free and actually re-made them with cheese from the other side of the counter. I loved that. It was my first time there and I wasn't aware they had a second station for gluten free folks to avoid cross contamination. Good info to know!!! Thanks for an awesome meal!!!
Good GF selection but food was not very good. I am not sure I would come back.

Fortunately I'm not sensitive to cross contamination. I love costa Vida and I love their efforts to be GF. I can eat there with no problems unless I get beans which I can't tolerate. Love the food and love that its GF! Staff always change gloves and wash their hands.
THIS location is amazing. My husband is very sensitive, and can only eat at this location. They have a SEPARATE PRESS for their corn tortillas. ONE person walks your order through, so no one else touches it. He's never gotten sick at this location. You still have some consistency issues with how hot the sauces are, but they're still tasty. This location is safe. I've had two very sensitive celiacs eat here, and they have never gotten sick here. GREAT location.
THIS location always makes my husband sick from gluten contamination. He loves Costa Vida, but each location is so different from the others that we cannot trust them often. When we find a good place, we stick with it. When my husband gets sick three times from the same place, it's on the banned list. THIS LOCATION is on the banned list for us because he gets sick every time we eat there. Otherwise, Costa Vida has amazing options, usually very knowledgeable staff, and wonderful gf practices - they take off their gloves, wash their hands, and only one person touches your food the whole time. He gets chicken enchiladas; I get nachos with sweet pork. It's wonderful.

So super impressed with Costa Vida! As soon as we told them we needed gluten free, the employee changed his gloves and he was the only person to handle the food prep (it is usually passed down the line). Love that nearly everything is GF there. It's our new go-to!
They are very careful and make sure everyone knows your meal is Gf. I love all the options and I go almost once a week! One day I went in and asked for an enchilada but they were out of corn tortillas. So then I asked for soup instead and they were also out. It was kind of annoying for a minute but then they made me a salad and didn't charge me!! I was pretty happy about that :)
They best fast Mexican food joint around! Fantastic raspberry chipotle sauce and all meats are wonderfully marinated and yummy. It's super fresh, delicious and a great value. The employees are very friendly and remember regulars. We eat here with our family weekly. You won't be disappointed!!
Although the food here tastes excellent, I have doubts about the claim of gluten free. They claim GIG training, but no one I saw behind the counter seemed to know what that means. Corn tortillas are made on the same griddle as flour, without cleaning the surface first. Watched the cook go from cooking flour to corn tortillas on the same griddle without wiping down the surface, changing gloves, or cooking utensils. She then used a spatula that was kept in a pile of wheat flour and coated with the stuff to turn the corn tortillas. When I got my "gluten free" meal, that I had specifically asked for off the "gluten free" menu, it had a wheat flour tortilla on the bottom of it. I understand the limits of the "gluten free" claim in any restaurant. There is a high risk of cross-contamination anywhere you go. But to say you're GIG trained, and then have this degree of ignorance, is a stretch of the imagination.
Everything here is gluten free, including the sauces. The only item that has gluten are the flour or wheat tortilla shells. They have tortilla shells made with corn, that are gluten free. If you ask for gluten free shells or say you have an allergy everyone in the line goes and washes their hands and then put on new gloves. The food is amazing too!

This was my first time eating at a restaurant, needing gluten free, and they were so accommodating! They went out of their way to explain their procedures and tell me they have a lot of gluten free customers, so I wouldn't be so nervous. Food was great as well!!
The 1st time I ate here, after seeing thru this app they were "gluten trained", I was impressed. I told the girl I had a gluten allergy and she immediately changed her gloves and didn't touch anything else till she was done with my food. However, the 2nd and 3rd time, very different stories. The 2nd time I went there were no customers in front of me so when I told her I had a gluten allergy and she just kinda looked at me and said "uh-huh" without changing her gloves I thought ok well maybe she had just put them on and hadn't touched any flour tortillas yet, so I ordered the nachos after confirming with her there was no chance of cross contamination in the chips, she assured me, carelessly, there wasn't. Well my 3rd visit I let the woman know I had a gluten allergy, she just looked at me. Since I had just seen her touching the flour tortillas I asked her to please change her gloves. She did, but looked slightly annoyed about it. I was just about to order the nachos when I saw the other woman behind the counter flipping the flour tortillas and then use her hands, with the same gloves, to go over and scoop chips out into a container and put the rest from her hands back into the drawer. I then decided to stick with a corn tortilla fish taco. As I was standing there I saw as these employees repeatedly used their hands, not the tongs, to grab cheese, lettuce, etc. I was very disappointed! I had been so excited about a place that had "oceans of gluten free choices", the food may be naturally gluten free, but the cross contamination is certainly there!! I hope management/owners read these reviews and will properly train ALL of their employees and become a safe place for GF customers.

I went to this restaurant in hopes of finding a new gf place to eat. I was violently ill before I even left the restaurant. Their sauces and toppings are all gf, but they scoop them out of them same containers that they do when someone orders a flour tortilla. So when someone orders a burrito they scoop out the stuff, spread it around the tortilla, and then put the now contaminated spoon back in the container. They also use the same hot plate for ALL the tortillas. Not a separate one. They also told me they use the same tortilla press for their corn tortillas as they do their flour. They said they make the corn first, but if they're using the same press, then how can they guarantee the corn tortillas are still gf? Anyways, I got sick and won't be going back.
Just mention Gluten and the gloves come off and employees wash hands put new gloves on! Awesome! Only 4 items have Gluten. The three desserts and the wheat tortillas.
Love this place! We eat here a few times a month. Staff is friendly and will change gloves and wash hands if you tell them you eat gluten free. I highly recommend giving them a try!
They say they are gluten free but do not follow cross contamination procedures. They make the corn tortillas on the flour that is everywhere. They don't clean the grill if you order gf quesadilla. They will not change gloves or wipe down anything if you don't tell them. Once they even put a wrong ingredient in someone's flour tortilla and then dumped the rice right back in not caring that I was gluten free and told them. They said it wasn't their problem. Pretty much problem after problem and yes I have gotten sick after ordering their "gluten free" food.
Cross contamination nightmare. If you have celiac disease, stay away! Staff was argumentative with me, telling me that everything was gluten free. While the ingredients may be, the practices they use make that a moot point. The flour and corn tortillas were made on the same press. I saw a worker take a wet towel and wipe it once to "clean" it before putting corn tortillas on. I e-mailed corporate to let them know my experience and they responded with a rude e-mail.

Lots of gluten free options with corn tortillas. Their staff is amazing they know exactly what it is when you say gluten free, they have a designated person that handles your food from start to finish. They have even changed out some of the toppings when they were worried about contamination. Absolutely amazing I eat here often an have never had a problem.
I love eating at costa vida. They always do their best to provide gluten free meals.
We were very excited about Costa Vida especially after we went the first time. They changed their gloves. They had one specific person touch our food the whole time. It was great until we went for our third time and we noticed that they put the gluten free corn tortillas on the same cooker as where they cooked the flour tortillas. Cross-contamination central. Unfortunate too because they made such an effort to become gluten free.
This company is not safe!!! They make their wheat tortillas in the same press that they use to make their "gluten free" corn tortillas. Cross contamination is a huge issue with all of their restaurants and the employees have not been trained in gluten free production practices. I do not know a celiac who has not gotten sick at Costa Vida.

They have lots of GF ingredients and are pretty knowledgeable about their ingredients. They are improving, but still have lots of cross-contamination with the utensils and grill. LOVE the food, though!!!!
Really know how to take care of someone with celiac. Wonderful food.
