This place had raving reviews so myself and my family decided to try it out. This place we were not fans of. Our server did not fully understand gluten intolerance and the food left myself and my family sick throughout the night. We were very disappointed here after reading all of the reviews. Our fries were cold, my burger was dry, the bun was dry and flaked apart, and they got my order wrong.

We’ve been here before but it’s been a few years. They have a dedicated frier for gluten free guests and they also have gluten free buns for sandwiches. I had the sweet potato fries with a club sandwich. It was fantastic. They also have some alcohol that is are, such as Deep Eddy vodka, if that’s your thing. Service was great and zero negative reaction. I’m so glad they can still accommodate.

I have been here 4 times and they know what they are doing with gluten free. They have a seperate fryer for fries and I have gotten both the regular and sweet potato and they are excellent. This time I ordered the sautéed shrimp and they were delicious. I also love their cider beer selection. The atmosphere is also enjoyable. Highly recommend!

I appreciated that they had a separate and comprehensive menu for a variety of dietary needs, including celiac disease. Staff were aware and able to explain the kitchen protocols for handling allergies and GF plates, though there is a disclaimer on the menu that they can’t guarantee cross contamination. Based on that, and the overall quality of the food (typical pub fare, as expected), I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to eat a meal here.

Eat here all the time. Busy or not. No issues. Some of the menu items rotate esp the apps. They usually have different options for that.

They have a allergy menu for a host of issues and are always knowledgeable on the food prep. They have Stone Delicious in the van as well as other ciders if you want a drink.

Highly recommend. There is always a danger when eating out, but they take it seriously.

I am a local, have celiac and have been coming to Crystal’s for years, this is my favorite place to eat in Savannah. I am writing this in response to the 1 star review so sadly placed my someone not knowledgeable about this local treasure. If you have celiac this is a safe place to eat with a warm staff and amazing atmosphere. Best shrimp and grits in the area.

This is a review from Google. I am copy and pasting for other people with celiac disease that are considering going here as it is highly rated.

As someone that has highly symptomatic celiac disease, I’ve been happy to come here multiple times because I know they take great precautions with allergies. However, after tonight I will not be returning, this was literally the dining experience from hell. I had had my server, Daniel, before, and last time he didn’t take my allergy seriously and I had to get a manager. So this time, I preemptively talked to someone that wouldn’t bring me a manager when I asked, but rather said she would take care of it. She returned telling me she told the kitchen manager and the cook, and not to worry, I was in good hands. However, when my order came, there was a non-gluten free bun on it, and it was obvious my complaint was not listened to. I told Daniel, to which he laughed and said he’d get the buns swapped out, at this point I really didn’t want to chance it as a burger is really not worth being sick for 2+ weeks. I talked to someone and told them I no longer wanted the order, once I did, two women came out, the one I talked to before and a manager of some sort. The manager did apologize, and gave me a gift card for next time, the other lady sat herself at my table and continuously was grabbing my hand and shoulder and such (which I did not appreciate) telling me that it would be okay and to not worry. I, admittedly, hate conflict and do not like when things like this happen as it overwhelms me extremely, so I did start crying because that’s my response to stressful situations where I’m getting bombarded. Everyone left, and it was fine for awhile, until Daniel returned to explain that he “didn’t mean to kill me” and that “honest mistakes happen”, however, this is a repeat “mistake” for him as it’s happened to me before, and, there’s a difference between an honest mistake and a complete error to recognize your customers needs. After this, I decided I wanted whoever the ladies I talked to were to know that I really did not appreciate his tone, or the jokes at my expense, and that it may be funny to him but now I am legitimately out of a meal because things close early in Savannah. Once again, I am crying due to stress, when the lady from before sits herself next to me and starts petting me on the shoulder and hand once again, telling me that the reason he said that was because we were on “two different wavelengths” and that he wasn’t emotional and I was a deeply emotional person. I was told next time I come back to simply not request him by the lady I didn’t know in my face telling me I was being emotional.

As someone that does have a dietary restriction, I really try to take extra care into how I speak to people about my allergy because they have to go the extra mile to modify things for me. However, when you rave about your great allergy prep and then pull unprofessional shit like this to the point where I had to leave the restaurant crying because it was too overwhelming, you’ve failed as an establishment. Everything about tonight was unprofessional, and really disgusting, I have never been treated like this EVER, and do not plan on coming back.

It really sucks, because the food has been great other times i’ve been, but it’s not worth it if I have to play waiter roulette every night to see whether I’ll get sick or not.

Disappointed and ultimately, very sad.

So many positive reviews, but this was a bad experience. I ordered three items off the “celiac menu” including a salad without croutons, French fries, and grits. The waiter appeared knowledgable and assured me all items were “dedicated gluten free.” However, my salad arrived with fragments of croutons in it (someone had picked them out) and both of the sides tested positive for gluten with my Nima sensor. I ate some of the salad before I saw the crouton fragments and am sick today. Avoid!

Cannot say enough good things about this place!! The food was delicious! The service was exceptional! The atmosphere was awesome! I’ve never been to a beer/burger/sandwich-style restaurant that was as well-equipped to respond to all food allergens, even celiac disease, as the Crystal Beer Parlor. They’ve got a bunch of dedicated fryers in the kitchen, and the staff is well-educated, not only on the allergens on their menu, but also on how to prevent cross-contamination. I don’t think I’ve ever felt safer in a restaurant that wasn’t completely GF, such as a Bibibop. Their burgers – with GF bun, of course – are delicious. I also recommend the Sweet Potato Waffle Fries.

This place was GREAT! I had a shrimp salad sandwich (think chicken salad but with shrimp) on a gf bun. Our server was very knowledgeable and their "gf menu" said "Celiac menu"!! They have a dedicated fryer for the fries too. I highly recommend. The atmosphere was enjoyable as well 😀

The food was very tasty here! There were a lot of people there, but our food came out super fast. The waitress was knowledgeable about what was safe for celiacs to eat. What a great restaurant with attentive staff! I have Celiac and I’m lactose intolerant and intolerant to all forms of peppers. My son is allergic to dairy, eggs and all nuts. They made sure we got what we wanted, and we were all safe from being sick. And the burgers were AMAZING!! Highly recommend visiting! We ate here twice on vacation, with two different experiences. Despite one being challenging and risky, we will inevitably return on future trips to Savannah. The first, we came on Sunday evening. We waited about 20 minutes for a table and were seated in the outdoor area. We all ordered gluten free burgers and variations of fries. The server was knowledgeable, confirmed protocols to fry the burgers in a pan instead of a grill, etc. She returned soon after we ordered to tell us they were out of gluten free buns. I think we ended up still paying the surcharge, though I am happy to do so if it ensured the protocol!! We all ate happily and safely. It's a little expensive for a burger patty and fries (almost $20 with the gf bun charge) but worth it for the peace of mind. On our second trip, we were with a larger group and waited closer to an hour for a table on a Tuesday night. We ended up sitting inside at two tables across from each other. My DD with sensitive/symptomatic Celiac disease was at the other table. She is 17 and very comfortable asking questions, confirming protocol, clearly articulating her needs, etc. She and my younger DD ordered burgers with the gluten free bun, as did I at the other table. My DD had taken a bite of the fries and while talking took a bit of the burger - then noticed grill marks. She flagged the server, asked if it had been prepared gluten free as requested and then went to the bathroom to wash her hands - all before I was even aware of the situation. The server came over to explain to me while she was away from the table that she had just said "gluten free bun" to him......which I know is wholly untrue and would be uncharacteristically negligent of my daughter. In the end, she was not glutened, all of our burgers were replaced and taken off the bill. We were on watch for a day or two but it panned out fine. Please note that the issue was entirely due to the server vs. the restaurant. Like I said, we will comfortably return in the future.

Fantastic food!! Definitely GF and none of my family had any adverse reactions. Based on the name, I expected to just get a burger, but they had an extensive GF menu, even fries, sweet potato fries and chips all cooked in a dedicated fryer!! Highly recommend the Blackened Shrimp! We tried to return for a second night but got there too late and they weren’t taking names for tables.

I had to go back and edit my review after returning to Crystal Beer Palace a few years later. The current gf menu is now extensive, they have gf buns and bread for a small up charge, and the fryer is safe. They have taken the full menu and broken it down for gf as well as other common allergies making it clear and easy to understand what is safe. All the servers are attentive to gf needs, and a very large part of the menu is now accessible to me. We love the food and friendly service, so it is a regular dining option for us.

The kids were happy to get GF fries! The kids burgers were great. They were out of GF buns and the food took a really long time but we were just happy to have a celiac menu. I have never seen this in a non dedicated GF restaurant before so we were excited not to have to worry about it.

Good experience and good food! Dedicated fryer and helpful staff. They brought me an allergy menu when I asked about GF options.

Got the blackened shrimp (huge portion - like, huge!) and French fries and collard greens. So good.

My only flag is the collard greens - they just say collard greens on the menu but they come with bacon in them and I think red peppers too. At first glance I thought the bacon were loose pieces of fried breading and got really worried about cross contamination, but non GF partner tried and confirmed bacon (he ordered the collard greens too, his had the same small fried pieces in them). I didn’t eat them anyways but the rest was really good.

Really popular spot - just expect to be waiting for up to an hour if you’re going on a weekend for dinner.

My mom, daughter and I are gluten free. We are not celiac but have a gluten allergy. My mom and I got the salmon BLT on a good GF bun that was wonderful! My daughter got the blue cheese chips which she said were delicious. Server was knowledgeable and seemed to be able to answer all the questions we had

Great GF accommodations. Celiac menu. Great GF French Fries, crab dip with GF chips, lots of GF entrees (Shrimp, Flounder, Chicken, etc). They service was very GF serious. Nice place.
