I was told the last time I was here that they had a dedicated fryer but today found out they use the same fryer for the seafood coated with GF flour and regular flour. So disappointed. I felt like our server did not go out of her way to accommodate me. Unfortunate.
This place is not celiac friendly. Our shrimp dish arrived at the table with French bread on it so we had to send it back. After telling the server that I have celiac.
I have Celiac and almost geared up when they said all their seafood is GF fried or broiled. Haven't had a good fried seafood platter in years. This place is great!!!!
The choices were so limited I literally cried.
My wife and I ate at Deanie's tonight. They have a gf menu on their website and the waiter was knowledgeable about how food was prepared and what was gf. The BBQ shrimp was amazing! Order it with rice instead of bread to soak up all that amazing sauce. Go early if you don't want to wait an hour. But well worth the wait.
Bartender was super confused about what was gf. He thought corn flour wasn't gf. Apparently most seafood is gf, but not the crab claws for an appetizer? Couldn't really get to the bottom of what was safe. I did have a reaction so I won't go back. For safe gf fried seafood go to Cassamento's.
All fried seafood is GF! Fried shrimp was fantastic! My daughter has celiac and she ate fried shrimp and fries without and problems. Staff were very knowledgable. Highly recommend!
Food was delicious and in huge portions. Their batter for catfish, shrimp and clams is gluten-free. The fried catfish was yummy. I hadn't been able to have good fried fish in over 8 years.
When to Deanie's for dinner upon arriving in New Orleans because it was recommended by the staff at our timeshare. I was skeptical because we had called ahead to make sure they had gluten free options and the person who answered the phone only said that any fried fish could be broiled instead. However, we were tired and hungry so we went. The waitress we had was very helpful and kept running back to the kitchen to talk to the chef. He informed us that all the fried foods were gluten free or he could broil anything for me. I decided to be adventurous and order the fried shrimp since I hadn't had it since I found out I had a gluten sensitivity. It was absolutely delicious. Also, we started with an appetizer of Nachos, made with Kettle potatoes chips rather than Nachos covered in crab meat and a melted blend of 5 cheeses. That was to die for!...and it was gluten free! I had no bad reaction to anything I ate. The restaurant is not fancy, kind of a 1950 diner type, but everything was very good. If you are concerned, have the blackened red fish. It, too was delicious. We tried to go back on Friday night, but there was an hour and a half wait to get it.
Checked out the gluten free menu online before I went- they do not have one in the restaurant. While the server was not familiar with gluten she was really sweet and knew I could have any of the fish broiled and boiled. They brought out boiled potatoes to the table instead of bread. I had the crawfish and shrimp boiled, and then the broiled red fish. All was delicious. Service was great. Saw the salads on the table next to me and they looked delicious!
The staff had no idea about the gluten free menu. They stared at me and smiled at me like a was insane when I asked about it. The service was awful, and then they brought my food out with bread on the plate! The food was not even that good.. If I could give it a zero I would. Very disappointing!!
No GF menu and waitress seemed to have no knowledge about possible options. I talked her through possibilities for my 6 year old. She checked with kitchen staff and confirmed they could accommodate (settled on chicken and rice). Even though it was a little concerning and took some effort- she was nice and my daughter didn't have a reaction.
I looked on Deanie's website and not only did it say that they had a gluten-free menu, but it had a tab for it and showed a separate menu. I went there and asked for the gluten-free menu and was told that they didn't' have one but their waiters are trained and could accommodate me. I felt tricked - if they don't have a separate menu they shouldn't pretend they do on their website. I won't trust a place that does that and I walked out.
They don't have a gluten free menu but the manager will work with you to figure out what options you can have. The food is pretty decent
While there is not a GF menu per se, the wait staff was very knowledgeable and attentive, even on a VERY busy Saturday night.
