We used to get our kids birthday cakes there every single year, until about 5 yrs ago when we were all diagnosed with gluten intolerance. I tried their GF cakes -custom ordered and they were ok for a few years. The last 2 rounds of GF cakes I have ordered have been awful. I complained on one of them because the cake was simply inedible. It was so crumbly- like they forgot the eggs? I even drove it back to them so they could try it themselves. The poor girl was like, “no, that’s just not right”. They were kind enough to provide a refund. Just got my last GF cake for our family. It literally is like eating sawdust covered in frosting. There are a great bakery but not for GF. Sad I won’t be back. I’m not calling again to complain, have to drive it back etc. It’s a drive to get there, expensive....and I can easily make a much better homemade GF cake that’s enjoyable on my own. Family tradition is now over after 25 years. ☹Sad.
Very limited options. All frozen. Need fresh gf bakery goods.
Yes
All their ‘freshly baked goods’ are frozen and made by another company.
I’m glad they have a dedicated gluten-free bakery but it’s a shame the cakes are dense and the frosting is unbelievably thick/hard/sweet.
Yes
Just not much variety and very high prices so many other options out there sweet Ali’s or sweet Natalie‘s for a bakery is definitely the way to go!!!! Staff is not very friendly either so it’s unfortunate used to shop there all the time before we were gluten-free and now just realized how rude they are.
I've been many times over the years. Good frozen gf lemon cookies or mini cupcakes. But nothing special. The "bakery" is a misnomer for gf shoppers because all the gf items are made off site and then frozen. They do make pre-ordered cakes which are good. You can buy their frozen items almost anywhere now. Don't make a special trip to this "bakery".
All gf items are baked in a dedicated facility. The cupcakes are very tasty but not as rich as I expected. Prices are competitive.
Yes
If you need a speciality cake for a GF birthday party (or any special occasion) this is your place. Amazing! Prices are high but well worth it for a speciality cake!
This place is awful I have very few items to choose from you might as will go to whole foods Trader Joe's or any other store. Expensive and only frozen items to buy and when I went there the staff was very unfriendly and rude I used to use Deerfield all the time for our regular bakery items I won't even go there for that they have gotten so overpriced it's ridiculous avoid at all cost a birthday cake for $45 for a kid that's insane that's not even gluten-free
No
only frozen items ,Udi's bread and desserts are much better at whole foods customer service was not very friendly. also ridiculously priced not even close two beingv gluten friendly the taste is terrible yuck and way too pricey
I was so excited about this place when I first learned of it. Oh well. Prices are ridiculous! Size of potions are generally skimpy. Last I checked, Whole Foods was selling a number of their items plus even more (and IMO better) options like Udi, Against the Grain, and more. Plus my experience with Whole Foods cust. service at their Schaumburg location has been better than my experiences at Deerfield's. Ok for wheat/gluten eaters but kinda disappointing for those who are GF.
