This place is delicious!! They have GF clam chowder and let me just tell you- amazing! I am a seafood loving girl and I have not been able to eat clam chowder in forever and it was good! Staff in knowledgeable and even went out of her way to look something up with the manufacturer! Would most definitely visit again! ( if I wasent from VA)
pathetic food and service. go up the road to castaways for better service, food, and gluten understanding.
Server was very accommodating and knowledgeable, even asking chef to confirm that both french fries contained gluten. Clam chowder is wonderful...disregard Google reviews...photo on this site is accurate! GF fish and chips were a little disappointing due to very light batter...pan fried. Multigrain GF bread with chowder was very tasty...brand is Franz.
Waitress was super knowledgable, accommodating, and informed about gluten free needs. Even went as far to say that tarter sauce had 2% questionable ingredients so they don't recommend eating it if gluten free. The clam chowder was super good!! Thinner than most but I actually enjoyed that more. The seafood combo plate I ordered was made in a dedicated gluten free pan per the waitress. Seafood was good, light breading was ok, and veggies were subpar. 4 stars due to clam chowder and great waitress. Next time, I would just get a bowl of clam chowder and a salad with their gluten free dressing.
My family has always gone to Dooger's and I was so grateful when I found out they had so many gluten free options. Their chowder is super good and GF. I've never gotten sick from there. Their staff is very good about cross contamination. I definitely recommend going there.
We ate at Dooger's yesterday. The Clam Chowder is great!!! The waiter said, "It's been gluten free for 34 years and people have just recently started asking if it was GF." I also had the Fish and Chips with steamed veggies instead of fries because the fryer isn't a dedicated fryer. See photos. They also have a restaurant in Warrenton, OR, which is near Astoria.
We took a trip to Astoria and was pleasantly surprised to find this place. I am gluten free and dairy free and they were accommodating and aware of cross contamination. I had salmon pan fried in olive oil with sweet potato fries. It wasn't fancy but tasted very good.
Stopped for lunch - had soup & salad. The clam chowder was yummy & the pieces of clam tender (not the rubbery bits you sometimes get). Waitress knowledgeable about gf & eager to describe how they make their gf fish & chips & how the chowder is gf. I would definitely eat here again.
They were able to do pretty much anything gluten and dairy free. I had breaded Calamari w/ a baked potato and my friend had a grilled white fish with a side of steamed veggies. We are both GF. I loved my meal! My friend said hers was only so-so (I'm guessing because the steam veggies were previously frozen). I will definitely stop there again on my next trip to Seaside~
Gluten Free Clam Chowder!!!! They have the best clam chowder I have ever had... it looks a little more runny than normal but the taste makes up for it! They also have there own gf breading so you are not limited to a tiny menu like other places! I would def recommend this place
The staff knows their GF and very nice about it and I didn't get sick!. The dining experience feels rushed, they have wait staff running all over and they get the food out really fast. My fish was bland and my husband crab (Cajun style) was crazy over salted. My husband said the clam chowder was amazing!! For a $60 dinner I was a little disappointed!
My daughter has Celiac and we have been coming to Doogers for years. We were excited on our most recent visit to find that now she can get her fish breaded in rice flour instead of just sauteed like in the past. Doogers has always used clean and seperate pans to cook her food, and while she knows there is always the possibility of contamination, she has not had any reactions. Doogers may not be truly gourmet; but is usually consistent and good. Our favorite is the clam chowder which is gf. Its creamy, buttery, thin and focuses on the clams as the main event. The minute we arrive in town she asks to go to Doogers!
Server kept bringing Gluten items on the Gluten-free plates. Need more education on the Gluten-free lifestyle. Had to explain not to place bread or crackers on the plate. Will definitely be trying out the other restaurants in the area before coming back here.
