Efrain's Mexican Restaurant

I’m really sorry to give a negative review because it is a sweet little local place but this was not good. Almost everything on the menu is fried in the same oil, gluten is everywhere, and the food just wasn’t good. An extended family member picked this restaurant. She is gluten free and vegan (with dairy allergy) and had good things to say about it but her food came out with cheese on top and had to be remade. I had to choose what to eat very carefully and was not comfortable at all.

I thought the negative reviews were exaggerating. They weren’t.

Only guacamole, beans and rice sides, and soup are gluten free. Everything else either has gluten in it or shares a grill or fryer with a TON of gluten. Not only no guarantees, but it was an effort to get waiter to agree to ask kitchen staff to wipe down surfaces. Had minor reaction so not sure if that ever happened. No flavor in food at all. Salsa is canned tomato sauce. Shredded beef while moist and tender, literally tastes like nothing. Normally, their refried beans are at least flavorful, but now they taste bland too. No reason to ever come back. I suppose if you are white and never had good Mexican food, you might like it. Honestly havent found any good Mexican food in Boulder area.
