Went here yesterday for lunch and the staff was quite nice. They use Udi's bread at no additional charge which is nice! I was not told that the mayo or mustard was not GF as the other reviewer stated (nor have I come across a mayo or mustard that was not GF) so I had a nice moist sandwich with no consequences after! The tomato basil soup was also yummy. Prices are fair- I will be back for lunch again!
Although I was fine they informed me that the mayo and mustard were not gluten free and still asked me if I wanted it in my sandwich. I declined and had a dry sandwich.
So yummy. They must have learned from past mistakes because Contrary to another review they did ask if it was a preference or an allergy.
The sandwich was so good. Being a GF family going out for a sandwich has never happened. I had pastrami, my Husband had roast beef and my son had turkey. For our 1 year old we got the vegetable soup. We also tried a green salad and potato salad and the gluten free chocolate chip cookies. The bread looked like the large Udi's bread and like I said the sandwich was great. The sides were just ok and the cookies were hard but my 4 year old didn't complain. I would totally go back!!
I love this sandwich shop! Fresh ingredients. Yummy sandwiches. I usually get the GF Turkey Walnut Pesto Sandwich. They are great about protecting against cross contamination, using a dedicated cutting board, knife and utensils. Although I haven't tried them, they also have several soups that are gluten free.
Staff was very helpful. Tried the hot chicken pest sandwich on gluten free bread and the tomato bisque. Both were delicious.
I ate here twice this weekend while in town for a soccer tournament nearby. The other Erik's I've visited used to ask if my request for gf bread was due to an allergy or a preference at which point they would change gloves. This location didn't ask so left me feeling less confident about cross contamination. So far I haven't gotten sick and the sandwiches were tasty. Once again, keeping my fingers crossed.
If you're gluten free this is the place to be! All sandwiches on the menu can be made gluten free (if you have Celiac they even have a separate work station and change gloves) and there are also several other delicious options. Taste is not sacrificed and the food is absolutely amazing as well as the customer service. If I lived in the area this would be my regular for sure, love the place.
the staff were really friendly and very gracefully handled our group of seven hungry runners fresh from ragnar relay. I love the pickle mascot and was given a pin with the pickle mascot. also, the pickles are excellent. my friend who needed the gluten free meal enjoyed her sandwich and soup. Will keep this place in mind for next year's ragnar. please open locations in los Angeles
This establishment is awesome! Very clean and gluten free friendly. The sandwich was delicious and generous. I will definitely eat here again.
Just a great sandwich place. Gluten free bread is really good and holds up well while you eat your sandwich. Gluten free cookies at check out and the workers knew which soups were gluten free. We went two nights in a row! There is a tiny risk of contamination, I think, if they make your sandwich where they make all the regular sandwiches. Worth asking about.
Very good bread and sandwich. Clean environment. And lots of GF options.
Delicious sandwiches and pickles. No extra charge for gluten free bread. Lots of healthy and fresh options. Prices not bad either I got a sandwich, pickle and water for $8 and change. LOVE IT!
All sandwiches can be made on GF bread. Most soups GF and they have GF cookies aaa well. Took >20 min for our order during a busy Saturday lunch rush but it was worth it. I think the manager prepared our order so it would be safe. Outdoor seating available so we could bring our dog.
I'm a very sensitive celiac and I think this location really understands! It took a few extra minutes because of wipe downs, getting the gluten free knife and getting the gf cutting board from the back. I stop here frequently when I visit my parents, and will continue to. The sandwiches are good!
Erik's deli is a nice place to eat and they do try to accommodate people with gluten sensitivities, however on their web page there is a statement about the gluten free bread and it is made from wheat. So I contacted the people about that and they did in fact confirm the gluten free bread contains wheat and being a celiac I was rather saddened, however their salads are good as an alternative.
Finally, a true, delicious, GIANT deli sandwich on gluten free bread. Not that silly tiny Udi's stuff. I'm in love with this place. If you miss sandwiches, run here.
All sandwiches can be made GF for no extra charge (nice). And the portions were great, and had procedures for avoiding cross contact. Would certainly eat there again.
Great sandwiches! They change their gloves when making GF sandwiches. They also have GF soups. Very accommodating!
I've eaten here several times and never had a reaction. It's a deli sandwich on Udi's. You can get excited about that or not. I noticed one review didn't like the mayo, I always request "light on the goo" and getting over-mayoed has never been a problem for me. (Erik's uses a mustard/mayo combo they call goo) I have never tried the gf soups.
This is definitely a place for people on a gluten free diet. I do not recommend it if you are a celiac. My boyfriend got glutened here. We are pretty sure from cross contamination.
They don't charge to change a sandwich to gluten free. My daughter says best sandwich ever! Friendly service, good food, clean and fun place to get lunch. They were quick to get our food out to us and everything was as ordered.
I had a veggie sandwich on gf bread. It was ok... Bread was pretty bland and crumbly but that is pretty standard for gf bread. It was smothered in mayo which was not awesome. Tomato bisque was good but was sitting out, risking cross contamination. I also didn't watch the preparation of the sandwich. Wish I had bc I didn't feel great afterwords but that may have been the heavy cream in the soup rather than cross contamination. Overall it was great to have options, but execution was poor.
Staff was able to quickly print off a list of all of their gf ingredients from their cash register for me to look at (didn't include beverages, but I looked up the Nantucket Nectars brand they carry and it is gf). The Udi's multigrain bread they use is fresh, soft, and larger than the Udi's bread you can buy in grocery stores. The staff told me that the larger loaf is made specifically for restaurants. Great experience. I highly recommend this restaurant for gf soups and sandwiches (salads too, I think).
Good food BUT you have to watch them closely to make sure they follow procedures to prevent cross contamination. They will remake it if you see them not following procedures.
They have dedicated counter space for preparing delicious gf sandwiches. During both of my visits, the staff was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Sandwiches and potato salad - yum!
They gave GF bread available. There is also a nutritional guide binder with ingredient lists available. Only thing is I had to remind the young girl working there to change out gloves and put parchment down. They may need better training to prevent CC.
Gluten free sandwiches prepared in a separate area. It was good and I do go back regularly.
