Honestly, what are you supposed to get? Not offering gluten free tortillas is ridiculous. I don't understand why they can't do that.
I was very happy here. The employee put on new gloves and covered the tray with ton foil. He walked me down the line. Everything here is gluten free except the tortillas, steak, and obvious cookies. It's good! Ask to see their allergen list.
I was feeling guilty for requesting GF. They went out of their way to check my choices before I got in line. Very appreciative.
The food was tasty but the girls working there had no idea about gluten free. And continued to insist I could eat the flour tortillas even after I explained that there was gluten in them. It's a bad idea to argue with a customer and even worse when it's over a very bad allergy. I should have left but was tired and hungry and I know my options at freebirds.
The employers have a list of ingredients that are GF, which is located behind the counter. Lots of options were available. I choose to get a burrito bowl. I liked that they did not touch the ingredients with their hands. It was a nice change from Chipotle! I plan to come again.
Just let them know you're gluten free and they will get you a clean tray and change their gloves. I always have had great experiences here and have never gotten sick. :)
The best experience, each and every time. They are soooo careful. They scrub up to their elbows, change gloves, wash a tray and have a separate gf menu. Ask for Bobby to take care of you - he knows about celiac disease and really looks out for his guests. Food is great too!
Manager was knowledgeable about what was gluten free - the rest of the staff not so much. Most everything there is gluten free. Chips are made in fryer that is not exposed to gluten so they are not cross contaminated. Had nachos and they were great. Didn't get sick!
I went when it was not crowded at all. They were very careful with my food and avoided cross contamination. I basically could have meat and lettuce though. The cross contamination on a busy day would be through the roof so I could not ever eat there on a busy day.
Would not recommend for Celiacs. Workers were not at all aware of cross contamination or contentious. Some sauces are not GF and neither is steak. Sauces are placed in a way that the can drip into each other. Looking back I think they used the same spoon for all the meats. I wish I had just left and headed to Chipotle. Now I am paying for letting myself get over hungry and making a bad decision.
On a road trip with three dogs, super accommodating of gluten allergy, put on new gloves, got new utensils and gave me an allergen menu. Very friendly staff, great for dogs for outside seating. Perfect road tip stop. Out door seating for dogs is in shade at 6 p.m
very delicious food!
I asked if the corn tortillas were just corn and gluten free and the employee asked another longer term employee who did not know for sure but said "probably." He said there are lists of ingredients somewhere but didn't know where. He did look for a bit but Wasn't successful. I wouldn't have given a two star rating with just that, but the fact that the original employee had an obvious smirk on his face the whole time and looked like he was trying really hard not to roll his eyes at me was really uncalled for.
I've always had a great experience here. As a gluten-free vegetarian I enjoy the tempeh they have in a burrito bowl. The first time I asked for it there was some confusion about my allergy but the manager went over all of the ingredients with me and we cleared up any confusion. They're very friendly & the food has a lot of flavor! Better version of Chipotle I think!
When I asked about gluten free, the server looked like a deer in the headlights. He had to go find a manager. They couldn't find a list of allergens or of gluten free items. They asked if they should change their gloves. I walked them through based on info I pulled from their website (from the Find Me Gluten Free App!). t
Great menu options. Any burrito can be made into a gluten free bowl.
Awesome fresh food and everything except ranch, ancho sauce, steak and tortillas are gluten free
I love this place but I always try to go as early as I can when they open so there isn't any risk of cross contamination!
Guy was very helpful In helping me choose what items I could and couldn't have... They did have a list of items which helped going down the line when telling him what I wanted in my bowl... There are a couple of items here to choose from but I wouldn't say a lot... I would eat here again
Beware - the reviews on here are for Freebirds all around the country. The one in Richardson, TX didn't have a clue. The best they could do for us was mention they had corn tortillas. We asked how they would serve them to us and they said with whatever we wanted. No suggestions were given. This was after the girl taking the order got flustered and asked a co-worker for help. We were not offered any gluten free menu and the staff acted like they could care less if they helped us or not. We left without ordering.
Very friendly and helpful staff. They gave me a laminated allergen list to look at while I walked the line. The staff member that helped me changed her gloves without me asking and was very considerate of my safe choices. I had 2 soft corn tacos piled with food. They were great! The manager also came and checked on me. Great experience!
The staff was excellent when it came to informing my wife and I what was GF on their menu. The guy, whose name I forgot, was super helpful. He immediately took off his serving gloves, washed his hands, and put a new pair on even before he grabbed a tray to help us. They informed me that besides all the flour tortillas the only other items with gluten were their steak, BBQ sauce, and their ranch dressing. So there are actually quite a few options as well as combinations to choose from. I had a pulled pork burrito bowl (less carbs) and my wife had the chicken bowl. We also had chips and queso. Every bit was delicious and we'll definitely be back.
The staff are completely ignorant of gluten free ways. And to simply even ask them to place a corn tort in between 2 foil sheets will cause a confusion equal to quantum physics. I've visited other locations that go above and beyond to accommodate a celiac but this isn't one of them.
The first girl I dealt with was rude and wanted to pass my order off to someone else (rolling her eyes) but then a nice young man came over with gluten free menu in hand and was happy to help me. Attached photos are from the actual menu they showed me and it definitely made the process easier. Most items are gluten free, except for the steak.
Similar to Chipotle in its set up and menu offerings (bowls, burritos, tacos, etc.), but not quite as flavorful, in my opinion. Staff was ready to accommodate me with fresh, clean gloves and separate prep plate to prepare my meal. Not everyone was knowledgeable about their gluten free items, despite having a corporate print-out in front of them. Their chips were light, crisp and very good.
I got a Burrito Bowl which is a burrito minus the tortilla. I got the white rice, cheese, refried beans, chips, and queso all of which were GF. However, I got the steak and didn't check to see if it was GF because I assumed it was. But it is not gluten free. Still, as long as you are careful this is a great place to eat! Very yummy!
I went to Freebirds every single Friday for over a year. I'm Celiac and I never had any issues. Then, out of the blue, they changed their menu options. Hard corn shells went away, portion sizes changed, and the "taco meal" disappeared. I've been back once since. It's still good, but it's more difficult to eat GF now. I get the nachos with carnitas, cheese, queso, lettuce, and tomatoes. They SHOULD have a printed menu of what's gluten free. Have them change their gloves and wash a tray for you. If you opt for soft corn, ask that they warm them up in the microwave (or maybe between foil in the toaster things?).
Sorry, but I walked in and then I walked out after watching the serving spoons making contact with the flour shells ahead of me. After reading some of the latest reviews it looks like I made the correct decision. This is really too bad, there's such limited choices, if at all, for people with celiac while we're away from home.
Wow! The employees were so helpful and not critical of my intolerance to gluten. So affordable and yummy!
