Everything was labelled well. don't chose items next to a wheat containing item. may have cross contamination. You will need to ask to have it cooked in the back so it doesn't get cooked on the same surface as all the others.
so glad they are now here. Very knowledgeable staff. Gf written under items. ask for gf soy sauce. manager has it.
I love this place. You build your own meal with the fresh ingredients you want. the sauces are labeled as to what contains gluten, and the cooks will take it and cook it on a separate grill in back. My Waiter asked me if I had food allergies before he even asked what I wanted to drink. I'll not sure how safe this place would be for Celiac's because of potential cross contamination, but I have gluten intolerance and have never gotten sick.
This place is GF (and vegan) friendly, but I won't be eating here ever again. The risk of cross-contamination (by customers) is very likely. I've witnessed too many gross things done by customers handling food. If you want to avoid this, go right when they open - then the grill AND food will be clean for sure. The staff is *usually* super nice, and they *try* to keep the food clean. If you like this place, get a GG card. We've gotten plenty of free bowls here before we stopped going.
The staff is very knowledgable of gluten free items on the menu. My favorite go to place to eat in a hurry.
Mgr told me none of their items were GF just Gluten friendly
After reading another person's review, I was looking forward to trying this place out, especially as family members have praised it as a great place to eat. When I got there, I explained I was gluten free and received a special card to indicate that. I asked for brown rice when I chose a starch. When I received my bowl, I dug in but surprised to find two noodles in it after a few minutes. I called our waitress over and the manager over. They apologized and offered to replace the bowl. Having just gone gluten-free and researched this place, I was disappointed and no longer hungry. I hope this was a teaching opportunity for the those working the grill and thank goodness I didn't get sick.
great food. gf options are clearly labeled
Asked if they had GF menu and they had no idea what I was talking about. Did not know anything about gluten :( I went ahead and did the build your own and was pleasantly surprised to see items labeled if it had gluten, soy, etc. I'm glad I went with that choice! When I gave it to the cook, he even put a special tag to show allergy :) better experience than I expected
Awesome food! Great flavor!! I have already recommended this place to my friends. Me being very sensitive to gluten, the staff was very helpful and friendly :)
the staff here were courteous and very knowledgeable about my needs. they directed me to the GF sauces and the cook assured me my dish would be cooked in a separate area so cross contamination would be minimized. I didn't chance the marinated steak and would recommend against it for other Celiacs as well. The food was delicious and I had no reactions, I will visit this establishment often. I did come early so it was not busy, I only mention this because I know when some places get busy a minor slip up is more likely.
Love Genghis Grill! They have gluten free rice noodles that are very good and a couple of sauces that are GF. All items are labeled making it very easy to know what I can have. The staff are very cautious of allergies. They specifically ask before you build your bowl and before they cook your food if you have any. 5 stars all the way.
I used to love this place, when I wasn't told I had a gluten allergy, now every-time I go and I get the allergy blue card and they add the extra wood sticks to separate my food from the rest, I seem to ALWAYS get a couple pieces of food that I never put in mine. I know some places have a separate grill they cook on, but this one does not
Staff knows about handling allergies. They have sauces marked to indicate Gluten Friendly.
Since it's Mongolian Stir-Fry, you put your meat and veggies in your bowl. The sauces are labeled and lets you know which allergens they contain. The cooks ask if you have any allergies when they take your bowl and take it to the back to cook it separate from everyone else's bowl. If you are super sensitive you need to be careful on the buffet of items from the back falling into and mixing with buffet items in the front.
Somehow this works. Cross contamination should be an issue but it hasn't been. I favorite place to go.
This is my go to place when I want to go out to eat. They seem to take allergies/sensitivities pretty seriously. You get to pick what you want in the bowl. All their foods are clearly labelled with allergen info. My only complaint is that they don't have many sauce options if you're gluten free.
Excellent food with a knowledgable staff. The server and the kitchen staff easily provided me with info on "safe" sauces and were very accommodating to ensure my meal remained gluten free.
Has lots of GF options but this particular location really didn't know much about them. Things there are labeled "gluten friendly" and when asked they didn't know what that even meant. I continued to press and eventually they called a general manager and found out that "gluten friendly" DOES mean GF and they cooked it in the back in a separate place.
Seemed to be knowledgable about gluten allergies. Cook the food right in front of you on a different surface than all the other foods. Food was great, will return :)
We went in once and my fiancé did get sick, despite our telling the grill staff our needs. We decided to give them a second chance, and after explaining our situation better (we've had time and experience since then), and they cooked her meal in the back, away from any chance of cross-contamination. Also, in speaking with the manager of the restaurant, they let us bring our own sauce to guarantee that my fiancé gets the flavor, and the experience as everyone else, minus the fear of getting sick.
Very good food. Gluten free sauces marked. Dedicated cooking area!
If you like a variety of choices, you will be disappointed. They should not be allowed to be on the gluten free list (promoting a GF menu). They have one sauce that is GF, and a couple that are 'slightly gluten free'... How it can be slightly GF is confusing. Either it is or it isn't. However, if you like stir fry and don't mind a tomato based sauce, it's an ok choice.
Great food! This is a mongolian bbq rest where u make up your own bowl of food. My son, who has a gluten sens, loves this place cause he can have whatever he wants and change it each time we go. This is a rest staple for us. They also have a freq buyer card that earns u free bowls. Great place for allergy sens people.
I'm generous with a three star rating. Food was ok. Staff seemed put out when having to cook my food separate bc of a food allergy- in my book, don't advertise it if you aren't going to provide the service willingly. Store maintenance was minimal- lots off food on the floor (probably because customers have the ability to "stack" everything in their own bowl so it's custom) -- so that is to be expected but hopefully minimal. Only two sauce choices- a hot and a sweet and sour for gluten free conscious customers- which neither are for me. Lots of choices for proteins, veggies, and whatnot. Bottom line: not the best Mongolian BBQ I have been to- but to each their own!
Awesome food, knowledgeable staff, great experience
Staff very helpful and courteous but the meat was less than tasty and my brown rice was crunchy. The veggies and such were fresh. Was concerned about buffet style and cross contamination. Cook cleaned off section on grill for me. Stomach felt a bit not right after and has been off all week. Not sure if it was gluten or something else. Probably won't go there again. Too nervous about it.
great menu, great food, great price
We just tried to eat at the Forum location in San Antonio, TX. Not being our first rodeo, we asked for the manager to explain how GF worked there. He informed us that they had no gluten-free sauces. He explained that Genghis Grill had "gluten-friendly" sauces, which he said meant they had less wheat than others. You can't really make Mongolian BBQ without sauce, so as far as I'm concerned Genghis Grill has no place in a GF list.
