Update: Market was closed but has now opened as Oovah Wine Gallery and is a wine and Tapas bar. It has same address as Market and owners are the same. They are taking this new establishment Gluten Free. The whole menu is gluten free with the exception of the waffle which they are working on making a gluten free version so every item will be GF eliminating gluten all together. Visit Oovahnyc.com and check out the menu. The food is absolutely amazing. If you click on the website link for Market on this app it takes you to the Market website but there is a letter explaining their new venture. Then click on the Oovah below it takes you right to there menu. Page down to bottom click on GF and read their statement Going to be upfront with you. My son owns this restaurant but don't let that disuade you from reading on. When my husband and I were diagnosed with celiac along with soy, dairy, and egg intolerance, I had the privilege of going through every recipe ingredient. I went through his fridges, freezers, shelves checking every product for allergens. Because everything is basically from scratch it wasn't hard to do. I talked about food prep and educated him and the staff. They are well schooled. I wish I could go into every place I eat and do the same to know for sure that I will not get sick. Most of his dishes were already Gf but he made small changes to give us even more Choices. What I love the most is the fact that they know our issues and know what to do for any dish to accommodate if necessary. They have totally eliminated flour in their dishes except for the cakes which are made down stairs not in the main kitchen. While they do not have a separate prep area in the main kitchen due to its size, with the exception of pasta, most everything is GF so less risk of cross-contamination. But care is taken to avoid it. Separate pots and utensils are used for every dish. In the five years since our diagnosis we have never been ill after eating at this place. Since we live in California when we visit NY we mostly eat here to make sure we don't get sick on our vacation. while lot of restaurants now offer GF, most cannot accommodate our other issues so this is the safest for us. Check out their website: Marketcafenyc.com you can see their menus and get directions. When you visit the restaurant just let them know of any dietary issues and they will take good care of you.
The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, and you get a full menu of gluten free options. I had the pot roast, which was delicious. They even have a scrumptious gluten free bread pudding for dessert. Next time I'm in NYC, I'm definitely going back!
No gluten free food only cookies that are over priced
Gluten Free options including French Toast! I had an omelet, gf toast and home fries. Everything was delicious! I would definitely return!
My 3rd visit here. Friendly staff. One of the staff has a gluten allergy as well. Great food. Only gave it 4 stars because it took a while to get food and the check afterwards (they were busy). Will continue to eat there.
Went there tonight and it was closed. Sign on the door says they are open on Monday, nothing noting they were on vacation. Tables and chairs still set up. CALL FIRST!!
I sat at the bar alone since I'm in the city for work. The bartender on, Bryan, was insanely friendly and very knowledgeable. There is a dedicated gluten free menu and the fries are the only thing they fry so there is no cross contamination there. I had the tilapia tacos, French fries that I dipped in a cactus aioli, and a coconut mojito made with a gluten free vodka. My food came out very timely and the meal was absolutely delicious. Bryan was also super friendly in helping me map out a good running rout for the morning. I will certainly be returning.
Cute cafe in Hell's Kitchen with a nice GF menu. Excellent burgers, solid fries, very friendly staff. It wasn't a gluten free bun, rather just plain sandwich bread, but still an excellent burger. Had an amazing warm caramel rice pudding for dessert. Highly recommend this for my fellow celiacs!
If there was any way to give half a star, I would. This place was by far, the worst dining experience I've ever had. I went with a friend and we both got burgers. We asked for medium and medium rare and both got well, well done. We had 3 different waiters who were all equally terrible. First one forgot to bring my soda (which was the only drink we ordered and also the only thing we got aside from our burgers. The fries were beyond awful. They tasted like they had been sitting in a fryer full of old nasty oil for days. My friend who normally will eat just about anything, couldn't even finish the burger because it was so over cooked and dry. Now the third waiter who brought out the food asked me if I needed any mayo or mustard and I asked for mayo. He immediately forgot. A group of about 5 people came in and that must have gotten him flustered bc they're not used to people actually wanting to dine there? I'm not sure. But I am sure that I will never go here again and I advise you to heed my warning and the warnings of other users on here. Wish I did.
One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. Horrible food. Both my food and my boyfriends food was burnt and inedible. Both the gluten free bun and the regular bun was hard as a rock. Couldn't even bite through it. Sent the food back and went somewhere else. Overpriced and very long wait time for food to come out.
Is this place even open? I passed by there because of the exceptional reviews of the place in addition to the extensive GF selection but I went passed there around 5pm on a Sunday and it looked boarded up.
Great find! Gf fries are super yummy!! Owner/wait staff is very knowledgable and aims to please. Gf bead served with hummus or bruschetta. Worth the trip!!
Food was amazing! After a day of trying to find wheat free and soy free food in NYC this place was great! Most places didn't have a clue. Staff and chef really attentive. Not bad prices for NYC.
Amazing food! Gluten free heaven
Imagine-a restaurant that serves a hamburger on a bun! There's not much in my local vicinity that has a gluten free hamburger with the bun, so it was great to find this place in the city. I went here recently with a group of friends who are not gluten free-they loved their food. I love being able to go out with my friends and have a full menu, things many people don't understand how incredible it is! Will be returning upon my next visit to the city soon!
Their website said they opened at 11 for brunch on Saturday. We waited an hour and they never opened. They chef came out after seeing us waiting and said they didn't open until noon. I won't go here again.
They now have a printed GF menu with many choices of sandwiches, entrees, pasta and salads. Great fries and burgers.
Knowledgable staff, separate GF menu. Trendy diner feel without the extended late night diner hours. Worth the trip.
everything was AMAZING best gf food I've had in a while!! fries are incredible and so many choices. also the staff is amazing!!
Great food! Awesome staff! GF menu!!!
Delicious food and helpful staff. Convenient location for pre-show dining (5-10 minutes to most theaters.) Service was a little slow on a recent visit, but the meal was well worth the wait. Dedicated GF fryer(!), so definitely order some fries.
A lovely find! The food was amazing and the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive. Very concerned about my food sensitivities (gluten and dairy) and went out of their way to make sure I left happy and full. Will definitely eat here again.
Had a nice steak in a swank atmosphere, not easy to find around 42nd Street let alone GF.
Very nice dinner in a casual setting. Loved the gnocchi. Knowledgeable staff.
