I was a little worried about the safety from gluten and XC since Mezoco is now a food truck. When the bar location was still open, it was my favorite restaurant in Montclair. A few days ago I found the truck at the Montclair Farmer's Market. I told the guys on the truck that I used to go to the restaurant and that I have Celiac and they all assured me that everything is still 100% safe. My ex girlfriend and I each got chicken quesadillas (only $6 each) with a cup of fresh salsa. I can happily say that I had no reaction and the food is 100% like I remember: fresh, hot, authentic, and delicious!

The truck is at the Montclair Farmer's Market every Saturday. Since I go to school at MSU, I definitely plan on becoming a regular customer once again.

This is now a food truck. It’s very hard to find/know where the truck is and when it’s there which saddens me because it was so darn good! They update their Facebook and Twitter accounts but I’ve only seen it after the fact. Went to one location on the date and times referenced in their post but they weren’t there. Called once and number just rang, may be better to email.

I love this place! I found it on the gf app a little over a year ago and it brought delicious Mexican food back into my life!

I am VERY allergic (anaphylactic) to Wheat/Oat/Barley (which contain gluten) and have dairy/beef/soy intolerances, plus a multitude of other food allergens some anaphylactic some less severe. Having serious allergies makes it hard to eat out, but not at this place! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The owner (of the restaurant) is also very knowledgeable and friendly and takes your allergens and food concerns seriously.

I have eaten there multiple times over the past year without any incidents and it is a huge sigh of relief!

The food is packed with flavor, and there is an awesome condiments bar with all kinds of toppings to add to your tacos and bowls(not sure if this is still unlimited since they’re a mobile facility now). My favs are the Blackened fish taco (sans crema - I add the orange habanero salsa) & the carnitas tacos. All the dishes are also priced reasonably.

Great tacos and 100% GF. Don't be afraid of the bar location. The kitchen and bar are separate.

My son, a student at Montclair State with celiac disease, recently tried Mezoco and loved it. Happy that he found another celiac-safe restaurant near campus (only 3 so far), we tried it with him and were very impressed. First off, my wife and I had a Blue Moon and margarita from the bar (separate business from restaurant and not gluten free). She ordered nachos with chicken, I got the Peach’s Tacos (my son’s recommendation), and he ordered a Mezoco Bowl with carnitas. We all loved the food, and their salsa bar is great too. It has everything from cheese, different salsas and hot sauces to sour cream and pickled onions. Try the orange habanero salsa - it is truly outstanding. Black beans were the most flavorful I’ve had, and their chips are warm and freshly made, too. So whether you are gluten free by choice, necessity or not at all, enjoy delicious fresh Mexican food at a reasonable price. Cool place, friendly staff and convenient location. We will surely be back.

PS - tres leches dessert and burrito are not GF but owner ensures no cross contamination

This place is unique, in that it is right off of a train station stop, and half of it is a proper bar. You come in, order at the hostess station, then grab a seat. You order your drinks from the bar, and the margarita goes perfectly with the Mexican food from the restaurant side ;).

I’ve been here 4 times now and have never had an issue. I am very sensitive to gluten and only dine out very occasionally, and only certain places that I trust.

The food was delicious. They even have a condiment bar fully stocked with all kinds of salsas, all ranging in levels of heat, pickled onions (um, yum!), sour cream, hot sauce in the bottle, limes, cilantro, diced onions, jalapeños, etc. etc. Friendly service on both restaurant and bar sides and reasonable prices.

It’s been a while since I was able to eat Mexican food before I found this place - and I’m so happy I did. I just wish I lived closer because I’d come here all the time.

Since I don't know how to put out an accurate and actual description of my restaurant I'm going to clarify a few things through a review.

I am the owner of Mezoco Mexican taqueria. We are GLUTEN FREE. All of our recipes are gluten free and have been eaten by celiac as well as people anaphylactic to gluten, which is a considerably more serious condition, and in over 6 years of serving this community have never had a problem. When we decide to make a menu item that does use gluten I ensure my staff is fully trained on how to prevent cross contamination. My previous establishment was a sandwich shop that specialized in our conventional bread. My business partner's son was anaphylactic to wheat and gluten and we NEVER had any issues.

As for beer, we don't cook with it and it's behind the bar, not in the kitchen.

@abuster I don't know who told you that information, but the only thing in the kitchen that has gluten at this time is our tres leches cake and we don't cook with any gluten. That cake is baked in a different facility and kept in a separate place from any other items.

I encourage everyone to have a healthy fear of where they eat and what they eat since it is ultimately their responsibility, but to that end I am happy to answer any and all questions you may have. If you don't feel comfortable dining with us there is nothing I can do about that except reference my knowledge of the subject and my track record.

If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask.

All the best,

Greg

Actually, they told me on Saturday’s they have GLUTEN in the restaurant that they cook in the kitchen, if I am not mistaken- so it is not a completely gf/celiac kitchen. That said, that does not mean it is not safe, but it should be known. Food is good (although I ate it scared after I knew because I thought it was completely gf) maybe just a bit less garlic.

It's a little hard to find, the location is actually half bar (different owner) and half restaurant. The restaurant is only a few tables and you have to order at the front and then sit and wait for it. Like others said it is 100% gluten free and my chicken quesadilla was awesome but the tacos were definitely sub par.

A little misleading. We didn't try the food because it's actually located in the back of a Bar. Beer everywhere. I asked the waitress if everything was gluten free and she said yes, "except for the hamburger buns". I'm sure it's tasty but we were too worried about cross contamination to try it.
