I found out about Mojo Old City BBQ in 2019 when looking for safe dining options for our St Augustine vacation. This place was somewhere that was listed as being safe for me (dairy, egg, gluten)
The food is excellent and waitstaff knowledgeable. While there is no dedicated allergens menu, they will help you navigate options that are safe.
I have had the burnt ends, smoked chicken wings and side salads multiple times without issue.
We have been here many times in 2019 and completely obsessed about returning for four years until getting back here in 2023. The food is still amazing and I can easily recommend it! Great Old City location near shopping and parking as well.

So DELICIOUS! The server was kind & knowledgeable. They give you a list of foods that contain gluten to cross reference with your menu, but it's better to just use common sense & not even try to do that. Our family of 4 ordered The Whole Hawg for $46 & shared it. It comes with pulled pork, beef brisket, half a chicken, turkey, ribs, smoked sausage and 4 sides. All of the meat was gf and they have plenty of gf sides to choose from. It was some of the BEST pulled pork, brisket, and turkey I have ever had. The chicken was excellent as well. The ribs literally fell off of the bone. I chose the mashed sweet potatoes as a side, and they were so yummy, it was like a dessert. It's a massive amount of food. We couldn't even finish it all. I have Celiac and did NOT get sick. I highly recommend trying it! Another reviewer mentioned that parking was terrible...Yes, St. Augustine, the oldest city in the continental US, founded 1565, is a tourist destination with extremely narrow streets & very few parking lots. The best thing to do is pay $15 to park in the parking garage, and take in the sights from the parking building to the restaurant. Everything is so interesting, you'll probably want to stay in the historic district long enough that you'll definitely get your money's worth from the parking pass.

As a local, we eat here somewhat regularly. No Gf menu, but you can talk to your server. I have gotten platters (brisket, BBQ, grilled chicken) with mashed potatoes and veggies, no problem - just explain GF and request no gravy and no bread. Salads good, just no croutons. I always ask for a glove change - in every restaurant- and I’ve only once had a challenge at Mojos and it was handled immediately by the manager. A different reviewer said there is gluten in the BBQ sauces but I have been using the sweet sauce for several years without an issue - and I have celiac and I am incredibly sensitive to any gluten.

Not celiac friendly. Waiter had no knowledge of a separate gluten free menu. Or what items were gluten free. According to him there are no separate fryers. FYI the smoked chicken wings are not gluten free. My son took 3 bites and got sick immediately.
All the bbq sauces have gluten and are not listed on the GF menu. Also the server pointed out other things on the GF menu that were not safe. It took getting several employees involved to figure out what was safe and they seemed annoyed by my asking. Skip this place.

BBQ was very good and the staff was very knowledgeable!
Everyone enjoyed their food. They had lots of gluten free choices. Service was excellent.
My experience at Mojos was very good. My daughter is Celiac and she was able to get a kids brisket and a side of corn. They told us all the barbecue sauces were gluten free. Our waitress was very good with our allergy. The staff looked up ingredients just to make sure we were safe. None of us got sick and that was a huge relief.

Great meal. There is a menu that tells you what you can not have. Excellent food and service!

So many GF options that they have a 'list of what has gluten in it rather than a GF menu. All sauces are GF and most meats. Plenty of sides to choose from (no fries though). Had a great meal. Will go back!

Based on previous reviews, I had high hopes about eating here. It's true that when informing your server of a gluten allergy, you receive a list of items to not order instead of a gluten free menu/list of what is safe to eat. You would assume that anything not on the list would be safe to order however when asking about their Smoked Wings which were not on the list but noted on the menu that they were "flash fried" we were told they did not have a dedicated fryer and were not safe. Oops. 1st red flag. Ordered the Smokehouse Chicken after repeating to my server that I had a gluten allergy and meal came out with a giant piece of jalapeño corn bread (not gluten free) on the plate. Sent it back, requesting a new meal due to likely contact with the rest of the meal. New meal came out within moments which raised concern that they just took the bread off and re-served the meal. Needless to say, within hours after eating it was clear I got "glutened." I did have a pleasant email exchange with the manager who refunded our meals, said that she would have meetings with the entire staff to retrain them on gluten allergies and would add the wings to the "do not order" list. A corporate response was a bit more troubling, explaining all their internal procedures to ensure food allergy diners safety but clearly they had no idea that frying food in a shared fryer would cause cross-contamination as it was news to them. I will avoid based on my experience. I hope they follow through and tighten up their internal systems to ensure their gluten free food is actually gluten free.

Great BBQ and staff. Plenty of GF options.

Our server was very conscience of my son's gluten allergy. She has wonderful knowledge of the menu. Service was lightning fast. Price is fair for the amount of food you get. I love walking in and when talking about gluten allergies the list you get is what you can't have!
Yes
Decent BBQ, $10-20. Ask for the menu that shows what you can't have plus add some common sense. Request no Texas toast and enjoy.
I will never eat here again. Last night I went and made it very clear to the waiter I was allergic to wheat, serious enough to carry an epi pen. He wasn't very knowledgable and said not to worry. He told me he couldn't guarantee any the sides were gluten free so I opted to not do any sides and just get plain chicken with bacon and onions. My plate came out with a large piece of cornbread right on top of my food! I politely said I'm sorry, I can't eat this and he said no problem I will get you another plate. Two minutes later he comes back with what I feel was the same food just with the cornbread removed. He insisted it was a new plate even though the new plate had butter on it. I am not one to complain so I asked for a box to take it home for someone else. When the bill came for my friends, I was charged the wrong amount for the chicken and was charged for two sides! I couldn't believe that they messed up my food, I couldn't eat, then they have the nerve to charge me $18.00 for a small piece of chicken, a slice of bacon, and onions (which I later found out are all possibly cross contaminated anyway). After paying I spoke to the manager who claimed they are "usually" good about these things but gave me the excuse they were busy. She did refund my money however. Bottom line, I do not feel safe to ever eat here again.
Service here was outstanding. The waitress was on top of her game and was very knowledgable. Lots of gluten free items and was handed a sheet of paper to tell me what HAD gluten in it (short list). I had the Mojo Chicken and my gf had the pulled pork. I would def opt for the pulled pork, it was SO GOOD. Their sauces were gluten free and REALLY tasty. Their Brunswick stew was AMAZING and gluten free!!! Had my chicken had been better I would've given this place 5 stars. Their French fries were made in house and so good!

Food was amazing! Incredibly knowledgable staff! They make notes on orders to ensure that gloves and utensils are changed. The understand food allergies and the ingredients in their meals. They even label fries as containing gluten because of cross contamination. I will eat here every time I am in St. Augustine!
Yes
Their menu states their fries and chicken wings are gluten free, yet they cook them in the same fryer with everything else. After asking the cooks said they could cook the wings on the grill. Anyways, if your celiac you can eat here but ask lots of questions and make sure you let the cook know your celiac
This was amazing BBQ!!!!!!! They had a sheet of things I couldn't eat and really it was stuff I already knew I couldn't have. I had the pulled BBQ with beans and mash potatos and it was good! We also shared nachos as an app and they were also amazing! I say give it a try as a GLUTEN FREE FRIEND.
Yes
Server and kitchen staff are knowledgable about celiac and proper food handling, and they assured a GF meal. Server guided me through the menu so as to avoid hidden gluten. Fryers are not separated; be sure not to have fries. I really enjoyed it!
Good BBQ. They have a list of items that contain gluten.

It was fun to have several sauces to choose from. We all had BBQ meats and tried several sides. Service was sweet, but plan a little extra time.
Had lunch there today. Service was good. Nothing out of this world. Food was good as well. Not the best BBQ I've ever had. Had the ribs. They were delicious but not hot. Sides I had were beans and a side salad. Both were just mediocre. Would I return? Maybe. But it wouldn't be my first choice for BBQ. So far no reaction.

If you're in the mood for great BBQ, this is the place to go. It's a gluten free, meatlover's paradise. :)
