great food! my husband and I really enjoyed the tacos :)
Knowledgable staff and great food.
Great GF experience! Randall, the floor manager, explained how they avoid cross contamination with items that contain gluten and also reassured me that several people who require GF accommodations dine at this location. Make sure your corn chops are the baked ones -- not the fried ones. I had a tasty GF chicken enchilada and my GF dining guest had a GF chicken fajita. They have the best corn flour tortillas! The garlic white wine butter sauce makes the fajitas unique and delicious! Can't wait to return. Highly recommend
The servers are not knowledgable what so ever. If you have a true allergy, ask for the chef to come out. They have actual GF corn tortillas...however, because the staff has no clue they will serve you the corn ones made there (which contain wheat). Be careful!!
I have celiac but do not show symptoms so cannot speak to that but they have a GF menu & kitchen manager Alonzo came out to discuss the safe prep practice. He made a recommendation for items that do not come in contact with gluten & their process for safely preparing items that do. I felt comfortable after reading recent reviews & speaking to the well informed manager.
4 stars only because there is just one selection. The food was great. The only option is the soft taco platter with corn tortillas, shredded chicken or ground beef. Served with rice and beans. I had the shredded chicken. It was delicious and causes no reaction. The cashier was actually very knowledgeable. She seemed very young, so I was impressed that she knew about the risks of cross contamination and hidden ingredients. It's hard to find truely gluten free food at the airport, but this little counter service restaurant in Terminal E at IAH is wonderful.
Gluten free chips and enchiladas. Table side guacamole. Not a gf kitchen but a separate area.
Separate GF menu with a pretty good selection of appetizers and entrees. Apparently the chips are not safe but they will bring you baked chips. (Not as great as fried chips, but the tableside guacamole is enough to carry the day.) The manager came out to talk about my meal and they seem to take things pretty seriously.
Seperate GF menu and knowledgeable wait staff. Plate came out with a GF marker so I knew I had the right plate of food. Large Portions and good food. Better than expected for an airport.
This was the best Mexican food I think I've ever had outside of California. I ate an incredible beef brisket soft taco that was very flavorful but also very fresh. That being said, their seafood is what you should go their for. The fish comes in fresh daily and tastes amazing. Everything was amazing. The only catch is that the fajitas are really expensive on any day but Wednesday.
Great food and big portions. Waiter was knowledgeable on the gf menu and offered to do a sampler if desired. Went with 1 beef and 1 chicken taco with rice and beans and was filled up. Great option for airport food.
I was nervous about going here because it seems it would be very easy for cross contamination to occur at a Mexican restaurant. The GF menu was small, as most are, but well rounded. I was worried I may not be able to have any chips but they had baked chips which were very good. I chose to avoid the Mexican rice even though it was considered GF because of the spices which sometimes doesn't sit well with me. The staff was very helpful and seemed knowledgeable. My belly feels great. A very pleasant experience and I can't wait to go again.
Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone with celiac. I'm sitting in the restaurant right now. Took my family out to dinner as I'm visiting from Nashville. Their carne asada & chicken is marinated in soy sauce and contaminates the entire grill. Also, they make flour tortillas inside the kitchen so wheat flour is airborne inside their entire kitchen. I opted not to chance getting sick so I did not order anything. My family's meals look and smell great though. It's very frustrating that restaurants are capitalizing by the "gluten free fad". Just because they have a gluten free menu does not mean it's gluten free. Wheat flour in the kitchen? Soy sauce on the grill? No thanks-not worth being on my back for over a week. Go at your own risk. Cheers.
Best Mexican food I have ever had. Limited gluten free menu, but I had the chicken tinga tacos and they were amazing. The manager came out to chat with us after placing our order and the food was ready in <10 minutes. Perfect place to stop in DFW.
The food was good enough, met my expectations for airport food. Thankful for Celiac-safe food during a very long day of travel. Customer service was so great, manager came over and confirmed food handling procedures. Made me feel I was in good hands.
Excellent friendly service very fast and incredibly tasty. Would be back for sure. Very nice ambience with Mexican music. Love their beef enchiladas. Meal and tip cost me $22.
have a GF menu. staff asked about vegis that I wanted chef cleared them as GF. great taste!!
Great service and the manager came out to assure me everything was done correctly for no cross contamination. It is in the airport so not giving it 5 stars for flavor but 5 stars for awareness. I will update after I have the meal and I am not affected.
staff was very attentive to our gluten concerns. food was delicious.
Very conscientious! Much appreciated. Beef enchiladas were nice to have.
Crispy chicken tacos were great, and I hear the beef ones are safe as well. Beware the soft tacos come with flour tortillas! I also asked about the enchiladas and they have flour in the sauce so avoid that!
The Manager came to the table to discuss options and they were very helpful. Very happy with this restaurant
Amazed to find a great GF place like this in the airport! Super knowledgable about what I can order (even knew I couldn't have the tortilla chips bc they're fried in common oil). She even went and got the manager to confirm everything was GF and he assumed me it will be prepared on a dedicated area with clean utensils- I think the manager actually prepared it himself! Only one/ two GF options, but that's better than none. And the service was amazing.
Michael was nice and was so helpful. When I come through here again I will ask for him. He made recommendations because I have celiac. The manager, Robert, came over to my table to assure me how my meal was going to be prepared. They checked on me several times and all I can say is it was wonderful to have gluten-free Mexican food. It was delicious. I had the chicken enchiladas. The meal was large and the red sauce was warm and so good. Exceptional!!!!
Read this for the facts of the restaurant ;-) I give this place 5 stars for all the options that they have that are gluten free. The GF chips are horrible though. They do not have any GF beer or cider. They do have GF mixed drinks as most mixed drinks are GF.
Gave us the wrong chips, I have celiacs and will now be sick.
I am so glad that I tried this restaurant. Fantastic tasting food and a much larger than expected GF menu to choose from. I had the guacamole (fresh and very tasty) pork tacos (packed full with meat), and a side cheese enchilada (with chili topping). My server seemed knowledgeable about gluten free preparation and stated that the chefs were very careful to avoid cross contamination (without prompting). Overall a very pleasant visit. I will definitely visit this establishment again to try the other menu items that I was tempted by. :) Only negative - No chicken for GF customers (and I really like chicken enchiladas)... Sigh. Of Note - this should be listed as a "$$" dining experience for the GF menu pricing.
Similar to the other reviews, the floor manager came out, enquired about my other allergies and guided me about my options. Very good service.
Gluten free menu has a fair amount of options and my meal arrived with a little wooden marker that said "gluten free". Better yet, the customer service here was absolutely incredible. I asked for my chicken enchilada to be prepared without onions but there must've been a miscommunication about just onions as topping vs. onions throughout the dish. The manager came over and explained that that was the only chicken enchilada that was gluten free and that they would be able to send out another with the onions skimmed out but that onions were used in the base preparation throughout. Everyone was very knowledgeable and helpful to ensure I didn't have a gluten reaction and that my distaste for onions were accommodated. At a Mexican restaurant! Great staff, beautiful location, and delicious food - what more could you ask for?! My boyfriend ordered the beef brisket enchilada and said it was delicious. I'll be back.
Knowledgeable staff, manager came over to explain and first question...is it celiac or diet choice. Perfect... menu plentiful options. Good stop wish they were in more airports.
Separate gluten-free menus the manager came out and spoke with me very accommodating! food was great
They do have a gluten free menu with several choices although when my lunch arrived the tortillas looked very light in color - like flour. I asked the server to verify that my plate was GF and he had no idea. He called the manager over and she stated "yes, we put the a sauce on the side because it has tomorrow's in it".... Yikes! Eventually it was determined safe for me to eat. I can't speak to ill affects I took a glinted ease to clam my paranoia. Food was okay.
The staff at Pappasito's Willowbrook was careless and made my son and I sick yesterday. We were part of a 16 person group for a family birthday party. At the Pappasito's on 290 in Houston, we have been able to safely eat out. At that location, the waitress brought the kitchen manager to speak with us as soon as we mentioned gluten free. At the Willowbrook Mall location, we were given gluten free menus by the hostess when asked. The waiter seemed dismissive. When we asked for baked chips and a separate bowl of salsa, he had a staff member bring it to us. Many of the staff members who serve chips and salsa speak little English. When the chip basket that my son and I were sharing was dwindling, we asked for more baked chips and salsa. The staff member assigned to bring the second basket brought us the wrong chips. They weren't the regular chips and they looked like baked chips. My son, who is 14 and devours food, stopped eating the chips right away because his stomach hurt. When the waiter came back around, he noticed that they had brought us cerveza chips instead of baked chips. Cerveza is Spanish for beer. I don't know if the chips actually had beer in them. The may have just been the chips served at the bar. They told my husband, while I was sick in the bathroom, that those chips shared a fryer with gluten. The manager was appalled and very apologetic. If you need to eat at this location, I would recommend asking for a manager from the beginning. If you are choosing a Pappasito's location in Houston at which to dine, I would recommend the 290 location. I will never trust this location for a safe meal.
a manager cane out to talk to me about my order and ask about my gluten sensitivity. super cool! Chips do not have a dedicated fryer but they are vigilant in letting you know.
