good gf food but very limited options and staff not knowledgeable
A very nice place with great food, and people knowledgeable in gluten. Our server was gluten-free herself, and recommended the gluten-free menu, gluten-free soy sauce, and even changes to items on the regular menu so that my wife (who suffers from celiac's disease) could have her favorite sushi dish. They even decorated our table and gave us a card and a special desert because we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. The grounds at the Marriott are beautiful and everyone at Roy's seemed friendly and professional. We'll definitely be going back!
They have the best flour less chocolate lava cake ever!!!!
Went here for my birthday dinner. We were impressed from start to finish. The staff was outstanding and very knowledgeable about their gluten free options. I had the butter fish and the sweet potato soup. Both were delicious. They brought me ice cream and a fabulous flourless chocolate cake which my kids pre ordered to surprise me. I can't wait to come here again.
Enjoy Roy's a couple of times a year. The chef is always happy to make something special for you once they know of your allergy. They prepare food in a separate kitchen space to reduce CC risk. Consistent high quality and impeccable service cannot be beat.
Huge disappointment. 1st time I ate at Roys in Kauai it was amazing. The meal was a showpiece. Service was off the charts. We have eaten in CA many times. Dining in Waikiki was like I was in another place. Service was shaky at best. We had our reservations since the night before or I would have walked out. I told the server I was gluten free highly allergic to gluten. Her attitude was almost then why are you eating here? My family was looking forward to eating there otherwise I would have closed my menu and left. It wasn't until I pushed to see what the chef could do that she started helping. They did serve me a GF meal, I hope. The meal was ok. My family said the same about there's. I don't live here so they won't go under I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. If I was running this site I pull them off.
Menus aren't labeled, but the bartender who served us knew the whole menu and made us feel very at ease. There were plenty of GF choices with little or no modification. The food was soo good, especially the ahi tuna roll (served with tamari).
Wonderful dinner. The food and service we're both excellent. They have many options that are naturally gluten free. My son wanted pasta, so we asked even though it isn't on the menu. The chef was happy to oblige. Also they made sure he could share my chocolate souffle which was fantastic. This is a nice restaurant so it's not inexpensive, I think it was close to $200 for 2 adults and 2 kids, but for Hawaii and for the meal and service we had it was certainly worth it.
Super sad. They did away with their separate gluten free menu and now have GF items listed on their regular menu. Some items that were on the gluten free menu are on the regular menu but now are no longer gluten free. No appetizers are gluten free and only 3 entrees are gluten free. Food was still amazing but the lack of options is saddening.
Awesome meal, best meal of the whole trip. Staff was really knowledgeable, most of the menu could be prepared gf, without leaving off sauces. They have gf versions of all the sauces so I never felt like I had to sacrifice flavor. Wonderful evening, highest recommendation.
The gluten free menu was excellent for my celiac daughter. I felt safe ordering because the waiters are knowledgeable about the gluten free menu. The chocolate soufflé was absolutely amazing. The raspberry sauce was warm, and the soufflé had just come out of the oven. So, so good!! This is a great place for celiacs looking to eat safely.
We have eaten here MANY times, almost every birthday dinner we celebrate in our family is done at Roy's. Our daughter has Celiac and we have never had one issue eating here. The wait staff and chefs are well trained about cross-contamination and have always been extremely careful. We LOVE the sushi and all of the gf choices offered here. Would highly recommend it!
Amazing!! They do not have a GF menu, however the staff was extremely knowledgable and basically made me a custom meal. I ordered the steamed salmon. They cooked it with GF seasonings and then brought me two different GF sauces for me to use. They also brought me rice and some vegetables. It was very yummy. My family is not gluten free and enjoyed their meals as well. For dessert they had banana fudge ice cream that was GF. They do have a flour-less chocolate soufflé - however the chocolate used has trace amounts of gluten. Amazing atmosphere. Only negative I have is that it was a bit slow with the service, but not frustratingly so.
Very disappointed. 2 of us who requested gluten free meals got extremely sick. Update: Talked to manager and they completely accommodated us. They made sure our meals were 100% gluten free.
Right up their with the best meals I've ever had. Amazing wine list, freshest fish and oysters. Sushi is amazing, I hadn't had it in 2 years and was so good I got an order to go and ate it for breakfast the next morning. Beef and fish dishes are amazing. Salads are fresh. Device is impeccable. They have gluten free listed right on the main menu for you.
We had a great server, who was very understanding and communicated well with the kitchen. Husband and I split the Caesar salad croutons on the side for him, I had the scallops with the corn risotto which they substituted the sauce with a GF one. For desert I had the chocolate soufflé!! So good!!
They almost knew more about gluten free food than I did, the staff was very well trained. They have gluten free soy sauce, and you don't have to request it. You can get all the options as a prix fixe meal, and the molten lava cake is so good, I was little worried... but the next day I still felt great, and I'm very sensitive.
Although a nice restaurant with friendly staff I received different info from every person about what I could get gluten free. This location doesn't have a GF menu and when I asked the waitress what I could have without having to modifying it she directed me to the short ribs as the only ok option as is. Later the mgr came over and assured me they could do something I would like that would be perfectly safe and needless to say I was ill within a hour of my meal. When I called just to let them know about the Issue I had they tried to tell me how careful they were and they did not get gluten in my food. I told them I only get that ill from gluten they still continued on about how they know about cross contamination etc etc what do u want from me, and I said I only wanted to let you know so you would be more careful for someone else. I got off the unhappy feeling like they didn't feel like they did anything wrong, they never even said they were sorry.
The Winter 2013 dedicated Gluten-free menu includes shrimp served on a bed of farro. The server was very apologetic and the kitchen (who was alerted to a gluten "allergy" initially) remade the dish with rice. Did not feel safe.
I got extremely sick after eating a "gf" meal here. Don't waste your money.
