Sugar Mama's Bakeshop

I’ve always loved Sugar Mama’s—it’s a great bakery! I just wouldn’t trust their GF items for being safe for celiac. I ordered a large GF custom cake and explained to them that my sister has celiac and they said they would do their best not to cross contaminate, wash everything, etc, but it wasn’t guaranteed. I’ve had good luck with other mixed bakeries in Austin so we tried it. Fortunately we tested it in a Nima sensor before she had any, and it contained gluten. Bummer that she couldn’t have any but that’s also the risk with mixed bakeries. I would definitely suggest going elsewhere for Celiac or other severe reactions/allergies.

My friend ordered a GF cake from here for my gender reveal as a surprise — I would’ve requested a full GF bakery had I known. I got so badly glutened by the cake. It has made me so sick. 10/10 do not recommend.

They only had one gf item when we arrived. The cookie my son bought was very good. I assume they have more to choose from earlier in the day.

I'm a celiac of 16 years. I walked here with my wife who is not celiac. We saw that they had 2 cupcakes and 2 cookies on display as gf. One of the rows of the gf cookies was right next to a row of gluten cookies. They were literally touching each other. We asked the girl behind the counter about this. She said they're made with gf ingredients, but recommended not eating any for very sensitive people. She mentioned how the baking area is very small and that there is flour everywhere. My wife got a cupcake and I declined to try any of the "gf" varietals. She really enjoyed it, so I was happy. But we most likely won't be back.

Moist gf cupcakes made fresh daily...never frozen. They only make one flavor of gf, and call the day before if you want more than six. I had champagne, and it was fabulous and beautiful!
