Cross off the list another chain restaurant claiming to be GF. Adverse reaction to GF Pei Wei Spicy Shrimp. Blame it on cross contamination, I guess.
I would honestly rather spend more money to go somewhere else :/
After my celiac kids got violently ill the last two times we ate here, I complained via the online Pei Wei site. Customer service was outstanding and they sent us 4 free meal gift cards to use and reassured me they have reviewed gf safety guidelines, etc. so we tried it again. I was told that they do not have separate utensils or woks for GF. They put oil in the wok and heat it to a very high temperature and call it good. Folks, please note that gluten is a protein and it doesn't "burn off" like they describe. I do NOT recommend this for anyone with celiac, it is simply not safe.
Wish they had more options. My wife is Celiac and we have eaten at the Troy site, dozens of times. My wife has never been contaminated. She would be ill within twenty minutes if so. That said, the company does not interested in expanding the menu. We have contacted them and get a form letter response.
lots of choice here. I had Vietnamese Spring Rolls.
Food was okay nothing I'd run back to any time soon.
Did not get what was ordered. Lots of cross contamination. Workers did not seem to know the importance of keeping things separated for allergy reasons, or did not care.
Pei Wei has been a leader in offering tasty GF options on their menu. The Pei-Wei Spicy Chicken Salad GF is a long-time favorite and I always get 2 lunches out of it. The Vietnamese Garden Rolls are always a great snack. Unfortunately, I feel they have been missing the mark lately with the new Lettuce Wraps and other new items that cannot be ordered gluten free. Lettuce Wraps have long been an almost universal alternative to carb-heavy and tortilla or bread-wrapped meals, and also one of the most common ways to provide a gluten free alternative (even at their parent restaurant - PF Changs). SO, it felt like a slap in the face as one of their biggest fans when their Lettuce Wraps hit the menu and there was no way to order it gluten free. I mean, c'mon, would it really be that hard to just switch over to all gluten free soy sauce or whatever it is in those things that shuts a good portion of your customers out of having them? Kikkoman even has a GF Soy Sauce now that is almost indistinguishable from the regular (shouldn't have wheat in it anyway) version.
I'm new to being gluten free, and this has become one of our go-to places. I love the sweet and sour chicken. They cook it with really fresh veggies and you can even have an option of fried or white rice! I've also tried their Vietnamese salad wraps and those satisfy my egg roll craving. I only wish they had a more expanse menu, but delicious and I haven't gotten sick! The staff is also pretty knowledgeable on gluten free options.
Ate here once, a few options, but the most exciting is gluten free sweet and sour chicken. Would go more often if it was closer
Don't order online, good food though
Pei Wei is a fusion restaurant that is owned by PF Changs. Gluten free menu shown online is more extensive than what the staff will show you at the restaurant. My advice is to look at the online menu to see what items can be made GF. The staff's knowledge of GF is not as good as PF Changs.
I really enjoy the Roasted Wok Veggie Salad. I add chicken too but need to remind the cashier to add GF chicken. They failed to do so once but fixed it immediately.
If you're looking for a quick place to get gluten free chinese, this place usually does the trick. Not a whole lot of options, but the price is right and it cures the craving. Plus their soda machines are just FUN!
Great GF options and friendly staff
The few GF options are good but a bit pricey. But I feel safe eating here. Met an chef that worked at a Pei Wei & he was trained regarding cross contamination. Lots of restaurants don't even know what that word is so the cook/chef reassured me they are aware & he was impressed in the efforts we make regarding safe eating.
Pei Wei does have a dedicated GF menu, I eat there at least once a week with no problems. Love their GF Vietnamese Rolls with the Sweet Chili Sauce, Yum! When in the mood for a little more, I like their GF Sweet n Sour Chicken with white rice, very filling and lots of flavor. They even have GF soy sauce. Check out their website, you'll see they have a GF menu!
Really good food but the staff is USELESS. They were out of white rice and brought me a plate with noodles that the guy said the manager said was totally gluten free. While looking it up on my phone the hostess runs over and takes them saying they're definitely not gluten free. I've eaten here twice and never been glutened but you have to be all over them if you want to walk out ok. Expect to spend half your calories dealing with the staff. That said I'll be eating here again, food's great.
I'm severe celiac. I've had the gf spicey crispy shrimp with extra shrimp and sometimes I add peanuts. like always, I let cashier know that I am not just choosing to stay away from gluten but severely allergic and let the kitchen staff know..and I have never had any issues. when I do go to places I take advantage of the opportunity to educate staff about being celiac. too many times I have heard people comment that they knew they gabe something witj gluten contamination to people and they comment "see, they had no reaction" Seems the general public ecpect something so quick as a peanut allergy for them to acknowledge if someone is truly allergic. little do they know how sick we can be for DAYS! Just because our reaction happens throughout digestion and not anaphylaxis. This place has been great to me!
while visiting from out of State, I brought family here thinking they could accommodate gluten free needs. Our group offered to leave when the cashier informed me they don't have any options then handed me a card with 2 salads minus any flavor (standard gf fair) and a sweet & sour option as well as a singapore noodle type option. Instead of making everyone else change, I ordered the gf sweet and sour. Yuck. They really should not advertise that they have a gf menu. They do not. The spring rolls are fried in the same oil as everything else so they are not gf. offering lettuce with no options at an asian place is not appealing at all. Save your money and frustration and skip Pei Wei, Orlando.
My food was contaminated and the selections suck. If you don't like sweet or spicy you're out of luck.
Very disappointed, the woman taking orders thrust a tiny gluten free menu at me. I was surprised the lettuce cups were not available gluten free based on what was in them. I then asked if they had gluten free soy sauce. She looked at me as though I had two heads and said "we have gluten free sweet & sour sauce". Ugh (we left and went next door)
I have never had a problem at this Pei Wei location.
We have eaten here for at least six years, sometimes once a week, and I have only gotten contaminated once. James is knowledgable, as are all the managers. Very accommodating to GF. Ask for double coated meat if you want it crispier. Love the Pei Wei spicy chicken salad, mild! Six options on the GF menu.
They have great choices on the menu. I love the new gluten free rolls!
My son is celiac and very sensitive. We eat here all the time and he has never reacted. The people that work there are really friendly and don't act like you are crazy when you ask them 14 times if it is gluten free.
Great food, horrible service.
Very limited menu for GF and not flavorful at all. I used to love their regular menu items, but unfortunately their GF food is just not great. Also, thy will only give you 1 GF soy sauce packet at a time and you have to request it. Apparently that is their policy due to cost of gf soy sauce. However, it is nice that they have options for GF so friends and family can enjoy the good stuff.
