    Native Foods Cafe

    4 ratingMay 18, 2013

2453 Park Ave, Tustin, CA 92606

Friendly staff and management. Risk of cross contamination, explained by the manager. I took a risk and got a salad. The Ensalada Azteca salad was good/okay. $9.95, and had a lot of romaine lettuce (filler). I was hungry, and the salad filled the void. I did not get sick at the two-three hour mark afterward, and so I am satisfied. At ordering desk, after explaining for about five minutes that I am very sensitive to gluten because I have Celiac Disease, reading over the menu, hearing there's no guarantee on the lack of cross contam, then ordering, I felt it was a real chore to eat there. The four stars was for the ok salad and the nervousness of eating there.

    5 ratingMay 18, 2013

22022 El Paseo, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688

Have been eating here GF since it opened. The staff are friendly and used to the GF menu. Don't know why that GF menu is on paper, separate from the other non-GF one, but ask for it at the reservation stand when you walk in. Love the pizza and/or the Southwest Salad. Got sick in 2012 one time, after figuring out I was served a regular Pizookie. If having the dessert, be sure to ask for the GF Pizookie, which now comes in a different GF pan.

    Dirty Frank's Hot Dog Palace

    2 ratingMay 17, 2013

    248 S 4th St, Columbus, OH 43215

They do have a lot of gf options but I had a bad experience. I asked for two dogs on gf buns and what I was served were definitely different than the regular buns. However, it wasn't until I was finished that I realized they were just cheap regular wheat flour buns. Why they even had these buns, I have no idea. I soon experienced the signs of ingesting gluten.

    Eats & Treats Cafe

    5 ratingMay 17, 2013

33898 SE Eastgate Cir, Corvallis, OR 97333

Amazing. The entire place is GF so no cross contamination, but nothing tasted GF, it all tasted like regular yummy baked goods! Friendly and helpful staff, knowledgable and informative owner. Very large portions on the sandwiches (none of the usual mini slices of bread) with giant slices of ham and regular sized buns. Had enough leftover sandwiches for dinner. Great cookies, rolls & cinnamon buns. Can't wait to go back!

    District Taco

    3 ratingMay 17, 2013

    1309 F St NW, Washington, DC 20004

I had high expectations for this place after reading some reviews. I go to all the popular Mexican restaurants so I find it easy to give my opinion here. Overall the food was decent, no brilliant flavors or spices mostly salt and pepper. The rice is completely unseasoned white rice, no cilantro or lime. The steak was very plain too, however it was tender. I would give their food 2 stars because it was so bland, but adding 1 star because it did taste fresh and they did accommodate gluten intolerant customers. Their chips and queso are gluten free, not amazing but pretty good. Be careful because some of their salsas have wheat, you should ask which ones. I would rate them below all the major Mexican chains even California Tortilla and Moe's...

    Fogo de Chao

    5 ratingMay 17, 2013

    661 N LaSalle Blvd, Chicago, IL 60654

This is probably my favorite restaurant. My husband and I always take a trip downtown for my birthday so we can have dinner here. Even before I went GF. It is a meat-lover's paradise. They are incredibly accommodating. Just notify your server that you need to eat GF and they send the manager over to let you know what very few things you should not eat. When I went, the only things I couldn't eat were the salad dressings (because they are not made in house and therefore they cannot guarantee their safety), a pasta salad on the salad bar, and chicken that is marinated in beer. EVERYTHING else is safe to eat: HUGE and delicious salad bar (I use balsamic vinegar in place of the dressing), endless amounts of meats, fried polenta, caramelized bananas, mashed potatoes, and best of all the Brazilian cheese bread. In my opinion, this place is simply the best.

100 West Randolph Street, Chicago, IL 60601

Delicious. SO happy I found this place. They're very accommodating! Just tell the checkout person that you have a gluten allergy and they will inform the people preparing the food. They will serve your burger in a lettuce wrap in a separate container. Their fries are gluten-free and thin and crispy and AH-mazing. Bonus: my whole meal (burger, fries, and a pop) was less than $10 bucks - not bad for lunch in the city.

Sweet 27 Gluten Free Bakery and Cafe

    1 ratingMay 16, 2013

    123 W 27th St, Baltimore, MD 21218

If you are looking for a good cake, beware! After reading the mostly positve reviews on this bakery, I ordered a cake for a very special event. Tiramisu is one of my favorites, and I figured a bakery would know what the flavor profiles of this dessert are (coffee, ladies fingers, and ricotta cheese). A friend picked up the cake and brought it to DC. Upon opening the box we discovered a pumpkin cake with cream cheese icing. Thinking they had sent the wrong cake, I called and let them know the wrong cake had been picked up. The individual on the phone, apologized telling me that a manger would call me in the morning to refund my money. After several days calling the bakery trying to get in with a manger, I was told that was the cake and too bad if I did not like it. (I still do not think i got the right cake or else they dont know what a tiramisu cake is). I threw away most of the cake which was to serve 24 ( i had a party of 40 people) since it was not a good cake - pumpkin, carrot whatever. As an individual with celiac i have stomached through a lot of bad gluten free products but this was one of the worst cakes i have ever had. I'm never going back, nor will anyone I know! In the end it was a bad cake, with VERY BAD customer service.

    Berkeley Bowl

    5 ratingMay 16, 2013

920 Heinz Avenue, Berkeley, CA 94710

Berkeley Bowl is an awesome huge local grocery store with a plethora of amazing gluten-free packaged items. They have frozen, shelf stable, raw, you name it! Your well known brands (Udi's, Glutino's, Enjoy Life) as well as crazy new stuff. Most of it is made in gluten-free facilities and/or certified GF (but of course always check). And, best of all, their exhaustive produce section can't be beat. Local, organic, 6 types of navel oranges? They have it! I prefer this location ("Berkeley Bowl West") for the broader selection, larger aisles, easier parking, and cleaner store, but the original store is also great.

Glutened here immediately. Knew it after a few bites. They don't do anything to prevent cross contamination (they warned me not to get the toast or GF pancakes, etc) so I got the hot buckwheat, but was so sick anyway. Should have trusted my instincts and not eaten here at all. 100% not safe for celiacs. Go to Chaco Canyon Organic Cafe instead, they are awesome: separate prep areas and safe delicious food.

    Founding Farmers

    2 ratingMay 16, 2013

1924 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20006

My experience here has been VERY mixed. You absolutely have to be diligent. After asking if the dish was gluten-free 3 times, and telling them I was celiac, I was glutened by a dessert item. Manager comp'ed the meal, after telling me there was actually barley malt in it (despite my asking the 3 times...), but I was already sick. Have eaten there numerous times without problems beforehand. The staff ranges from being very careful to being clueless. I hope they can get it together because the food is fresh and delicious. Consistency is needed.

Trader Joes pancakes are filled with crack. I can't believe they are gluten free. Traders have so many options. Ask for a list at customer service.

I ate here last summer and got glutened so bad I was sick for six months. my neighbor who also has celiac disease was extremely sick too. l also have another friend that went more recently and also got glutened. I would avoid this place if you have celiac disease. I have tried to talk to the manager but haven't had any luck with him calling me back. They DON'T have a dedicated area to prepare the gluten free food. Avoid if you have celiac disease.

Do not have a specified gluten free menu but some of the pasta sauces can be done with gluten free noodles. Food was decent but overpriced for the portion size. Not sure about cross contamination issue as I didn't feel great afterwards.

Outstanding food. The seafood chowder deserves 5 stars all by itself. It is so good. The fried scallop/shrimp plate was very very good. All that was missing was the French fries or onion rings. They substituted rice for the fries/rings because they were not fried in dedicated fryer. The waitress was extremely knowledgeable. I would definitely stop here again.

Tried to go here for lunch recently and was told that because of the vinegar used that day there were no safe BBQ sauces and the only side I could have was applesauce. Won't be eating at this place until they change their gluten free menu to include more options.

Went to dinner with family while on a trip. Manger came out and explained not only what I could eat but also how they would prepare the food to ensure I did not get glutened. Was great to know that he was going to prepare it on a separate grill. Said they plan to have a GF menu in near future. Only one down-side...no GF dessert...but not a deal breaker. Would go again in a minute.

Mentioned allergy with reservation (required). Not only made sure I could have something with each course (they serve five), they called back to verify that I could eat certain foods and changed there menu accordingly. Two days later, still no reaction. Chef also took time out to tech to my allergy as he was teaching everyone.

Staff was knowledgable about the allergens, friendly, told me that the staff change their gloves and clean their work stations when someone orders gluten free. I had absolutely no reaction to the sandwich I ate. Also could have ordered on a gluten free bagel.

I have to admit that I never really enjoyed Crave's cupcakes before going gluten-free. I know I'm probably the only person in Houston who feels that way. Their GF cupcakes, however, were GREAT! They have chocolate with either white or chocolate icing. Delicious and very moist.

I had such a fantastic experience here. They brought me gluten free muffins when everyone else had bread. They showed me which sushi was gluten free on our sushi platter, as well as having many naturally gluten free entrees. I got sorbet for dessert which was delicious. And then to my surprise they brought out gf chocolate chip cookies. I've never been so stuffed eating at a restaurant. Great place!
