The waitress insisted that they could do any crepe in their menu GF. We asked about the Oreo crepe and which type of cookies they would use. She talked to the chef and came out with a bag of Oreos - with wheat in them! She insisted that they've had many people with Celiac there and never had a problem. She said they clean their crepe equipment for a GF crepe. After hearing about the Oreos - we didn't have true courage to eat here.

They have Bacon on a stick and it says on the menu board - GF! But when we were there, the bacon on a stick was lying on top of a slice of white bread. #notreallyglutenfree They say all their hot dogs and sausages are GF. But when you watch them cook these "GF" sausages - they hold gluten buns over them and use the same tongs to fill the gluten buns with sausages and then thy put these tongs back in the grill. When I asked the cooks I they were really GF - they had no idea what I was talking about. Had 12 GF dogs in the suite without buns - only cost $96 in the suite for 12 hot dogs (no buns) with a little cup of onions on the side - no joke!

The workers are not knowledgable- at first told us nothing is GF. Then came running back out to show us everything (ice cream) is GF because it says so on their wall. Then looking at their flavors - they had a cookies and cream flavor with Oreo cookie pieces in it - so that one wasn't GF!!! They have an ingredients book - but it was difficult finding some flavors.

They have safe GF options and quite a few including desserts. Their cheese bread is what they serve everyone and it is GF. Only complaint is that they have no desserts that are Nut Free safe. They make all their desserts in the same area and there are nuts. The manager told us she wouldn't feel safe serving any of their desserts to someone with a Tree Nut allergy.

I'm downgrading my rating of this restaurant. We have eaten at this restaurant many times without issue - but recently, that changed. They have no options for children. Sometimes, we've ordered GF Mac and cheese. Typically the noodles are crunchy - but my child still likes the cheese sauce. They switched waitresses after we got our drinks because our waitress was being sent home (she was very nice and helpful). The new waitress seemed ok but not as friendly. We explained that my child has Celiac and Ordered GF Mac and cheese. The meal was ready faster than normal (but the first waitress had asked the kitchen to start booking a pot of water immediately when she took our drink order). My child ate the Mac and cheese and a few minutes later needed to throw up (which is his symptom when he is badly glutened). I asked the waitress if the Mac and cheese was GF and she immediately said yes and said that the sauce probably didn't agree with him. The manager came over and said for sure the pasta was GF. My son vomited every 15-20 minutes for 3 hours - his reaction to a non GF meal. I think it wasn't GF and I find it strange that the waitress was so quick to blame the sauce.... If you order something that is not on the menu- ask to speak with the manager first! This restaurant needs a couple of GF dessert options (without nuts) in addition to some kid friendly GF options on their GF menu.

Almost everything on their menu can be made gluten free - they have GF Pizza, GF sub rolls, GF bread, GF Wraps, milk shakes, etc... Everything tasted great!! They do NOT have GF fries or chicken wings because they do not have a dedicated fryer. I especially liked the Reuben I ordered. The sub rolls are phenomenal. They use Boars Head meats and cheeses. The owner said he has family members with Celiac and knows how difficult it is to eat out with Celiac which is why he offers GF and is very careful. The restaurant is extremely clean. This place is a gem on the island - ESP. for those eating GF!

1100 El Jobean Rd. #128, Port Charlotte, FL 33948

This restaurant says on their website that this restaurant is not recommended for people with Celiac. That means it is not gluten free. They are catering to the fad dieters and people that are gluten sensitive but can still tolerate a little bit of gluten. They should not be allowed to call this food gluten free - low gluten would be a better more upfront terminology.

  • Emeril's Orlando

    4 starsDecember 25, 2014

    6000 Universal Boulevard #702, Orlando, FL 32819

We dined at this Universal location 3 years ago. This was the only place we could find back then that could handle GF for people with Celiac. Since then, Universal has many more options including inside their theme parks. Since Emeril has a daughter with Celiac and another with gluten intolerance, I guess I expected a bit more from his restaurant this time. There was no gluten free menu not gluten free indications on the menu. The waiter offered to run interference between us and the chef to find out if our selections were GF. This did work ok. There was only 1 option in a kids portion that could be made GF. There was no GF bread. No GF fries (not even in a frying pan) because they apparently pre-blanch their fries in the grease it sounded like. When we ordered dessert, we reminded the waiter that the crime brûlée needed to be GF and said please don't bring the shortbread cookie with the dessert. Well, both GF creme brûlée's came with shortbread cookies. When we pointed this out to the waiter, I had the feeling that he was just going to take the creme brûlée's off the plates and give them to us. I explained that if any crumbs fell into the creme brûlée's it would be a health problem. He complied by bringing new creme brûlée's- but he didn't seem happy about this. For as upscale as a restaurant as Emerils is and given the fact that Emeril should know first hand how difficult it is for people with Celiac to dine out, I expected this experience to be better. The food was delicious (except the scallops that were extremely gritty - waiter told me I must be mistaken and that the grittiness was probably from the quinoa. It wasn't from the quinoa at all - it was the scallops. They brought a new dish of short ribs which were super delicious!!). This restaurant can handle a person with Celiac so I'm rating the restaurant a 4 - but be aware what you are being served and if something doesn't look right, ask. Our particular dining experience was more like a $200 3 star meal for 4 people.

    1 starsJuly 16, 2014

I've downgraded my rating because they have a new menu where they list steak fries and sweet potato fries as GF. When we asked if they have a dedicated fryer - the answer was no. They also list Guernsey ice cream on their menu as GF. Last time I talked to Guernsey, they said none of their ice creams are gf because they don't clean their lines in between flavors. The new Aubrees menu is confusing!! We ordered the gf Mac and cheese and I asked if the server could check with the chef to ensure they still boil a pot if new water - the server checked with the cook and replied that they use the same water as they do for all the other pasta with gluten!!! He said the cook said that they make sure the water is boiling to ensure everything (the gluten) is killed. We discussed these points with the manager and he said he would address these issues. This is not gluten free - not safe for people with Celiac.

    2 starsMay 06, 2014

37701 Six Mile Road, Livonia, MI 48152

There was no menu (gf). When we asked at the restaurant for one, the server told us to go online. Our phones kept jumping to the mobile site and we could find the GF menu. I asked the hostess - she said, of course we have one. I'll find one and bring it to you. After about 15 minutes, she never showed up. When we asked again, she said - to check online... We asked for a manager who brought over an electronic tablet and he tried to pull it up. He eventually got it but it was different than their online one I had seen at home. He explained thy changed it... I had seen to order burgers without red robin seasoning - they had this seasoning on the table (didn't appear have gluten in it). The server took our order but forgot the cheese for the burger. When we asked for a piece of GF cheese, it came to the table full of black crumbs ( like someone had dirty gloves on) - not sure if these crumbs were GF or not. The manager had told us our food would arrive separately from everyone else's, but it did not - on the same tray as everyone else's. One of us got sick after this meal and one didn't. The silverware was dirty as were the salt and pepper shakers. Not a real good feeling about dining GF here again.

Pizzeria dine in area is small but worth the wait. They have a menu listing all ingredients that are GF. Pizza was tasty and was fine for the Celiac people in our group. They advertise their ingredients as Organic. They have 2 GF pizza sizes - small (10") and large (14"). 10" GF pizza with 2 toppings was $18, 1 topping was $17. A non-GF 10" pizza with about 5 toppings (American Pizza) was $13. So the up charge for GF is significant.

The Dinner food was fabulous - for us non GF folks. For the GF kids in our party - the server offered 2 options for dinner - short ribs or chicken. They wanted neither. After some probing of our server, he was willing to see if chef maybe had some GF pasta (which he did). Kids had gf pasta and sauce. The chef did NOT come to our table like we are used to at wonderful Disney restaurants. They seem to have a lot more GF options for adults - but adult prices. My meal was $47 and certainly was not the most expensive. Breakfast was a little better - kids were able to get GF pancakes, bacon, hash browns and eggs. The breakfast chef did not come out but the server was willing to run back and forth asking options and answering our questions.

This restaurant has a lot of GF options but they need to be more clear what is GF and not GF. We were told the chips on the table are GF - but it would be nice to see that listed on the menu. Our waitress told us that fries were GF but then later came back to tell us she was mistaken. If they have a dedicated fryer - I don't understand why they could make fries in that GF fryer. Some food was tasty. Anyone who got steak in their tacos/enchiladas didn't like the steak because it was lumpy and chewy. For dessert, they offered 2 GF options. We ordered one of them but then noticed that this option was not on the GF menu (like the fries weren't). The waitress insisted that the dessert was GF - she said she has worked there for 4 years and should know (but she didn't know the fries weren't). We were nice about it and chose to have the person with Celiac to just eat the ice cream (which came in a separate dish) but had the non celiac person eat the rest. We didn't complain. We have just been burnt by unknowledgable servers in the past at various restaurants and the consequences are too great. What I didn't like is that the waitress kept coming over to try and convince us that she was right - to the point of embarrassment in front of our friends. She even showed us that it listed as GF on the bill.

I'm giving this a 4 because they did a great job gluten free wise. Paul, the manager, was fantastic - he understood allergies and ensured we were taken care of. For the restaurant overall I'd give the restaurant a 3. We were at Fogo de Chao in Washington DC 6 months ago and their restaurant was much better. I felt like the restaurant in Chicago skimped a bit - the meat didn't come to our table as frequently and we ordered Caipirinha and we were asked if we wanted the premium / smoother version and we said no - just regular. There was not much alcohol in the ones we received. One of us lived in Brazil and knows how they should taste. They were perfect in Washington. For a $200 meal for 4, it should be perfect,

Exceptional burgers, fries (in peanut oil), hot dogs. As soon as you tell them you are GF they will tell you they will change their gloves. They have a fries only fryer. And they have 2 grills - 1 for buns and 1 for meat. You can bring your own buns.

We were assured that they could handle GF. We are there and they served mashed potatoes. I asked if they were GF and the server confirmed yes. They had a white sauce on them and I asked about the sauce. He said - Gluten Free! After taking a bite full, he came flying out of the kitchen to say that the sauce was not GF! So, I would say they need to better educate their staff on GF. It was expensive but tasty. No other mishaps.

Not recommended for people with Celiac. This restaurant had a GF menu on their website and we were excited to go because they advertised having GF sushi. The GF menu at the restaurant was slightly different than the one online. We ordered 4 things off their GF menu. The first was a fillet with French Fries. The nice waitress immediately informed us that the filet is marinated in soy sauce and therefore not GF. After ordering, they came back to tell us that one of the sushi items from the GF menu wasn't really GF either. Then they told us that the fries from the GF menu were not really GF - but they couldn't tell us why. I'm guessing fryer cross contamination?? They assured us the rest would be GF - but at this point we had a very uneasy feeling. We asked to pay for our drinks and cancel our meals. The manager came over to apologize and tell us that they hadn't updated their GF menu and there were many problems since their main menu changed. He gave us our drinks for free. We didn't eat there. We won't be going back. We were at least thankful that they were honest about things not being GF.

The GF Pizzas are assembled right next to the non GF dough stretching station. While they were on 2 separate tables, we were concerned about the flour in the air - and we did see flour in the air. Also the GF ingredients were stacked up in bins. The guy making the GF pizza spread sauce on from a seemingly dedicated container - however, passed the pizza to the next guy who was making non GF pizza to have cheese put on. They used a cookie sheet for the GF pizza which was good. The concerns listed above made us afraid to try the GF pizza.

This restaurant was really great. Only fries cooked in 100% peanut oil (nothing else fried in the oil). Hebrew National Franks - GF. They have 2 grills - 1 dedicated to buns and 1 dedicated to meat. Had bunless hot dogs and fries. Very good. Manager was very careful and changed his gloves for us.
