About Me

I was diagnosed in 2004. My husband is also celiac and was diagnosed in 2011. We are reasonably sensitive and don't eat out nearly as often because so many restaurants these days are on the gluten-free fad diet money train and it's not as safe to eat out as it was several years ago.

  • Akira Sushi

    1 starsJuly 25, 2014

1222 Soquel Ave, Santa Cruz, CA 95062

Loved the gluten free menu. The fish was not fresh at all. It had a really weird look and didn't look like any sashimi we've ever eaten and we eat a lot of sashimi. We didn't eat most of our order...

  • Tae's Edo Sushi

    5 starsJuly 20, 2014

    13271 Highway 9, Boulder Creek, CA 95006

Recent change of ownership. Great place now! Excellent sashimi and very reasonably priced. Quite a few roll options in addition to sushi and sashimi. They are very accommodating and will make substitutions when they can.

  • Highland Stillhouse Pub

    1 starsJuly 20, 2014

    201 S 2nd St, Oregon City, OR 97045

CELIACS BE WARNED. They advertise on their menu that all of their fried food (like fish and chips) can be made gluten-free. It's a shared fryer and the waitstaff is grossly uneducated. They said it was Ok because they scoop the crumbs out of the oil first... Super disappointed. We didn't feel comfortable eating anything after the waitress explained gluten free to us so we sat and watched everyone else eat. Sadly, this place is owned by a physician who is apparently trying to capitalize on this 'diet fad'

  • Squatters Pubs and Beers

    5 starsJune 24, 2014

776 Terminal Dr, Salt Lake City, UT 84101

Tons of GF, vegetarian and vegan options on the menu! They have Udi's buns as well. Everything is clearly marked which is really nice and the waitress knew the GF sides well. Really great sit down restaurant in SLC airport - Terminal C between gates C5 & C3

  • Tony & Albas

    4 starsJune 18, 2014

226 Mt Hermon Rd, Scotts Valley, CA 95066

    Great GF pizza and pasta!

  • The Santorini Wine & Beer Garden

    1 starsJune 18, 2014

20490 Saratoga A Los Gatos Road, Saratoga, CA 95070

This restaurant DOES NOT have a gluten free menu nor do they have gluten free beer as they posted in their own review. BEWARE!

  • The Basin

    3 starsApril 28, 2014

14572 Big Basin Way, Saratoga, CA 95070

I have historically given The Basin 5 stars - unfortunately I'm dropping that to a 3 based on our last few experiences which were so-so. Great seasonal menu and the food is really good but we've noticed lately that the portions are getting smaller and the prices are increasing ($29 for chicken?). They are very familiar with gluten free and they have always been very accommodating as most everything is naturally gluten-free or can be with substitutions - again something has changed because we didn't get any sides with our last entrees and you would think they could find a side or two to substitute... The wine list is still exceptional.

  • Edo Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar

    4 starsJanuary 01, 2014

    13271 Highway 9, Boulder Creek, CA 95006

Sashimi and sushi are pretty good but a little inconsistent at times. They have San-J GF soy sauce. There aren't a lot of rolls that are GF but they do have small avocado, tuna and cucumber rolls and a few others. They are very accommodating so I'm sure they can make other rolls GF. They also have gluten free spring rolls, soup and fried rice.

  • Charlie Hong Kong

    2 starsNovember 30, 2013

1141 Soquel Ave, Santa Cruz, CA 95062

Tried it once and didnt feel great afterwards. I really wish they would switch to a truly GF soy sauce. Really makes me question their menu when they can't quite understand that the FDA 20 ppm thing doesn't work for a lot of celiacs. They could at least have GF soy sauce as an option...

  • Sent Sovi Restaurant

    5 starsNovember 28, 2013

14583 Big Basin Way, Saratoga, CA 95070

Great French inspired restaurant in Saratoga. It's small, intimate and the seasonal/local tasting menus are absolutely amazing not to mention quite reasonably priced given the quality and culinary experience! They recently opened a wine bar behind the restaurant with great small plate tasting menus. Same great food with a little different vibe ($35 for four courses). We really enjoy both places. The menus are often naturally gluten free or easily adaptable and they have goat and sheep milk options for those intolerant of cow's milk so we can enjoy a cheese course again! Vegetarian option too. They are very accommodating so its always easy to eat there.

  • Etai's Bakery Cafe

    5 starsNovember 13, 2013

Near Gate B24, Denver International Airport, Peña Boulevard, Denver, CO 80249

Love, love, love this place! I wish there were one in every airport.

  • Subway

    5 starsNovember 11, 2013

3200 East Airfield Drive Terminal B, DFW Airport, TX 75261

Awesome! They changed gloves, used clean paper, and knife. Bread comes pre-wrapped. Overall a good experience but they do use the same ingredient boxes so I stayed away from the heavily used ones.

  • Phil's Fish Market & Eatery

    4 starsOctober 03, 2013

7600 Sandholdt Road, Moss Landing, CA 95039

We love this place. There is a lot of fried food on the menu but the world famous Cioppino, steamed artichokes, whole crabs and lobsters are gluten free. There may be other items but we rarely deviate from the things I mentioned. There is a lot of fried food so I assume CC is always a concern. Minus 1 star for price. It's expensive but the portions are huge and can easily be split.

  • Billy's Boston Chowder House

    5 starsOctober 03, 2013

29 E Main St, Los Gatos, CA 95030

Finally made it here and loved it. Great gluten free choices, dedicated fryer, knowledgeable staff. Definitely a winner!

  • Casa de Cobre

    2 starsSeptember 22, 2013

14560 Big Basin Way, Saratoga, CA 95070

Everything in the restaurant is GF except desserts and it is really good. It's all corn based and they make all of their chips and tortillas in house. It's owned by the same person who owns the basin and he is very knowledgeable. Definitely worth checking out if you need a worry free authentic Mexican fix. Like barry said - The margaritas are awesome and worth the trip alone but it is frightfully expensive and you have to pay for sides even with "entrees." Portions are a little small - It's hard for two people to get out under $100...

  • Mikuni

    5 starsSeptember 17, 2013

5001 Northstar Dr, Truckee, CA 96161

We ate here recently while staying in the Village at Northstar. The sashimi and rolls were great and not terribly expensive - especially for the area. They have a gluten free menu with several rolls to chose from and have GF soy sauce available. They also do take out if you are staying in one of the nearby condos and don't feel like going out after a long day. Things have obviously changed since the last review posted here in 2011 because we had a great experience.

  • Tomaato's Restaurant

    5 starsSeptember 17, 2013

120 Country Club Drive, Incline Village, NV 89451

We ordered delivery recently while visiting friends in Incline Village and was pleasantly surprised to find Tomaato's. The have gluten free items marked on the menu. Their GF pizza is excellent as are the salads. I am pretty sure the crust is Udi's. They also accommodate other allergies and special diets such as dairy free and vegan. My husband can't eat cow's milk so they put goat cheese on his gluten free pizza. People are very knowledgable and its easy to order.

  • Earthly Delights

    5 starsSeptember 17, 2013

    3001 N Village Drive, Suite 3106 #3057, Truckee, CA 96161

This is the only 'grocery' in Northstar Village. I was very surprised to find lots of gluten free items like bread, pasta, condiments, cooking ingredients and other necessities there. The owner is very nice and will also sell you items from the deli like meats, fresh vegetables, etc.

  • T's Mesquite Rotisserie

    3 starsSeptember 17, 2013

901 Tahoe Boulevard, Incline Village, NV 89451

We ate here recently while visiting friends. The gluten free options here are limited because the rotisserie chicken is marinated in soy. One of the two flavors looks gluten free but they cook both flavors on the same rotisserie and the drippings cross contaminate. The only options they could offer were the pork or vegetarian soft tacos which were great. I think you can also get a salad with pork that would be GF. It's a small dive place so if you are worried about cross contamination you might want to skip it. We didn't get sick but I can see how easy it would be for things to get CC'd there. Price is great. 3 stars for super limited menu.

  • Rumble Fish

    5 starsAugust 21, 2013

4727 Scotts Valley Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066

We love this place and go there every time we are in the area. They have the best fish in the SC Mountains. I don't think they have GF soy sauce so you have to bring your own but unlike most sushi restaurants they have half a dozen or so rolls that are GF so it's always a treat to go there because we rarely find a place with trustworthy rolls! It's also nice that the menu lists the ingredients.

  • Jia Tella's

    5 starsAugust 21, 2013

18 Victor Square, Scotts Valley, CA 95066

Really good Cambodian. There are lots of gluten free choices (labeled on the menu) - spring rolls, soups, salads, stir-fries and even a 'deep fried' fish that I haven't tried. GF vegetarian options too.

  • Boulder Creek Pizza & Pub

    5 starsAugust 21, 2013

    13200 California 9, Boulder Creek, CA 95006

We go here and love it. I eat here a lot and have never had any issues and I am a pretty sensitive celiac but like most pizza places cross contamination is not completely preventable and they are honest about that but they do try and are knowledgable - they will always check on something when I ask even when I call. The owner is extremely knowledgable and helpful. They have small and large GF crusts, beer and a very good flourless chocolate cake. All of their salads without croutons are GF and some of their wings too. The buffalo blue cheese pizza is not ok because it's fried - I think the other pizzas are all ok but don't take my word without asking.

  • BJ's Brewhouse

    5 starsApril 14, 2013

10690 N. De Anza Blvd., Cupertino, CA 95014

Always had great experiences at this location. The pizza is really great and I know several people who prefer it over their wheat crust because its not so heavy. I also like that the GF pizza is a different shape so I don't have to worry if I have the right food.

  • Asian Box

    5 starsApril 14, 2013

855 El Camino Real #21, Palo Alto, CA 94301

Just Awesome! And unlike most places the hot box is really hot!

  • Risotteria

    4 starsMarch 13, 2013

270 Bleecker St, New York, NY 10014

Nothing to say but it's awesome and I love that they serve Green's beer!

  • Wildfox Restaurant

    4 starsMarch 13, 2013

225 Alameda Del Prado, Novato, CA 94949

I've eaten here about a dozen times and love it. Most of the staff is knowledgable but they don't have a gluten free menu so you have to make a few substitutions for side items but overall great. The filet is awesome. Not sure about desserts but suspect you can only get ice cream.

  • Mary's Pizza Shack

    1 starsMarch 13, 2013

121 San Marin Dr, Novato, CA 94945

I've eaten pizza and salads here three times now and gotten pretty sick all 3 times times...more than just a little CC. I don't think I'll be back any time soon.

  • Zelda's On the Beach

    3 starsFebruary 21, 2013

    203 Esplanade, Capitola, CA 95010

3 stars because they don't have a gluten free menu but you can get steamed mussels and other items including lobster on Thursday nights. Great for summer nights on the beach.

  • Austin Grill

    3 starsDecember 16, 2012

    750 E St NW, Washington, DC 20004

The other locations are great. This one was challenging but I didn't get sick but I didn't have a high confidence level so I ordered pretty basic food to be safe.

  • Legal Sea Foods

    5 starsDecember 16, 2012

1 Harborside Drive, Boston, MA 02128

Best place in the country to get GF food inside an airport. I haven't had any issues with any of the Legal's at Logan. I love their food and never miss an opportunity to eat here when I'm traveling - it's actually worth getting to the airport early.

  • Legal Sea Foods

    5 starsDecember 16, 2012

100 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02116

5 stars because they have such a great GF menu and fried food is always a treat!

  • Skipjack's Seafood Emporium

    5 starsDecember 16, 2012

199 Clarendon St, Boston, MA 02116

We eat here every time we are in town. They have great GF selections and the food is unbelievable.

  • BJ's Brewhouse

    5 starsDecember 16, 2012

925 Blossom Hill Road, San Jose, CA 95123

    Great location. Always positive experiences.

  • P.F. Chang's

    2 starsDecember 16, 2012

Oakridge Mall, 925 Blossom Hill Rd. #1515, San Jose, CA 95123

I have eaten at PF Chang's all over the country for years and never once had a problem or gotten the least bit sick except for this location. We've gotten sick twice here despite our food coming out on the right plates and it wasn't necessarily mild...not sure what they are doing wrong here. The staff and management seems less understanding and knowledgable than expected from a PF Chang's. I agree with one of the other reviewers - the other 2 locations in town.

  • Bloom's Delicatessen

    4 starsDecember 16, 2012

350 Lexington Ave, New York, NY 10016

We enjoyed eating here quite a bit. It's a typical NY deli so nothing fancy but I loved the Reuben and I love that they carry GF bread. The chicken soup and coleslaw are also great.

  • Heartland Brewery Midtown West

    3 starsDecember 13, 2012

    625 8th Ave, New York, NY 10036

Not bad but not great food. It's loud and the service is fast so it's not the place to go if you want to relax and stay a while.

  • S'MAC

    4 starsDecember 13, 2012

    345 E 12th St, New York, NY 10009

The food was great comfort food and its always a treat to have the ability to eat mac n cheese GF without making it yourself. We didn't get sick but as others have mentioned the kitchen is very small and they serve everything in cast iron so I wonder how they know and keep the cast iron pans separate from the gluten pans.

  • Sapphire Grill

    5 starsDecember 13, 2012

110 West Congress Street, Savannah, GA 31401

We had an amazing GF meal here. The staff is friendly and knowledgable and the food is awesome. It's a small place so if you can score a table along the wall you will have a vey nice private meal.

  • Blue Turtle Bistro

    5 starsDecember 13, 2012

    5002 Paulsen St #107, Savannah, GA 31405

We had great GF meals here. Everyone is knowledgable and friendly. Highly recommend eating here if you get a chance.

  • Five Guys

    5 starsDecember 13, 2012

    175 W. Bay St., Savannah, GA 31401

Been to this location 3 times and no problems. If you tell them you have allergies they will be careful.

  • Moe's Southwest Grill

    4 starsDecember 13, 2012

4910 Jimmy Lee Smith Pkwy, Hiram, GA 30141

I've always had good experiences at this location but I do always have to ask them to change their gloves because they usually forget to do it. Can't really say the staff is trained at Moe's so I rely on the website to order.

  • LongHorn Steakhouse

    4 starsDecember 13, 2012

2636 Dallas Hwy SW, Marietta, GA 30064

Good experiences at this location over the years. Just wish they had more menu options.

  • Outback Steakhouse

    1 starsDecember 13, 2012

810 Ernest Barrett Pkwy NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144

Not impressed with this location. I've eaten at Outback's all over the country and never once gotten sick except at this location and the first time it was mild and the second time it was pretty bad so I won't be back. Not sure what they are doing wrong.

  • Ted's Montana Grill

    4 starsDecember 13, 2012

2500 Cobb Pl Ln NW #210, Kennesaw, GA 30144

  • Sally's Gluten Free Bakery

    5 starsDecember 13, 2012

5920 Roswell Rd NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328

I Love! Love! Love Sally's. Awesome cakes and cupcakes and everything is certified gluten free. I only get to go there when I'm in town and wish she shipped to the west coast. Haven't tried her other stuff but I'm sure it's great too.

  • Chipotle

    5 starsDecember 13, 2012

880 De Long Avenue, Novato, CA 94945

Always had great experiences at this location.

  • Toast Restaurant

    1 starsDecember 13, 2012

5800 Nave Dr, Novato, CA 94949

Despite being listed as a gluten free friendly restaurant on yelp with several reviews the staff and management seemed to know absolutely nothing about gluten or what was safe to eat. The waitstaff acted quite annoyed and did not seem to get it at all and didn't even offer to check on items that I asked about that should've been safe so I got a cold salad with dressing on the side. Not pleased at all with our experience there. I didn't eat much at all because I watched them cooking and working in the kitchen and didn't think they could manage to produce a gluten free meal. Plus I didn't feel well afterwards so I won't be back...

  • Chianti Cucina

    5 starsDecember 13, 2012

7416 Redwood Blvd, Novato, CA 94945

Awesome restaurant with great daily gluten free specials and menu. They also carry gluten free pasta. Knowledgable staff and great food.

  • Pleasure Pizza

    4 starsNovember 24, 2012

    800 41st Ave, Santa Cruz, CA 95062

Unfortunately The take out place across the street doesn't carry gluten free slices so you have to go to the sit down restaurant if you want gluten free. The pizza is really good but not the best I've had but it really great after a day at the beach. I watch them cook our pizzas and do wonder about CC though but can't really say I've ever had a problem.
