I have been diagnosed with CD since 1993 and have watched the GF lifestyle become ever so much easier in two decades!
110 W Washington St, Bloomington, IL 61701
I don't live in Bloomington but occasionally shop there, and I was very pleased to discover Michael's in downtown Bloomington. It's a historic old building, and the interior of the restaurant is spacious and relaxing, with pleasant music playing. While there is not a GF menu per sé, the proprietor is knowledgeable and helpful with the menu choices. He has a relative who is GF, and he understands cross contamination issues also. The extensive menu contains many steak, chicken, fish, and pork entrées that can be prepared GF. The pasta offered as a side with many of these dishes can be subbed with rice or potato. There is a nightly dinner buffet and a Sunday brunch buffet that offer great variety. I didn't get the buffet on my first visit, but I definitely would the next time. After looking it over I realized that it offered a number of options that would have been safe for me.We will definitely go back!
1518 Lafayette Parkway, LaGrange, GA 30241
This is a well-known national chain that has a GF menu. While its GF listings are not always kept current with the latest menu changes, it is one chain that even includes its specials (such as its low-cal healthy entrées) on its GF lists. It also lists salad dressings and other details to make sure the GF diner is safe, and the servers have been instructed to note "allergy" on the order so that it gets special attention.
1765 Highway 27 South, Carrollton, GA 30117
This is a place with all fresh ingredients of the highest quality. Most important, the preparers really "get it"! They change to new gloves when preparing a GF order. Although none of their tortillas/wraps are GF, they have a pamphlet that lists all of the ingredients that ARE GF and can be safely (and deliciously) put into a salad bowl or a burrito bowl. There is plenty of variety, and I like knowing that I'm eating fresh, wholesome ingredients like lean meats and veggies.
1101 N Galena Ave, Dixon, IL 61021
While in Dixon for business travel, my husband and I found the Galena Steak House by simply stumbling across it. We were thrilled to learn that it offers a GF menu. Not only is the menu varied and accommodating, but it even boasts a GF bun (for sandwich menu items) and GF pasta for dinner entrées. We found this place to have good food, excellent service, reasonable prices, and a lovely atmosphere. We would definitely go back if our travels took us to Dixon again!
