Autoimmunity. Dedicated facilities only. No casein, please.
18300 Farm to Market Road 1826, Driftwood, TX 78619
Clueless, but kind Not even close to gf. Ok for fad dieters only Cross contamination heavy, no understanding of sourcing, shared equipment, or gluten species vinegars Sitting here watching everyone else eat because it is so out of the way. Smells great. Torture!
2901 S. Capital of Texas Highway, Austin, TX 78746
Worst for cross contamination ever.
596 S Castell Ave, New Braunfels, TX 78130
amazing. sources from Bob's. bakery is super talented. brioche is delicious. if you can't have grains or xanthan, they have grain free and gum free items. <3
303 Pearl Parkway #109, San Antonio, TX 78215
staff is amazing. juices, salads, raw lasagne. tasty and totally safe! some items have certified oats, so watch out for that if you don't tolerate them. hope to see you there! (update: white vinegar in olives. no longer dedicated gluten free. talking to owner) (update 2: Owner is so awesome! He is putting staff on alert and getting a new source for olives. WHat a wonderful place!)
8407 Broadway St, San Antonio, TX 78209
working with owner re: issues like vinegar and sourcing from the always risky Trader Joes. they use guar gum, not xanthan. That means milder gummy tummy problems! I won't be eating here for now, but the staff is great.
3016 Guadalupe St #200, Austin, TX 78705
the bread has too much xanthan for my gummy tummy. calamari and tamales with ranchero sauce were superb!!!! felt safe and appreciated. UPDATE 9/9 PM: so tired that I could barely drive back to San Antonio at 4pm. About to this up. Absolutely got glutened here. update: no one ever called me back about their sourcing and vinegar. boo! UPDATE 9/9: I see Heinz ketchup.. . eeeeep! no white vinegar, even if it meets upcoming fda guidelines for gluten free. no no no. going to talk to the owner about this and other sourcing issues.
3610 Avenue B, San Antonio, TX 78209
looks like they use icky xanthan gum (laxative!) and cheap flours. not sure if flours are made on shared equipment or in shared facilities, but they are not recognized brands or from regulated countries (CA, AUS, UK, EU). very disappointed. not interested. :(
5800 Broadway St, San Antonio, TX 78209
too much cross contamination potential to be safe
4821 Broadway St, San Antonio, TX 78209
I get by here, but all their gf stuff has icky gums in it. I say NO to gummy tummy!
606 W Cypress St, San Antonio, TX 78212
a selection of gf beers, but forget eating anything. divey with a huge beer garden. Wendy at the bar is great - she knows the flavor profiles of all the gf beers! gig certification is such a joke. the staff in the kitchen were clueless
218 North Cherry Street, San Antonio, TX 78202
sweet staff but there's a TON of gluten in this kitchen. I got hit - hard. update: I was sick for days.
100 E Grayson St, San Antonio, TX 78212
shared facility and equipment. no thanks.
2206 S Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78704
who would risk t cell lymphoma, infertility, and osteoporosis for a pizza made in a shared facility? not it!!
212 West Crockett Street, San Antonio, TX 78205
UPDATE 8/14, 2013: kitchen staff awareness and cross-contamination practices have gone down hill. I got so sick that I ended up in urgent care, and the chef wanted to argue with me about where I got glutened. Not returning. UPDATE 9/8: lost 7 lbs from this, and now I'm back to not being on the BMI chart. :( 2012: very cool staff. exec chef's wife is celiac. ask for dedicated equipment. delightful people and superb food.
255 E. Basse Rd, Ste 130 San Antonio, TX 78209
staff thinks that dedicated facilities are a requirement for a gf label... all that I've talked to. too much stuff with xanthan (gummy tummy) and white vinegar (gross + reaction). not a viable grocery option for gf peeps
125 East Houston Street, San Antonio, TX 78205
trying oysters with just lemon. we will see how it goes. staff did not go out of their way to explain their practices to keep me safe. fingers crossed!!!
502 E River Walk St, San Antonio, TX 78205
nice staff. no way I'd eat here. no dedicated equipment. they just rasp the grill. eeeek!
15900 LaCantera Pkwy. Bldg. #1, Suite 1100, San Antonio, TX 78256
Katie is doing a great job of taking care of me at the bar. good management means great training. nice, happy staff!! avoid the gf pot sticker sauce. it has white vinegar that would be illegal to call gf in all regulated countries except the USA.
200 E River Walk St #100, San Antonio, TX 78205
Redbridge beer (woo!), but food has shared equipment. so close!
1017 N Flores St, San Antonio, TX 78212
Chris is sweet. the place isn't a dedicated facility, but they do use some dedicated equipment. may not be using certified ingredients. more than one star just for being nice and well on the way to 'getting it."
255 East Basse Road #1200, San Antonio, TX 78209
I was warned off this location. lots of turn over means poor training. heard some complaints about planted noodles (poisoning gf diners).
942 Stanford Avenue, Oakland, CA 94608
Great to see the food cart graduate to a permanent spot!
1730 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley, CA 94709
update may 2013: everything including gluten containing baked goods are now made on site. this kitchen is now f'ed, and I feel like I just lost an 8 year friendship. this was my only safe spot in the east bay for years. I'm so sad. March 2013: once upon a time, cafe gratitude in Berkeley segregated the one gluten item in the kitchen to a dedicated cutting board. this was the one place in the east bay besides pf changs where I felt safe. now that the cafes operate more independently, contaminated tortillas and lax kitchen practices are making people sick. and, the staff is nothing like it used to be. I trust Matt's location in Santa Cruz, and I'm not coming back to the Berkeley location.
3601 Grand Avenue, Oakland, CA 94610
I'd call ahead and ask for chef Nate to handle your order exclusively. cross contamination and staff awareness can be an issue. over heard hurtful negative staff comments on gluten free patrons. not planning to return
821 B St, San Rafael, CA 94901
drove all the way from Oakland. non gluten free staff lacked knowledge of store screening, labeling regulation, or empathy for why I might need to know if the store had changed policies (e.g. looked like there were some shared facility items now rather than only dedicated). so disappointing and off putting. heading to Safeway.
400 Walnut St, Redwood City, CA 94063
gluten free offerings, staff training, and cross contamination prevention are a no-go.
855 El Camino Real, Palo Alto, CA 94301
read the fine print. not gluten free, and makes people sick.
2450 Park Boulevard, Palo Alto, CA 94306
doesn't actually have dedicated kitchen space, just gf paddles for a shared oven. high risk of cross contamination. bummed!!
880 Santa Cruz Ave, Menlo Park, CA 94025
cross contamination plus tons of xanthan gum made me a mess for weeks. bummed.
855 El Camino Real #130, Palo Alto, CA 94301
got me sick, and chef was unresponsive to my letting them know. bummer.
535 Ramona Street, Palo Alto, CA
will absolutely get you sick. student 'nutritionist' who came up with the menu is too arrogant to listen to feedback about obvious gluten filled ingredients on the menu that make people ill.
167 Hamilton Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94301
update3: got sick for days! update2: I was up all night with itchy skin and upset stomach from crosscontamination. this means I have a week of depression and up to three weeks of fatigue in the mail. update: Now has dedicated equipment or prep area. manager is awesome and open to your kind feedback. may not be for everyone, but they are open and compassionate. they value us. that counts for a three star bump! stuff to be skeptical of: airborne flour all over the kitchen. udi's bread with icky xanthan gum giving you gummy tummy, corn tortillas made off site, nuts and berries not certified. shared grill.
1885 University Ave., Berkeley, CA 94703
this chain has a flippant disregard for your safety. the items marketed to us have no quality and safety oversight for gluten contamination.
270 Lorton Ave, Burlingame, CA 94010
sf soup company's safety standards are terrible. no way I'm eating here. clueless but will swear up and down their owners are gluten free. no idea how to prep safely or what are high risk ingredients (bacon, vinegar, blue cheese, etc.) very sad when I see places like this are legal here and illegal in the UK -- as they should be.
129 Ellis Street, San Francisco, CA 94102
called to check on dedicated equipment and dedicated kitchen space. front desk totally BSed me on their safety standards. I asked some specific questions about what types of equipment were designated for gluten free items and the 'I'm not the chef' back pedaling began. so sad. I'll never risk eating here!
301 McLellan Dr., So. San Francisco, CA 94080
flippant disregard for safety of gluten free customers. misleading labels. products are not safe.
6 Petaluma Blvd. North, A5, Petaluma, CA 94952
called ahead about dedicated gluten free equipment and was optimistic. I was a little hungry and on edge coming in. fingers crossed, but there is A LOT going on in the kitchen. sounds like they understand cross contamination, but still... some of the ingredients are very high risk for GF and CF guests (capers, cow milk, blue cheese, vinegar, chorizo, smoked ham, olives, etc.)
3790 US Highway 395 S, Suite 401, Carson City, NV 89705
blatantly avoids safety standards, so nothing from TJs is safe. they know and don't care.
606 Trinity St, Austin, TX 78701
points for having Redbridge. wouldn't eat here.
2512 Rio Grande Street, Austin, TX 78705
very safe, authentic or fusion. A+++++++
619 Congress Ave, Austin, TX 78701
great staff. no way burgers are safe from cross contamination. sad face. I'm hungry! onion rings fried separately in a fryer NOT next to the GF fryer. awesome! no GF condiments at all. *damn it*
407 Colorado St, Austin, TX 78701
never trust a place that serves Daura. totally botched my breakfast first day of sxsw. I'll be sick for three weeks including three days where I may be unable to attend sxsw. such a bummer!! staff was nice, though.
142 Castro Street, Mountain View, CA 94041
excellent, fast, and worry free. beef with tamarind sauce is epic.
841 S McGlincy Ln, Campbell, CA 95008
Unresponsive to my request about the use of icky xanthan and guar gums.
136 Stanford Shopping Center, Palo Alto, CA 94304
2400 Charleston Rd., Mountain View, CA 94043
"GF" offerings are anything but. Avoid eating here unless you don't care about getting sick.
4800 El Camino Real, Los Altos, CA 94022
Good for GFCO items in a pinch, but they need to apply rigorous standards to what they carry on shelves that is labeled "gluten free." We need parody with EU/UK labeling and catering laws.
590 Showers Dr., Mountain View, CA 94040
Irresponsible use of "no gluten ingredients." So misleading for the newly diagnosed. They know about these issues, and they refuse to test their products for safety. It's disappointing, and many of us shop at independent stores that care about our community like Sans.
1350 Grant Rd, Mountain View, CA 94040
Cross-contamination. I found no safe options here. Disappointed and hungry.
790 Castro St, Mountain View, CA 94041
Horrible cross contamination and so much xanthan gum cramping that I had to stay home from work 2 days. So irresponsible! They were alerted to these issues over 3 years ago.
164 South B Street, San Mateo, CA 94401
"WHILE THESE ITEMS ARE GLUTEN FREE, OUR KITCHEN IS NOT EXCLUSIVELY GLUTEN FREE. WE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO AVOID CROSS CONTAMINATION, BUT THAT CANNOT BE GAURANTEED. GUESTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO CONSIDER THIS INFORMATION TO THEIR OWN SATISFACTION IN LIGHT OF INDIVIDUAL NEEDS AND REQUIREMENTS"
575 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94105
chef Francisco will use dedicated equipment if you give him 24 hours. otherwise, don't eat here. chef Francisco is amazing, though!!!
855 El Camino Real #21, Palo Alto, CA 94301
great food. great price. dedicated safety. so much flavor!!
1224 Arroyo Ave, San Carlos, CA 94070
Love them! Great service, low xanthan gum, and super well priced. The food is excellent!!!
555 9th Street, San Francisco, CA 94103
Terrible that they use the gluten to market without any standards. If you are on a medical diet, shop elsewhere until they change their policies, please.
1800 Old Bayshore Hwy, Burlingame, CA 94010
Not using UK/EU standards. Would rather they were not promoting products of such low quality and perpetuating the poor standards in our unregulated environment.
5427 Telegraph Ave, Oakland, CA 94609
A painful amount of xanthan gum. I'll pass.
401 Valencia St, San Francisco, CA 94103
A great, dedicated place with tasty food and a kick-back atmosphere. I always feel welcome and well fed!
