About Me

gluten sensitive, mildly allergic to dairy and cane sugar. I'm a foodie and love restaurants so it's challenging!

  • Abol Ethiopian Cuisine

    5 starsJanuary 20, 2015

8626 Colesville Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20910

Gluten free injera is quite good - not too sour like some versions. Food was awesome.

  • Roti

    4 starsJanuary 20, 2015

    955 L'Enfant Plaza SW, Washington, DC 20024

Their gf pita is delicious. They wrap in foil to avoid cross contamination. All menu items except regular pita and falafel are gf. Always tasty.

  • The Heights

    4 starsJanuary 20, 2015

    3115 14th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20010

Have Omission lager. When I asked for burger without bun, they asked if I had an allergy, then informed me that fries are cooked in same oil, so the servers are clearly educated. Delicious food.

  • Busboys and Poets

    5 starsJanuary 20, 2015

    1025 5th St NW, Washington, DC 20001

Very reliably delicious. Went for brunch and got Mekhleme, an Iraqi dish with eggs, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and spices. Delicious. This local chain clearly marks regular menu with GF symbol, though not brunch menu. They were happy to check with chef on dishes for me the first time I came, so I ordered the same thing this time around. Most brunch items come with toast, and as a non-celiac I didn't bother alerting them not to include it this time - I simply didn't eat it. It wasn't a problem on my first visit asking them to leave it out, and I'm pretty sure they let me sub for fruit. they're very knowledgeable and cater to special diets (vegan, etc.)

  • Nellie's Sports Bar

    4 starsJanuary 20, 2015

    900 U St NW, Washington, DC 20001

I always get the arepa because it's naturally gluten free, and delicious. The service here isn't always great (I go here a lot to watch games and know what to expect), so I'm not sure how they'd do with celiacs, but as a non-celiac I do fine if I stick with what I know is ok for me to eat. They also have Omission pale ale.

  • Pete's Apizza

    4 starsApril 11, 2014

1400 Irving St NW #103, Washington, DC 20010

My combination of allergies makes it so that Pete's is the only place I've found that makes pizza I'm not allergic to. No cow's milk (goat cheese), no cane sugar and obviously no gluten. I am not celiac so can't speak to cross contamination issues but I find their pizza quite tasty. it's thin and crunchy which is not my favorite but still good. If you're intolerant I recommend it. it's super duper pricey but worth it once in awhile for me considering how much freaking work it is to make my own allergen free pizza.

    1 starsDecember 21, 2013

    1120 19th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20036

no gf menu or allergen list according to waitress. gf soy sauce yes. she assured me an egg noodle dish was gluten free but a reaction plus a quick Google search proved otherwise. incredibly delicious and maybe this waitress was just ignorant so I'd call ahead and ask to see manager.

  • Ping Pong Dim Sum

    4 starsDecember 21, 2013

1 Dupont Circle Northwest, Washington, DC 20036

waitress very helpful in checking with chef on ingredients. dumplings are made with rice as is batter that eggplant is fried in. no gf soy sauce though.

  • Papa Razzi

  • Babycakes NYC

    4 starsApril 12, 2013

248 Broome St, New York, NY 10002

I'm unable to eat gluten, dairy AND sugar cane, so I had given up on ever eating baked goods that I did not make myself. my sister told me not so and in fact I had a decent number of options and the three types of cupcakes I tried were very tasty. a bit muffin like but satisfied my sweet tooth. need to find out how they manage to make their delicious frosting!

  • Stir Crazy

    4 starsApril 10, 2013

4422 Palisades Center Dr, West Nyack, NY 10994

they clearly knew their stuff about gluten free needs and were also able to accommodate my shrimp and sugar cane allergies. I just did the make your own stir fry option to make things easier for myself- they have 3 gf sauce options for that. while I've had better Asian food for a chain it was good.

  • Posa Posa

    4 starsApril 09, 2013
