  • Dalabetta's Muse Coffee & Tea

    3 starsMay 19, 2013

    1629 West 8th Street, Loveland, CO 80537

Dalabetta's Muse has been open at the 8th St location about a year. They bake onsite and were still experimenting with GF bread options the one time I tried lunch. I had a great sandwich though. Mostly, the setting is delightful - an old house on a local sculptor's property. There are art books, funky lamps, and giant coffee cups on the fence posts. Go just for a beverage and a chat. Be surprised by what GF offerings are on that day.

Buffet items are clearly labeled for gluten and dairy. There are two GF bread options - a rice naan and a chick pea pancake. Celiacs should be cautious about cross contamination for the naan because of the baking process. I can't remember if the menu shows GF items clearly since it's been awhile since I went on a non-buffet night. Staff is helpful. They have occasional specials - e.g. rose water marinated lamb chops that were to die for - so go frequently and see what yummy surprise is on offer for that night.

  • The Egg & I

    5 starsMay 19, 2013

2809 South College Avenue, Fort Collins, CO 80525

Egg & I is franchised, so ask at each location what the GF choices are. In my experience, the Fort Collins College Ave location has the most options, but I've been happy with the Fort Collins Oakridge, Loveland and Estes Park locations too. At the one on South College, the pork green chili is GF, so take advantage!

  • Sofia's Bistro

    3 starsMay 19, 2013

1120 North Lincoln Avenue, Loveland, CO 80537

Menu indicates which items are GF or can be made GF by substitution. I love the eggs Benedict on a GF bun. Daily quiche is supposed to always have a GF crust, but I haven't tried it yet. Be clear with staff on your needs. I've had unexpected non-GF sides appear on my plate when I wasn't. They have special menus for events like Valentine's Day, Mothers' Day, etc, so ask ahead then.

  • Chili House

    4 starsMay 19, 2013

    4200 S College Ave #110, Fort Collins, CO 80525

Huge menu segregated by Chinese, Thai, Japanese. Nothing is marked, so ask questions. It is hit or miss with the staff knowledge, but the chefs are willing to work with diners. My go to dish is Pad Thai or rice paper spring rolls off the Thai menu but a friend has been very happy with light sauce choices (dark sauce can't be made GF) off the Chinese menu. Very good soups. Sushi selection is limited, but tasty.

  • The Rustic Oven Restaurant

    3 starsMay 19, 2013

2350 East Harmony Road, Fort Collins, CO 80528

Extensive menu for your dining companions, but I found the GF options limited. I got a GF pizza once for pick up and that was a chore, so I suggest only dining in where you can talk to the wait staff and ask questions. Food is tasty.

  • Dazbog Coffee Store

    4 starsMay 19, 2013

556 North Lincoln Avenue, Loveland, CO 80537

A local chain coffee house similar to the big national ones, but with GF things to eat! My favorite are GF lemon bars, but they also have cookies, muffins and safe granola. Not as many milk choices for lattes as I prefer - ask for current options. Also, the baked goods vary from store to store, but the three I frequent in the Loveland/Fort Collins area all have something on offer every day. Plus is each store also has a room that can be reserved for group meetings.

  • Garlic Knot

    4 starsMay 19, 2013

Menu has GF items flagged. GF pizza is individual size, baked on parchment. I love the hot sandwich with peppers and Italian sausage. Plus is they deliver.

  • Wild Boar Coffee

    4 starsMay 19, 2013

1510 South College Avenue, Fort Collins, CO 80525

Wild Boar has an extensive menu for your dining companions (southwest fare mostly, fancy cakes for dessert), however celiacs will be limited to nachos, some soups, and a wide selection of Gluten Bootin Bakery muffins. They change up the offerings, so always ask for new ingredients. It is a large, busy coffee house across from campus, so parking and seating are tight, but it's worth it.

  • Uncle's Pizzeria & Co.

    3 starsMay 19, 2013

120 W. Olive St. Fort Collins, CO. 80524

Ask questions. There are paper menus, but a lot of the menu is actually on chalkboards up on the walls as food offerings are seasonal. GF pizza is a good size for two people. Wait staff can advise on sauces and toppings, e.g. I was warned not to get a salad that contained blue cheese because of the brand they use. For companion diners, there are wonderful pasta dishes and calzones available in addition to pizza. Has a small bar as well.

  • Fiona's Deli

    5 starsMay 19, 2013

1001 East Harmony Road, Fort Collins, CO 80525

GF bread option for sandwiches. Standard is to use a separate frying pan on top of the grill for hot sandwiches, but verify on your visit. Also, be cautious with sandwich choices, e.g. the pastrami is not recommended for celiacs, but ok for gluten intolerant folk. There are several flourless brownie flavors and other GF desserts such as chocolate dipped macarones and marshmallow rice crispy bars. Includes a full coffee bar, catering options and decorated cakes, although the only GF choice is flourless chocolate.

  • MAD Greens - Inspired Eats

    3 starsMay 19, 2013

2120 East Harmony Road, Fort Collins, CO 80525

Use caution - it's one of those chains that labels a lot of the protein and dressing options as GF when they still aren't safe for celiacs. Staff is transitory, so don't expect them to know what gluten is, you'll get questionable answers, e.g. ask how the chicken is prepared instead. I also worry about cross contamination from the toppings set up. The dressing chart is handy as it shows lots of allergy aware info.

Menu and reader board indicate GF options. Lots of GF soup choices. GF salads are limited. Ask for GF bread - it comes individually wrapped!

  • Hunan Chinese Restaurant

    5 starsMay 19, 2013

731 East Harmony Road, Fort Collins, CO 80525

Menu items are not marked GF. The owner knows the substitutions and is wonderful to work with. I was less confident about some of the younger staff, especially one who gave me a fortune cookie, soy sauce packets and hot mustard (contains wheat flour) immediately after I said no condiments for my carry out order. Only GF soup is egg drop. Only get steamed rice. Use common sense when selecting which main dish to alter. My favorites are cashew chicken and garlic beef. I tried mu shu pork once, but w/o plum sauce or a pancake substitute, it was too bland and salty. Extra veggies available on request.

  • Granny's Gluten Free Zone

    4 starsMay 19, 2013

    3419 W Eisenhower Blvd, Loveland, CO 80537

New owner has changed the products slightly. More single serve ready to eat items, e.g. Gluten Bootin Bakery muffins and cookies. New mixes and bases for soups, pasta dishes and baked goods. However, they are no longer carrying savory snack type items. Worth exploring often. I've been introduced to new brands there.

  • Arte Pizzeria

    5 starsMay 19, 2013

    1467 W Eisenhower Blvd, Loveland, CO 80538

GF pizza is individual size and baked on parchment. Some sauces and toppings are not GF, so ask questions and choose wisely.

  • The Coffee Tree

    2 starsMay 19, 2013

    210 East 4th Street, Loveland, CO 80537

Low rating is because the only GF food is a pumpkin spice muffin. A small muffin. It is hard to sit and watch a companion eat off the fairly extensive menu of wheaty burritos, bagels and baked goods. Beverages are the usual suspects - coffee, espresso based drinks, chai, tea, Italian soda, fruit juices. I love the Winnie the Pooh latte made with honey.

  • Pourhouse Bar and Grill

    3 starsMay 19, 2013

    124 E 4th St, Loveland, CO 80537

The chefs are willing to work with GF clients, however, that meant going without, e.g. a burger patty and fixings on the plate w/o a bun. I found the food too salty. At the time of my visit, the only GF beer available was Redbridge.

  • Next Door Food & Drink

    5 starsMay 19, 2013

    222 East 4th Street #100, Loveland, CO 80537

Menu indicates which items can be made GF, e.g. leave off the bread or sub veggies for crackers or get a special bun for burgers. Last time I was there, I was told they no longer have a dedicated fryer (very sad because they make excellent corn meal crusted calamari), so celiacs use caution. Only GF beer option is New Planet. In general, the food is very high quality. Also, their pastry chef is GF and creates wonderful desserts that sell out quickly.

  • Henry's Pub

    4 starsMay 19, 2013

    234 East 4th Street, Loveland, CO 80537

Ask for the GF menu. Last time I was there, they'd also indicated which items are safe for celiacs. Some items, such as French fries, are prepared in a manner that encourages cross contamination, so let them know why you are GF and take the recommendations for your needs. Food is classic pub fare.

  • Loveland Coffee

    5 starsMay 19, 2013

    620 E 29th St, Loveland, CO 80538

Loveland Coffee is my go to morning place. I love the GF sweet breads and brownie. They also have GF burritos and local yogurt if you're looking for protein. Reader board always comes with a joke and a daily flavor suggestion. If lattes are your beverage of choice, chose between cow, soy, rice or almond milk.
