Celiac

About Me

Both my son and I are celiac, and do not dabble in gluten at all. We care about cross-contamination, etc.

Gluten Free dinner menu with quite a few choices--shrimp, salmon, 2 beef cuts, chicken, several sides. They had lovely special GF menus to give us, but it's not online, nor any mention of it online, so I had emailed them ahead of time to ask if they had GF food (and they emailed me information). They welcome you to speak with the chef if you need to do that.So we were very pleased about that (we are celiac). My son had filet mignon, which was excellent. My husband (not celiac) had salmon with some type of fruit sauce on top, which was excellent. I had "smoky" chicken, which was so tough and dry I quit eating it, thinking I would have to take it home and try to do something with it to make it edible. The baked potatoes were huge. We're local, and Rachel's has a huge great reputation, but I was disappointed. It was so noisy we had to shout at one another, and I'd just rather not go again.I gave it 3 stars because my guys liked their food.

Great family restaurant where you can get something gluten free with a fairly comfortable assurance. They don't have a GF menu, and the wait staff is not knowledgeable, but the staff is very friendly and is quite happy to talk to the chef about what you would like. I've been here twice, and the chefs seem knowledgeable and very helpful. There aren't a whole lot of options from all the goodies they have in this "down home" restaurant, but you can get something to eat without fear of contamination. I have had a large salad with chicken, and also I've had the sauteed chicken with mashed potatoes (probably "instant") no gravy. This restaurant is located right off I-80 in a place where it's hard to find a GF place, so I recommend it.

Great place to eat! Staff is friendly and also knowledgeable about allergies, salad bar is "clean" without too much concern about cross-contamination. It looks like many of the salad bar fancy options aren't listed as gluten free (such as potato salad), but you can get a decent vegetable/lettuce salad to go with the entree. Their allergy info is very extensive, in a 3-ring binder. It lists menu options for GF, for dairy free, egg free, etc. I had the Smoky Mountain Chicken, which comes with a side and the salad bar. Great meal!

They have a GF menu, but I am nervous when I go here. The menu says that all salads can be served, with meat that has NOT been seasoned, but when I began to ask the server about the fries on one salad, and the buffalo hot sauce on another salad, etc. she did not have a CLUE as to what I was talking about. "Oh, you want meat that hasn't been seasoned, do you?" In answer to my question if the buffalo sauce was GF or not, "well, it depends on if you want it or not. Can you eat buffalo sauce?" I decided to stick with what I had the last time I came: Smothered chicken with garlic potatoes. I have eaten these twice and have not gotten ill. Celiac "friendly", but...be careful!

While this place seemed knowledgeable about GF, my son and I were disappointed with the pizza. With the very thin crust most restaurants have for GF pizza, it's easy to cook it too much; our crust was a little on the burned side and the outer edge was rock hard. BUT I would like to eat here again and choose something else off the menu. They have GF menu with a lot off choices. They also have a GF pazookie, which was excellent for dessert. Great place#

This place was great. GF menu with a large amount of choices. They seemed knowledgeable about celiac. I had chicken breast(huge amount) with bacon and cheese on top, along with NOLA rice and it was so good.

Very happy here! They have a nice GF menu, seemed very knowledgeable, and...the food was great. Even the salad bar seemed safe, with the gluten items at the end of the line. I had a chicken breast with cheese, mushrooms, and bacon on top, along with salad bar and baked potato. Yum!

Disappointed. The items they had for celiacs were things like meat without the seasonings. So yes, you can find something to eat here while you're traveling, but I wouldn't choose to come here for a night out.

There are a few things here, but not much. Some prepackaged salads, fruit, and boiled eggs. Hormel chili that you can microwave there. Ice cream. I managed.

Locally, this is the place we go to get GF pizza. We think it's great! I do worry about cross-contamination, but we have not gotten ill here. 10" available with any toppings you want.

This is a large and busy tourist restaurant advertising "authentic PA Dutch Cooking." I didn't think they would have GF, but when I called, the girl who answered the phone was herself GF. She said she eats there all the time. She listed a whole line of things to eat there. So we went. The restaurant has 2 ways to eat: "family style" all-you-can-eat with food brought to your table (which you share with strangers) or the "menu dining" like a regular restaurant. We chose the menu option. The waitress knew exactly what GF was, and she gave us a card listing food options--roast turkey, ham, roast pork, fish, sausage were the meats, with a long list of relishes, salads, all vegetables, all fruits, mashed potatoes without gravy...the only disappointment would be no bread and only ice cream for dessert (instead of all the pies). But the ice cream was homemade blackberry. Waitress was very careful to give my husband's on HIS side, away from us GF people, etc. We felt very safe there. (food was OK fare, ice cream fantastic)

We were traveling through and had this place earmarked for GF pizza. We loved it! The waitress and cook seemed to be very knowledgeable about GF; I assume the crust was from the freezer, which came in its own aluminum foil pan. We each got a 10" pizza, with toppings of our choice. The toppings were good, the sauce was good, and we wish we lived closer!

Has GF section with good variety of pkg foods, has GF products throughout (such as soy sauce), & GF in the freezer (bread, waffles).
