About Me

I have a gluten-sensitive daughter who is a vegetarian. I am always looking for restaurants that give her nutritious offerings.

  • Bill Miller Bar-B-Q Inc

    5 starsOctober 17, 2014

    1616 N Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232

Almost everything is gluten-free, bread and desserts withstanding. Brisket, sausage, broiled chicken, sides all safe. The staff seems knowledgeable.

  • Gluten Free Gourmet Foods

    5 starsJune 12, 2014

1111 Carlisle Boulevard Southeast, Albuquerque, NM 87106

It's so nice to find a dedicated gluten-free facility while traveling! The Fudge Mud-Pie was delicious as was the strawberry-shortcake. Only here for dessert, I see that their breakfast/lunch menu includes breakfast burritos, calzones, sandwiches, wraps, salads, pizzas, quesadillas, and desserts. They also have To Go meals of enchiladas, lasagna and noodle or rice bowls. Wonderful. (Hours: M-S, 8:00-6:00; Sunday, 10:00-3:00)

Vegetarian friendly!! Traveling with a vegetarian gluten-sensitive daughter means we eat pizza, pizza, pizza. So nice to find a restaurant that serves breakfast all day, so she can have protein. This place had SO many options she almost couldn't decide what to order. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious.

  • The Counter

    4 starsMarch 10, 2014

30990 Russell Ranch Road, Westlake Village, CA 91362

The server was very helpful, but ordering took FOREVER, because the menus had been updated and the gluten-free menu was out of date. There was not a vegetarian option for a burger because the veggie patty was not gluten-free.

  • McAlister's Deli

    5 starsJanuary 11, 2014

18402 US Highway 281 North, San Antonio TX 78259

One of our favorite places for a simple meal. We particularly like the baked potatoes. The salads are huge and easily made gluten-free. No gluten-free sandwich options, but my non Celiac family has difficulty deciding because there are so many good choices.

  • Rome's Pizza

    5 starsAugust 26, 2013

19298 Stone Oak Parkway, San Antonio, TX 78258

Love it! The only problem gluten intolerant people will have is choosing what to eat. The pizza is very good, but there are also sandwiches. I always feel like we should go more often so I can try everything. Also good for vegetarians.

Good burgers and chicken sandwiches. They even had a portabella burger for my vegetarian daughter! Interesting fries. The sweet potato fries with Nutella? Yum! The staff was not particularly knowledgable, but the manager assured me they were new, and were being trained. The fryer is used only for potatoes and corn chips, but they did not understand the question of a dedicated fryer. A Gluten-free meal is possible, but watch for cross-contamination with the mayonnaise. In addition to gluten-free buns, they have Udi's bagels and chocolate chip cookies.

  • The Happy Tart

    5 starsAugust 01, 2013

2307 Mt Vernon Ave, Alexandria, VA 22301

Oh my gosh, how can I add anything new to what has been said except to say that the Nutella Strudel, Eclairs, Cheesecake Brownies, vanilla salted-caramel cupcake, chocolate-chip cookies and the chocolate ganache tart were fabulous. Two college aged boys looked embarrassed when I asked if they had to eat gluten free. "It's just so good," one of them said.

  • Austin Grill

    5 starsAugust 01, 2013

801 King St, Alexandria, VA 22314

Austin Grill is fabulous. We live in Texas and cannot find restaurants that make gluten free enchiladas. Here there were TWO options! My daughter is also a vegetarian and this place had options for vegetarian gluten free eating. We highly recommend this adorable eatery.

  • Qdoba

Except for the Barbeque Sauce, brownies and potatoes, it's all safe.

  • Red Robin

    3 starsJune 13, 2013

    1750 N Loop 1604 E, Ste 102, San Antonio, TX 78232

Three stars for a gluten-free bun, but the staff awareness was abysmal. First the host gave me the Gluten-Free Menu which was enormous! Turns out it was just the take out menu. A simple mistake, which would not warrant mention if not for the other problems. There is not a dedicated frier, so ALL the fries are possibly contaminated. The server AND the manager both thought the fries would be safe without Sea Salt. (?) I wanted to order a salad and had questions about that, but the manager cautioned the safety because of strawberries. The server finally admitted she had no idea what gluten is.

  • Cafe Lush

    5 starsDecember 20, 2012

700 Tijeras Ave. NW., Albuquerque, NM 87102

The regular menus have icons that show not only what is gluten-free, but also vegetarian. My daughter is often given one option or the other, but here she actually had several choices. The cafe is quite small, but the food was quite good.

  • Red Brick Pizza

    5 starsDecember 18, 2012

    625 N Main St, Roswell, NM 88201

The staff was great, and the pizza was delicious. We were pleasantly surprised at the cost, because we have grown accustomed to paying a lot for gluten-free pizza. I recommend the Vegetarian Gourmet! Yum.

  • Aldaco's Stone Oak

    5 starsMay 31, 2011

20079 Stone Oak Pkwy, San Antonio, TX 78258

The owner and staff are very knowledgable about gluten intolerance, and have gluten-free options as part of the regular menu. Every Wednesday they have additional gluten-free options available. The safe tortilla chips are delicious and the outdoor dining is a place that I've taken visitors from out of town.

  • Freebirds

    5 starsMay 31, 2011

    20811 U.S. 281, San Antonio, TX 78258

Love this food and love these people. The music is a bit too loud for my taste, but the outside dining is pleasant.

  • Chick-fil-A

    5 starsMay 31, 2011

1555 North FM 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232

This restaurant is always busy and always clean. We like the dedicated fryer for the fries, and the salads are always good with the grilled chicken, but sometimes I grow weary of salads. Sometimes I want hot food. . .

  • Chipotle

    5 starsMay 25, 2011

    1201 N. Loop 1604 W, San Antonio, TX 78258

Dependably fresh and delicious. The whole family enjoys.

  • P.F. Chang's

    3 starsMay 25, 2011

Alamo Quarry Market, 255 E Basse Road Suite 1200, San Antonio, TX 78209

Good for gluten-free. Good for vegetarians. Not good for gluten-free vegetarians. Steamed veggies and brown rice was all they could do.

  • BJ's Brewhouse

    5 starsMay 25, 2011

    22410 U.S. Highway 281 North, San Antonio, TX 78259

This restaurant has taken the time to prepare a pretty decent menu that not only lists the gluten-free items, but also other allergens. They even have gluten-free beer!

  • Cool Mint Cafe

    5 starsMay 25, 2011

415 Burleson St, San Marcos, TX 78666

So good! The gluten-free chocolate dessert is to die for! The gluten-free options were wonderful, and the staff is well informed. But seriously the dessert. . .sooo good!
