About Me

I've been fighting celiac disease most of my life, but was only diagnosed in 200…8, I think. Anyway, I love to crochet, knit, read, and watch movies. I'm also a sports fan. :) I'm hoping someday to be able to visit Soldier Field or the United Center and visit a gluten-free vendor. Here's hoping!

I had the cheesecake with strawberry whiskey sauce topping. It was excellent! I was expecting a large slice, instead I received an entire cheesecake about 6 inches across! The salted caramel hot chocolate was wonderful as well.

The ice cream was fantastic and they had the gluten-free waffle cones (small, but still waffle cones)! They kept them in a back room carefully packaged up away from all the other cones and things. The only thing I wished they had was labels on their chocolates or a list of gluten-free chocolates. The place was hopping, so I didn't feel like I could take up someone's time having them tell me what was safe to buy and what wasn't.

  • Aurelio's Pizza

Recently went in with my aunt and uncle (not gf). When they ordered a salad, our server double-checked to make sure that I was not going to eat it because then they'd have to modify the salad (no croutons, etc.). The pizza was good, despite being a tad burned at the corners (square crusts from Kinnikinnick). My aunt insisted that I get two because they seemed so small according to the description on the menu. I was stuffed after one and took the second one home for lunch the next day! (And it reheated fairly well…)

  • Chipotle

396 W. Army Trail Rd., Bloomingdale, IL 60108

When I told my server recently that I was allergic to gluten, not only did he change his gloves and wash his hands, but he got a clean bowl for me from under the counter so there was not the slightest chance of cross-contamination. Then he walked my order down the line and bagged it himself. I am DEFINITELY going back to this restaurant!

I went in recently for a dinner to go and because they weren't super busy, I could actually watch them prepare my meal. I specifically ordered it with no bun and I watched the cook with a little trepidation as the people after me ordered sandwiches and he pulled out buns and put them on a separate griddle. Then he pulled off his gloves and changed them to flip my burgers. Then he changed his gloves again to handle their buns. Then changed them again to remove my burger from the griddle and package it up. I'm definitely going back!

  • Chipotle

I went in during a busy time of day (about 5.30 pm or so) and they were hopping, as might be expected of a Chipotle around the corner from an university campus! I asked the server to change his gloves because I had an allergy. He immediately asked if it was gluten and then took my order down the line the entire way himself, which caused a little bit of confusion and a short hold-up for those behind me. He told the other workers that it was a gluten allergy and he had to walk the order through himself. I wish I could remember his name. I feel very safe eating here anytime.
