Thank you, Burger 21, for coming to Charlotte! It's so amazing having such a reliable, safe place for celiacs to eat - and your food is good to boot! I eat here all the time. Only place in the whole city that I trust with a milkshake, too. They clean everything and get ingredients for it from a separate cabinet. Eat here - you won't be sorry!

Update: they no longer have a separate GF menu, which is a real shame. Several items that were on the old menu are no longer listed as GF. It used to be easy to eat there, but now it's a lot of work to figure out what I can & can't eat - even with a few items marked GF. And the servers ALWAYS a bring me a biscuit. :( I've eaten here twice now with no issues (grilled cheese & tomato soup, and the shrimp & grits). Try their blueberry iced tea!As soon as I told the servers I have celiac, they immediately took it seriously. Their GF menu is extensive compared to so many restaurants, & their website says they're Great Kitchens Certified by the National Foundation of Celiac Awareness.

I have had major problems here the last three times I visited. I ordered one type of GF pizza all three times, and they bring me the wrong GF pizza. Then they seemingly rush to fix the problem and bring me what I actually ordered - and I get really sick. I ordered a regular GF cheese pizza (trying to make it easy for them), and they brought out a GF vegan pizza. At least they got the GF part right, but last week was sadly the last time I'll eat here.

They do not have a GF menu, but I get the Pad Thai or certain curries and tell them no spring roll, & it's so good every time. Consistent food, great service, large portions. I have celiac & have never had a reaction.

Thank you, Grill Marks, for a safe, delicious place to eat. I do not recommend the shakes, though. I don't see how those could be safe since they have beer shakes on the menu.

  • Larkin's on the River

    2 starsMay 26, 2014

    318 S Main St, Greenville, SC 29601

This was our first visit to Larkin's. There was no separate gf menu, but the hostess said to ask the server any questions & they could cook to order. We called them many times/day for 3 days prior to our visit to try to discuss their gf options & methods, but after never getting a response we reserved our table through OpenTable & requested a server who is knowledgable in gf needs/celiac. They did not honor that request & we were given a server who had to go back to the kitchen every time we asked the simplest questions about cross-contamination or ingredients. She brought my food out on trays with gluten items from other tables & brought my soup out with bagel chips on the plate, so I had to send that back. Instead of bringing it back out right away, she visited & cleared other tables before returning my soup. My husband finished his soup by the time my replacement came. Aside from gf needs, the food was subpar. The shrimp & grits was dry, clumpy (clumps the size of large grapes!) & smothered in overwhelming melted cheese. The only redeeming quality of the entire meal was the gf she-crab soup. We do not recommend this restaurant. Go to Grill Marks instead! Not fancy but much better quality, great gf options & much better service than Larkin's!

Visited from out of town. The crust was well undercooked & spongy, we asked for extra cheese but it came to use with spots of cheese & mostly empty space, and we sent it back because it wasn't even warm. I'm sick now too, so I suspect they didn't take precautions during prep. I'll stick with the location in Charlotte instead!

  • Paco's Tacos & Tequila

    3 starsOctober 23, 2013

6401 Morrison Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28211

I just talked to the GM. They do offer gf items & offered to clean the prep area for me but their grills/griddles share the stage with their gluten items. Not celiac friendly.

  • Firebirds Wood Fired Grill

    5 starsOctober 05, 2013

6801 Northlake Mall Dr, Charlotte, NC 28078

I've been so pleased with the service & care I've received at this location! The manager has brought out my food each time, confirming that it is GF. The servers are very knowledgable & have gone out of their way to help me & are very considerate as soon as I tell them I have a severe allergy (easier than saying celiac). Very different, much better, experience than at the Southpark location!

  • P.F. Chang's

    4 starsOctober 05, 2013

10325 Perimeter Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28216

We have had good luck with this location except for when the dining area was full so we decided to eat at the bar. My food was definitely contaminated (brought out on the same tray as my husband's plate, & his food was touching mine). I should have sent it back, which is my fault, not theirs.

  • Brixx Wood Fired Pizza

    2 starsOctober 05, 2013

1801 Scott Ave, Charlotte, NC 28203

Very pricey & flavorless, always-undercooked crust. They do cook the pizza on a stainless steel plate, but they don't use a screen or separate prep area to help prevent contamination while cooking. Great effort on their part, quality toppings & totally fine for most intolerants, but not good for severe celiacs.

  • Bad Daddy's Burger Bar

    4 starsOctober 05, 2013

1626 East Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28203

The food is great, but it's always so hectic here that I'm never 100% confident that my food will be handled carefully. They carry the table's food out (gf & non-gf) on a single tray, so if you're very sensitive be sure to ask them to plate it separately (I do every time, but it's always a crap shoot whether or not they will comply). Sides are limited but burgers and (tons of) toppings are fantastic!!! I skip the bun & go straight for a lettuce wrap eaten with fork & knife. They serve Cape Cod chips in individual bags or a fruit bowl on the side.

6809-F Phillips Place Court, Charlotte, NC 28210

They're always so attentive when I tell them I have celiac. The waitstaff goes above & beyond and the food has never made me sick. A great, reliable restaurant that doesn't require research or cause me gluten anxiety!

  • Mama Fu's

    1 starsSeptember 22, 2013

110 S Sharon Amity Rd, Charlotte, NC 28211

Ordered GF General Chicken takeout. My hubby picked it up & when I opened it at home, it had no sauce. Nada. Zilch. When I called they said that their dishes can be made with 'normal' ingredients but they can't include sauces. Misleading GF menu. Be sure to ask for some sort of sauce when you order or you'll receive steamed chicken & veggies with no flavor.

  • Crispy Crepe

    1 starsSeptember 22, 2013

1436 South Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28203

Staff was very friendly, but food was definitely contaminated & made me sick. No separate cooking or prep area. They said they'd gladly use fresh utensils & clean carefully for me but proceeded to place the utensils on the noticeably crumby (gluten) table surface during prep. I won't eat here again, which is sad because it tastes great.
