Really easy to eat gluten free here, and servers understand Celiac. Also, very healthy, delicious meals!

Huge portion of their menu is GF, not to mention everything is super tasty! Often have GF beer, and most specials are GF as well. Most of the desserts are GF, as one of the owner's kids must be GF. One of my absolute favorites, have eaten here at least a dozen times since diagnosis with no reaction.

Was lucky enough to lounge for a few days at Ace, and prior to my arrival I emailed the hotel asking about gluten free options. Billy Deaver, the chef, quickly responded and assured me the staff would be helpful and the menu had options. I was able to safely have five meals there, and the staff was very patient and willing to seek out answers. Many items on the menu can be easily modified. One server, Sarah, was very patient and even thanked me mentioning that it was helpful information! Another server, Shannon, found out the cornstarch brand for me so I could figure out if I could eat the hash browns. Really, really appreciated all of their assistance! The hash browns are safe, as they currently use Argo corn starch; while their fries are not because empanadas also go in the same fryer. Billy, the chef, followed up to make sure my experience there was going well. Overall, very impressed!

Delicious + gorgeous food! Matthew, our server, was really wonderful, pointing out all of the gluten free options which was about 80% of the menu. Really aware of Celiac and cross contamination, very friendly to other allergies as well. He even mentioned that most any allergy/diet can be accommodated. I had the Octopus Carpaccio and Grilled Asparagus Salad, and my husband had Vegetable Enchiladas, all of it was gluten free without any modifications, and absolutely delicious. Even had a few GF dessert options. Oh, and their cocktails are great! Also, this was one of two restaurants out of 11 that I had emailed prior to a trip here that was kind enough to write me back; they explained their options and knowledge of a GF diet. Will absolutely go back when in the area.

Such a wonderful experience! Have eaten at Cheeky's many times prior to diagnosis, and was so happy to see gluten free items on their menu. Our server, wish I knew his name, was wonderful! He truly understood Celiac and gluten free, even noting the difference between gluten free fad dieters. I had the pea + ricotta scramble with a side of avo (substituted for the toast), and shared the bacon flight. Really delicious, and no reaction. Their GF waffle is listed in other reviews, but once I asked him about it he did not recommend it for Celiacs as there is only one waffle iron and it is not cleaned in between uses. Would highly recommend! Plus they have Blue Bottle Coffee, yum!

Stopped in on Christmas Eve, and originally only planned to have a glass of wine and maybe a salad but our server convinced me of their gluten free awareness. Did not disappoint! Ordered the burrata which they were kind enough to sub the crostini out with an entire plain GF pizza crust. So thoughtful! Also, had a margherita pizza on their GF crust. Their crust is really delicious. Once our server mentioned they change gloves, etc., and that he notes 'Celiac' on the food ticket...I was sold. Definitely recommend.

They instill so much confidence while dining here. They just get it. And, the food is delicious! If only everywhere were this easy.

They have quite a large gluten free menu, for both day and night. I am lucky that my husband orders GF so I can try his food, too. He had the burger which was pretty good; I had the Pork Loin sandwich, which was okay, though it came with completely different accompaniments than what was listed on the menu. The root veg gratin is delicious, as well. They definitely are aware of Celiac and gluten free needs. I will likely give them another try.

They may have a gluten free menu, and claim to have a dedicated gluten free fryer, but our server had no knowledge of Celiac/gluten free and didn't care either. My husband and I both ordered from the GF menu, and I mentioned that I have Celiac and another allergy as well (cilantro) when ordering. Our food arrived, and when I asked the runner if it was all GF, he just said 'sure.' One small taste of the rice, and I knew there was cilantro in it, so had to spit that out which is always attractive in a restaurant. When I asked our server, Violeta, if there was cilantro in my dish she needed to go back and check (which should have already happened) and came back laughing and said 'Yes.' So our food possibly had gluten, and definitely had cilantro, so basically the service was terrible. I would not recommend to other Celiacs. Regarding the dedicated fryer, this was being cleaned during the lunch hour (12:45 on a Thursday) so chips + other fried food were unavailable from the GF menu. Our server didn't mention this, a busser was kind enough to answer us. And, if you are wondering, it is actually very easy to eat at most Mexican establishments with a cilantro allergy! This was only my 3rd encounter where someone was too busy to care.

Coffee was tasty, but there is only one GF food option and it is not even worth it. Fruit. You can have coconut flakes + honey added to it, but if it is take away they put the whole mix in a cup with the spoon (so, your entire spoon is coconut + honey covered too).

  • Dos Carlitos Restaurant & Tequila Bar

Stopped in for lunch to enjoy their nice patio in downtown Santa Ynez. Before we were seated I inquired about a GF menu or options, and Dario, our server, was quick to name off all the options or substitutions. There are really quite a few choices, and they were very patient with it all. I would absolutely recommend, as about half the menu was or could be made GF. Substitutions and all, my food was delicious.

Dined here two nights on the recommendation of a friend, and since it was so great the first night we returned the next! Our server, Melissa, was really great! The first night we came in early (5:30), she pointed out the options for GF, which are not labeled. She spoke with the chef to confirm everything, and our food the whole evening was delicious. The second night we came in a bit later (7 or so), and were lucky enough to have Melissa again. Not long after we left the second night, I was quite ill. It was pretty clear to me that it was from gluten. I believe that by going in during a much busier hour on a much busier night, that the timing was really the culprit. Quite hard for a chef to prepare a few dozen plates and have one be strictly GF in the same area. Even with becoming ill, I would still recommend this place as long as you avoid the rush. Our service was great, the food was delicious, just a matter of timing.Gluten free items on the dinner menu: Crispy Sea Bass & Bacon (really delicious!), Pork Belly Porchetta, Tenderloin, and Pumpkin Seed Crusted Rack of Lamb. Gluten free dessert was seasonally flavored creme brûlée, also very tasty.

Enjoyed a sandwich + chips here from the deli counter. Very good! The GF bread is substantially smaller than the gluten-bread sandwiches. The chips are also GF (corn). Not very many options in this area, nice to see a deli counter and grocery options available. Busy counter at lunchtime, couldn't tell how careful they were with cross-contamination; however, I had no reaction.

  • Birkholm's Solvang Danish Bakery & Cafe

    3 starsDecember 16, 2013

Stopped in to find a few GF baked goods (as mentioned on here previously). All are in the same case, and right alongside gluten items - so be aware. There were a few almond cookies, florentines, princess waffles (two florentines with mocha cream in the middle) available. I grabbed a princess waffle, quite tasty! I am not totally certain that I did not at least have a mild reaction, but I cannot be sure if it was from here or another place we stopped at. It was tasty, but perhaps not terribly smart for those of us with Celiac.

Stopped here on our way through town, and it turned out to be a great lunch spot! We shared a few items, which were all clearly labeled GF on the menu. The bacon wrapped chorizo-stuffed dates were delicious, as were the goat cheese stuffed piquillo peppers, quinoa burger, and black bean + avocado fritters. Our server was fine, she seemed a bit more interested in chatting with her friends in another corner of the patio, but a few other employees stopped by quite often to refill water, etc.

  • Indigo Moon Cafe

    4 starsDecember 16, 2013

Ate a late Sunday lunch here, ordered from the Sunday Brunch menu. This particular menu is quite limited in GF options. Two salads (one sans croutons), and the Chilaquiles (sub corn tortilla). I had the Chilaquiles, which were very, very delicious! Our server was great; her brother has a couple food allergies, and she is very aware of cross-contamination, etc. Even with limited options, I would recommend.

Cute spot in Cambria! Menu is well labeled with GF or GFO, and a variety of choices. Our server, Jeff, was knowledgable and quick to seek out answers if he wasn't sure about something. Had the Cambria Avocado Melt (added bacon), really delicious!

Successfully eaten here twice! Both times a different person took our order at the counter, and while they did not seem to fully comprehend what Celiac is, they did grasp the importance I was trying to convey. The second time, the guy mentioned they cannot 'guarantee' cross contamination, which I understood and just asked to please do everything logically possible to not set it in flour, etc. Both times I checked the bottom of the pizza for flour - none. None on the pan either. Their GF crusts come prepackaged, so they are not created in their facility alongside gluten products. The crust is also delicious! It is a slightly thinner crust, and has a good crunch. I should mention that both times we went on the early side, in hopes of making the chef's job a bit easier with cross contamination. Great place, plus you can have your dog on the patio, and enjoy the heat lamps for our frigid Leucadia winters.

  • Claire's on Cedros

Pre-Celiac I ate at Claire's very often, and while I cannot indulge in their French toast anymore, it is still a great place to go! They are very understanding about Celiac and no cross contamination. While their menu clearly states they cannot guarantee a gluten free environment, I have eaten here 5 times without incident (and, I know within 10-15 minutes of eating). Their GF banana walnut muffin is amazing! Both types of GF muffins are on their own separate tray in the case, and not touching other gluten items. Quite easy to order a variety of options from their menu, and I am keen to try the new addition of GF Clairecakes. Important to mention, they do not have a GF toaster, so I have opted to not get their GF toast. If you like chai, try theirs - delicious!

Enjoyed a leisurely brunch here this weekend. Server (Noah) was very informed on gluten free items/substitutions/inquiries, and quite polite about it all as well! Had eggs, sausage, and the Kennebec frites. GF is clearly labeled on the menu, and easy to sub out items. The only thing I wanted to indulge in and could not was a Bloody Mary, they use the Ballast Point Mary Mix which has beer in it. Overall, highly recommend!
