About Me

Fifty something, love to travel and try new places. Analytical, and cautious about where I will eat. Do not eat anything that swims so not good at seafood recommendations!

  • Health Food Shop/Daisy's Deli

    5 starsMay 13, 2014

508 1st Avenue North, Great Falls, MT 59401

Breakfast and lunch only. Make their own gluten free bread, muffins, cookies. Also offer gluten free wraps, not sure if they are made in store or not. Not a gluten free restaurant but they do have a gluten free menu and can make almost everything on the menu gluten free. I had a salad with strawberries, mandarin oranges, candied almonds, and a house made honey poppyseed dressing, and a gluten free raspberry cream cheese muffin. Delicious!

  • Montana City Grill & Saloon

    4 starsMay 13, 2014

4 Mount Highway 518, Montana City, MT 59634

Limited choices for gluten free however I had a chef salad with house made wild huckleberry dressing and it was delicious. Staff seemed to have an understanding of what gluten free means and was very willing to be careful to avoid cross contamination.

  • Dante's Creative Cuisine

    5 starsMay 13, 2014

1325 8th Avenue North, Great Falls, MT 59401

Food was fantastic... Even offered me toasted gluten free italian roll. They serve all their bread with a whole roasted garlic, oil and balsamic vinegar for dipping. It was great. Almost every entree on the menu was gluten free or could be made gluten free. They do have gluten free pasta and know to avoid cross contamination. I had a bacon wrapped filet mignon, baked potato. salad, and bread and it was all great. I felt management had a good understanding of gluten and took care to avoid cross contamination.

  • MacKenzie River Pizza Co.

    5 starsMay 13, 2014

500 River Dr S, Great Falls, Mt 59405

Gluten free pizza was delicious! Many sauce, cheese, and topping options.

  • Crooked Tree Coffee & Cakes

    3 starsMay 13, 2014

501 1st Avenue North, Great Falls, MT 59401

Gluten free pumpkin spice muffin offered. It was good, however it was in a display case with non GF baked goods, and not even wrapped. Not recommended if cross contamination is a concern.

  • Carrabba's

    1 starsJanuary 03, 2014

8030 Ritchie Hwy, Pasadena, MD 21122

Best to avoid. No separate cooking area so cross contamination is a big concern. Not sure why they would state they have a gluten free menu and then warn it's not safe for celiacs.

  • One Dish Cuisine Cafe, Deli & Bakery

    4 starsJanuary 03, 2014

8001 Hillsborough Rd, Ellicott City, MD 21043

Have eaten here twice in the past month and it's great. I'm a big fan of the Italian Cold Cut sub. That is next to impossible to find gluten-free, and it's delicious! But everything is good here.

  • Two Rivers Fish & Steakhouse

    5 starsJanuary 02, 2014

4105 Mountain Road, Pasadena, MD 21122

Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. Not a separate gluten free menu but the staff is knowledgeable about gluten free options and there is a separate prep area in the kitchen to prepare food for those with allergies.

  • Rutabegorz

    5 starsSeptember 03, 2013

    211 N Pomona Ave, Fullerton, CA 92832

Large selection of gluten free items on a printed GF menu (4 pages long). I had a Mediterranean salad which was quite large, and delicious. Service at lunch was quick and efficient.

  • Stacked

    5 starsSeptember 03, 2013

446 West Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360

Delicious food, helpful and trained staff, incredible selection of gluten free items including salads, burgers with GF buns, GF mac and cheese, GF pizza. Ordering is done at table with an Ipad and all entrees are completely customizable. The Ipad shows the options and you move the choices to add to your entree. They have gluten free fries and house-made waffle potato chips too. For the burgers there are choices of beef, chicken, salmon, veggie, turkey, and pork barbecue. The restaurant makes a point of avoiding cross contamination. To date there are only four locations. This was a great find when visiting Southern California. I hope they open more restaurants across the country.

  • Nando's Peri-Peri

    4 starsJuly 09, 2013

421 West Baltimore Street, Baltimore, MD 21201

Really fresh flame grilled chicken; you can choose how spicy you would like it. Many options for gluten free sides and salads. Since you order at the register and it can be busy, I recommend checking their website for the latest gluten free menu items before you go so you have an idea what you might like to try.

  • Bella Napoli

    4 starsJune 24, 2013

350 Mountain Rd, Pasadena, MD 21122

Restaurant offers gluten free pasta with your choice of sauce, and some entree salads are gluten free. The food at this restaurant is delicious! They even offer delicious gluten free pizza!

  • Bombay Duck Pickle Cafe

    5 starsJune 21, 2013

327 State St, Carthage, NY 13619

The owners have a good understanding of special diets and cross contamination. This is a very small restaurant but it's a gem...the food is fresh and delicious. If you call ahead Allison will be sure to make some gluten free dishes that day. -------------------------- Original review posted in 2010. Visited again in June 2013 and the food was still excellent and had no trouble getting a nice selection of gluten free food.

  • Petticoat Row Bakery

    3 starsJune 18, 2013

35 Center St, Nantucket, MA 02554

I stopped in this bakery because it looked attractive, to see if there were any gluten free bakery items available. I was pleasantly surprised to find out they do sell gluten free cupcakes and macaroons, which looked beautiful. However, they were displayed (un-covered) in the case next to the gluten-containing items, and sadly I decided it was not worth the risk of cross contamination. However for people who are a little sensitive or avoiding gluten rather than celiac, this bakery should provide some tasty options!

  • Fresh Ketch

    5 starsJune 18, 2013

462 Main Street, Hyannis Port, MA 02601

Separate Gluten Free menu with quite a few options. I had a salad and ordered cheddar cheese rather than blue cheese, which for some reason they put in a bowl. This salad had the best honey-mustard dressing I have ever tasted! It was so good!

  • Nantucket Gourmet

    4 starsJune 18, 2013

4 India Street, Nantucket, MA 02554

Being in Nantucket for a day trip I was concerned about finding anything I could eat. Nantucket Gourmet offers salads where you get an order sheet and pick your choice of romaine or mixed greens, and up to 5 toppings to add. All of the toppings except croutons were gluten free. I requested the person making the salad to change their gloves and use a fresh bowl to mix my salad, and it was not a problem. There was a wide variety of choices to top the salad.

  • Yum Yum's Gluten Free Bakery

    5 starsJune 18, 2013

601 1/2 West Manlius Street, East Syracuse, NY 13057

Everything from sandwiches, pizza, soups, to desserts, is gluten free. No risk of cross - contamination here. We tried pizza, panini sandwich, cupcakes, and cookies in our group of four. I am the only one who has to eat gluten free. Everyone loved their meal and said they could not tell it was gluten free. Highly recommend this restaurant.

  • Empire Brewing Company

    5 starsJune 18, 2013

120 Walton St, Syracuse, NY 13202

Delicious house-made raspberry hard cider. Yum. Gluten free menu. I had a salad but there were also hot entrees to choose from. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and being able to go to a brew-pub with my friends and get something delicious to eat and drink.

  • Not Your Average Joe's

    5 starsJune 18, 2013

793 Iyannough Rd, Barnstable Town, MA 02601

One of my favorite gluten free menus. The onion rolls and olive oil/herb dip are such a great way to start the meal. If I did not know it was GF I would not have known the difference. Large gluten free menu. I had a hamburger which was served hot and delicious. A manager brings every gluten free item to the table which makes me think they have a very good understanding of cross contamination and take no chances.

  • Pita Spot

    5 starsJune 18, 2013

45 Williams Avenue, Mystic, CT 06355

Delicious gluten free meal. Many items to choose from and clearly marked on the menu. Owners seem to have a good understanding of cross contamination. Wish I lived close by so I could go back often!

  • Captain Daniel Packer Inne

    4 starsJune 18, 2013

32 Water St, Mystic, CT 06355

They do have a pretty large gluten free menu. Enjoyed having gluten free french onion soup, that's hard to find. The food was very good and so was the atmosphere. Only thing that kept it from being excellent was too many sauces on the food for our taste. Filet Mignon was smothered in two sauces that made it hard to taste the meat. Order that on the side if you go there. Atmosphere was very nice.

  • Pizzetta

    5 starsJune 18, 2013

7 Water St, Mystic, CT 06355

Delicious gluten free pizza and friendly service. Outdoor patio with live music on a Sunday evening. Fantastic!

  • Ice Cream Sandwich

    3 starsJune 11, 2013

    66 Massachusetts 6A, Sandwich, MA 02563

the place is really cute. They did have gluten free cones for $1 extra and they are store bought traditional flat bottom cones. I think I would have preferred a bowl and saved the dollar. The ice cream was good. I had moose tracks with chocolate swirl and peanut butter cups. Hubby had soft serve raspberry which had real raspberries in it (including seeds) and his was delicious!

  • Kate's Cafe

    4 starsJune 10, 2013

27 Broadway Avenue, Mystic, CT 06355

  • Hellas Restaurant and Lounge

    5 starsOctober 17, 2012

8498 Veterans Hwy, Hanover, MD 21108

Update: The restaurant now has a printed gluten free menu which is the most extensive gluten free menu I have seen; food is delicious and nicely presented. Advance notice for gluten free crabcakes is no longer necessary. ----------------------------------- Delicious greek salad, chicken souvlaki, crab cakes, and more can be made gluten free and delicious. Owners understand cross contamination and are careful to avoid it. Their crab cakes are huge and to call before you go to the restaurant to give them a heads-up that you plan to go there and need gluten free crabcakes.

  • Fisherman's Corner Restaurant

    4 starsOctober 02, 2012

4419 Long Bridge Rd, Tangier, VA 23440

Tangier is a small island accessible only by boat, and restaurant options are very limited; I was worried about what I was going to eat when staying there with friends! At Fishermens corner I had mango pineapple chicken, baked potato, and salad with house lemon-lime dressing. It was delicious and gluten free. Had emailed ahead to inquire about options and they did respond to my request. Could not eat dessert there, however there are a few ice cream shops on the island....

  • Mimi's Cafe

    1 starsAugust 09, 2012

8250 Gateway Overlook Dr, Elkridge, MD 21075

Did not have a good experience here. Gluten containing food was placed on the plate with GF.

  • Bobby's Burger Palace

    5 starsAugust 04, 2012

7002 Arundel Mills Cir (at Maryland Live! Casino), Hanover, MD 21076

Dedicated fryers for french fried potatoes, sweet potato fries, which are awesome and are served with special sauces that happen to be gluten free as well! Any burger (angus beef, turkey, or boneless chicken) can be ordered "topless" (no bun) on a bed of baby greens with balsamic dressing. Delicious and gluten free. The cactus pear frozen margarita is really delicious too.

  • Brian Boru

489 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146

  • The Narrows Restaurant

    5 starsJune 24, 2012

3023 Kent Narrow Way S, Grasonville, MD 21638

Gorgeous waterfront setting, excellent food and service. Comprehensive gluten free menu, particularly if you like seafood. I had rosemary chicken with a GF brown sauce, peas, and a medley of zuchini, squash, and carrots. It was served with choice of garden or caesar salad. Reservations recommended on weekends, and ask to sit on the (air conditioned) porch for the best view! NoteL The menu and server told us the mashed potatoes contain gluten from wheat in chicken stock, which is a real shame since there are lots of gluten free chicken stocks available. Seems like an easy change they could make to be more accomodating.

  • Meet 27

    4 starsJune 23, 2012

    127 W 27th St, Baltimore, MD 21218

Friendly staff, entire restaurant is gluten free. Next door to Sweet Sin Cupcakery and the desserts are made there. They have gluten free hamburger buns, sweet potato fries, chicken satay, many other delicious entrees. It is the only restaurant I have had the pleasure of dining in where everything is gluten free. It is such a treat. If anyone in your party is handicapped, you should know that you need to go up about 4 steps to get to the dining room. Can BYOB to this restaurant as they do not have a liquor license.

  • Fogo de Chao

    5 starsJune 23, 2012

    600 E Pratt St, Baltimore, MD 21202

Pricey but worth it for a special occasion. The salad bar is not just a salad bar, there are so many choices! The meats are outstanding. The real treat for me is being able to eat the bread....gluten free cheese bread. It's awesome!

  • Bonefish Grill

    5 starsJune 23, 2012

    6711 Governor Ritchie Highway, Glen Burnie,MD 21061

The chocolate creme brulee is one of the best desserts I ever had. For dinner I like Lily's Chicken. But if you like seafood you are in for a real treat! This is a really good restaurant and they are very careful with the gluten free preparations, from what I can tell.

  • Pei Wei

    4 starsJune 23, 2012

6478 Dobbin Center Way Suite A, Columbia, MD 21045

Have eaten there several times with my daughter (who is super sensitive celiac) and we both were fine. Fast casual type restaurant where you order at the counter and they bring the food to you. Wish they had a larger selection and GF lettuce wraps like PF Changs.

  • Uno Chicago Grill

    5 starsJune 23, 2012

10300 Little Patuxent Pkwy #3030, Columbia, MD 21044

  • Galway Bay Irish Restaurant

    4 starsJune 23, 2012

63 Maryland Ave, Annapolis, MD 21401

Has a gluten free menu, Irish Food. The sauces are made using corn starch instead of flour. If you like Shepherds Pie you will enjoy it here. Good place for Sunday Brunch if you are in Annapolis. Close to State House. Parking is on street only so it's a bit challenging if anyone in the group is handicapped.

  • The Chop House

    5 starsJune 23, 2012

1915 Towne Centre Blvd, Suite 250, Annapolis, MD 21401

  • Route 2 Diner

    5 starsJune 23, 2012

    1371 Rte 2, Rumford, ME 04276

Driving along Rt 2 in this rural area of Maine, we were pleasantly surprised to see a sign for GF whoopie pies. Turns out this diner's owner eats gluten free, and brings in baked goods to sell, from a dedicated GF bakery. She has GF bread for sandwiches, a great looking omelette station. It was not a meal time so we just bought the whoopie pie, but the owner said she understands the gf diet and will make you something safe And yummy. Check out the website.

  • Popovers on the Square

    5 starsJune 23, 2012

8 Congress St, Portsmouth, NH 03801

  • Rafferty's

    5 starsJune 22, 2012

36 Kearsarge Rd, North Conway, NH 03860

Extensive gluten free menu, and several brands of gluten free beer. There were so many options it was hard to decide what to order for our meal. Half of their kitchen is GF, there is a dedicated GF fryer and the staff is trained to understand the GF diet (owner's children have celiac). Was able to have GF onion rings, a first in quite a few years! They sell GF frozen foods to go, and several dessert options. I wish this place was in my town!

  • Half Baked & Fully Brewed

    4 starsJune 22, 2012

187 Main St, Lincoln, NH 03251

Normally will make sandwiches on GF Panini bread, but they were out the day we were there and only had Tapioca Bread, which I disdain. I opted for a large plate of green salad with the best homemade chicken salad ever, on top. It was delicious. Had to request a clean surface for cutting the vegetables. Their freezer case is stocked with GF entrees they purchase from a dedicated GF facility which you can heat at home. A nice option if you are in town for vacation and have kitchen facilities. They had GF Whoopie Pies made in a dedicated GF bakery, for sale. Very willing to work with you to make something you can enjoy.

  • The Great Impasta

    5 starsJune 22, 2012

42 Maine St, Brunswick, ME 04011

Extensive gluten free menu, was even able to order yummy Italian bread with olive oil and herb dip. The gluten free lasagna was excellent, as was the pizza. We enjoyed it so much for dinner we went back the next day for lunch (while traveling).
