  • The Pacific Plate

    5 starsOctober 25, 2013

194 Main Street, Point Arena, CA 95468

I took a chance on this restaurant by looking at the menu which didn't seem to have any gluten on the menu. I asked as I was perusing the menu and Katy, one of the owners/chefs/waitstaff, said she is gluten-intolerant and that they keep a totally GF kitchen using Bob's Red Mill flours & Canyon buns & breads. Farm-to-table. Sonoma county is known for their organic foods and these gals know their vendors with fresh local meats and cheeses and will tell you all about them. The Jumbo Pink Banana Squash soup was a subtle delight but the piece de resistance was the Bollies Mollies soft cheese melted in it. I had the Grilled Vegies on Spanish Rice (w green chili & beans); it was available as a vegetarian entree (yummy); the Stornetta Pork was an add on but was overcooked so I didn't appreciate it's flavor. They lived in New Mexico which influences the choices of spices and ingredients. The entrees trend on the spicy (buy not burning) side so ask if you have concerns. As a new restaurant they aim to please and appreciate your feedback.Be forewarned, the only signage was a small sidewalk sandwich board which wasn't very visible. It's in the Pt Arena hotel building. You can enter through the bar if you can't find the door.

1310 New Hampshire Ave NW, Washington, DC 20036

Features fresh, local & seasonal seafoods, meats & ingredients with a menu titled Urban Picnic which nods to both the basic ingredients but edgy play on tastes. I enjoyed carmelized brussel sprouts and deviled eggs with caper powder and garlic. I shared blue bay mussels steamed withyukon potatoes, celery root, leek, apple wood bacon - ahhh, heaven. Great top shelf inventive cocktails.

  • Old Ebbitt Grill

    5 starsOctober 30, 2012

    675 15th St NW, Washington, DC 20005

Old Ebbitt was established in 1856, is near the White House and wonderful milieu and amazing fresh & local seafood & ingredients aiming for tradition but not afraid to look forward. Though no separate GF menu, the wait & kitchen staff are well-informed and will work with you to adjust the menu accordingly. I ate here twice in 3 days.

  • Red Velvet Cupcakery

    5 starsOctober 30, 2012

    501 7th St NW, Washington, DC 20004

Only 4 offerings (choc/choc, chock/van, van/van, van choc) but they are moist, rich and delicious buttery frosting. They put my GF cupcake in a separate bag from my husband's regular one without my asking. Near Metro Center station.

  • Trader Joe's

    4 starsMay 22, 2012

1482 El Camino Real, San Carlos, CA 94070

Always find something new GF but can't always depend on finding the same thing each time which is very frustrating. Some of us have dependable favorites so I don't depend on them for GF.

  • Chipotle

    5 starsMay 22, 2012

1135 Industrial Rd., Unit C, San Carlos, CA 94070

Well priced, organic, order corn tortillas for GF selection. Yum!

  • P.F. Chang's

    4 starsMay 22, 2012

Stanford Shopping Center, 900 Stanford Shopping Center Bldg. W, Palo Alto, CA 94304

GF menu is somewhat limited but what they do have is delicious, interesting and beautifully presented. Staff is very accomodating about allergies.

  • Whole Foods

    5 starsMay 22, 2012

1250 Jefferson Ave, Redwood City, CA 94062

There must be a wide variety of approaches to GF at different Whole Foods stores. Ours in Redwood City CA is awesome and I can't imagine being GF without it. Though GF items are intermingled with like items throughout the store, there is a separate section with just GF items and it is located close to a separate freezer section with just GF items. Have your local manager talk to the Redwood City manager about the set-up.

  • Amici's

    3 starsMay 22, 2012

226 Redwood Shores Pkwy, Redwood City, CA 94065

Only one size (10") GF pizza crust which can get pricey for one person. GF crust taste is OK but not awesome. On the thin side.

  • Zest Bakery

    5 starsMay 22, 2012

1224 Arroyo Ave, San Carlos, CA 94070

Totally GF bakery. They have a great selection of both regular items (3 berry muffins, lemon-poppyseed loaf, mini-almond cakes, breads & baguettes are our family favorites) as well as a constant rotation of interesting donuts, muffins, cupcakes, cookies. In the frig you'll find GF raviolis, tortellini, pizza crust, pie crust, cheesecake, ice cream sandwiches. Deli sandwiches are great at lunchtime. All organic and taste is better than average to GREAT! I'm never disappointed.

  • Patxi's

    5 starsMay 22, 2012

441 Emerson St, Palo Alto, CA 94301

Name is actually "Paxti's". FABULOUS GF crust, tasty, nicely risen, tastes you don't think it's GF. Greats cheeses, unusual combinations. GF pizza is not an oxymoron here

Organic, fresh, large GF selection, delicious.
