About Me

My wife is allergic to gluten and dairy, so I try to find the best places for us to eat near home and when we travel. I also love to cook and have gotten pretty good at preparing allergy free food.

  • Willy's Burger Bar + Rotisserie

Not worth the trip. The filthy bathroom should have been my first tip off to try somewhere else. The fryer is a not gluten-free fryer as another review mentioned. Our waitress (who was actually very friendly) informed us that while the fries are gluten free, they "do not guarantee them because we also fry breaded chicken fingers in the same fryer". The $4 salad was just a plate of the lettuce the put on burgers with some dressing. Yes, $4 for a plate with nothing but lettuce and dressing. The burger was just okay. Served with an Udi's roll it was a step above fast food quality.

Great place for breakfast, lunch and GF grocery shopping!

  • Seafood Sam's

My wife and I are here and were very unsatisfied with how they handle allergies. When we placed our order my wife ordered the broiled swordfish and steamed broccoli. She told the girl taking the order that she was allergic to dairy and gluten. After ringing us up she hung up the ticket in front of the cook who was standing directly behind her and walked away without saying anything to him. I looked at our ticket and while the broccoli said "no butter" there was no indication that there was any special dietary requirements. I then told the cook that the swordfish order had to be gluten and dairy free, which he didn't realize. The manager than told us that the swordfish was pre-marinated in butter. After a lengthy discussion with the manager and cook we realized this restaurant is not prepared to handle serving food to people with food allergies. We ended up cancelling her order and they got mad at us. If you have a food allergy or special diet needs to not go here, there are plenty of other restaurants in the area.

  • Basil Thai

Typically Thai food doesn't use a lot of wheat and it's most commonly found in the fried appetizers and dishes that use soy sauce. With this in mind I stopped in here during the afternoon to ask about food allergies and if things could be made gluten and dairy free. The women I spoke with was very friendly and said it wouldn't be a problem, just tell her when we ordered. When we went for dinner she remembered me and was very friendly. When we ordered she confirmed that each dish we selected was free of gluten/dairy and also asked ingrideiants like eggs/shirmp/chicken were alright. The food was very tasty (try the mango curry).

  • Idgy's

23 Whites Path, South Yarmouth, MA 02664

We ate here for breakfast and it was pretty good. The gluten free bread I had for toast was very good. We also tried one of their cupcakes, which was good but the cake part was a bit heavy. On future vacations to the area we will return here and will recommend to our friends.

  • Palio Pizzeria

    5 starsSeptember 15, 2012

435 Main St, Hyannis, MA 02601

I contacted the owner about dairy in the pizza dough and how the prevent cross contamination. He responded in a very timely manner and described the measures taken to prevent cross contamination with other ingredients, which are appropriate. He also told us that if we brought in an unopened package of dairy free cheese, he would be happy to use it on our pizza.

  • Mandy's Healthy Cafe and Juice Bar

    5 starsMay 29, 2012

227 Smith St, Brooklyn, NY 11231

Nice spot to grab some fresh juice, smoothie, wrap or salad. The majority of the stuff is gluten free, but ask for the GF menu to be sure. Fresh and tasty. Would go here again.

  • Sun In Bloom

460 Bergen St, Brooklyn, NY 11217

Lots of gluten free options. Fresh juices were delicious. Only complaint was that the gluten free cupcake I had was a little heavy, typical of gluten free baked goods (still very good and worth trying though).

  • Bogota Latin Bistro

    5 starsMay 29, 2012

    141 5th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11217

Eat here, it's amazing. First my only complaint: the plantain chips they served to the table weren't cooked in one of their dedicated gluten free fryers. Now for all the good stuff: The majority of the menu is gluten free. It was nice to have the normal menu in a restaurant and have so many things to choose from. In my party of seven everyone was very happy with what they ordered. The food was absolutely delicious and some of the best I've ever had. Well seasoned, flavorful, fresh and colorful. There is a link to their menu on Findmeglutenfree.com, but to summarize their menu is Colombian/Latin American cuisine. The ambiance was great to. Very funky cool restaurant. Can't wait to go back.
