Hit and Miss. Extremely server dependent. Most recent visit, server said yeah, yeah and then they delivered the meal items with gluten ingredients. Like you specify a GF burger with no cheese, no chips, no fries, and it arrives with a wheat bun. No real apologies until you ask for the manager. Use caution during peak hours. You're likely to get seriously glutened if not careful.

Didn't stay. Staff very nice but everything is baked in same oven with gluten-floured products. Not Celiac safe, by their own statements.

Gluten-free menu, fairly good number of options. Strongly recommend the scallops.

Slow service the day we visited (manager way slower than other servers!) but nice selection. We enjoyed the meal and felt well after.

Excellent. Not Casein free - many items have dairy- but the gentleman at this location kindly made an omelette from scratch for me. My son had buckwheat crepes (contains milk) that were delicious. Some add-ons, like the chicken, are marinated in buttermilk.

Tasty burger without the bun. Willing to ask kitchen specific questions about food but it can get lost in translation. Served a slaw on the plate that, after asking beforehand whether it was celiac safe, was still plated with my burger anyway.

Fantastic, clearly labeled GF menu, also many vegan/GF options for those eating GF/CF. They take real care with your meal. Ate there twice, no bad experiences .

I've been to Bunnie Cakes a number of times, bought birthday cakes from them and their adorable cupcakes, all with no negative experience previously. Yesterday, it was a bad experience. First the service was terrible. We ordered sandwiches and they took 40 minutes to make two small sandwiches, one of which was GF and the other (my husband's) which was just vegan. My son ordered their already-prepared GF cheese balls. My son and I followed up with a couple of GF cupcakes. But a hour later, my son and I (who had eaten totally different lunch items and different cupcakes) both felt ill. It was the only meal we'd had outside our home for more than a day. I'm hoping it's a fluke because this was previously the only reliable GF-offering bakery near me. But they do have a gluten containing side in the bakeshop. I think they currently have a contamination issue. Approach with caution.

First experience was spectacular. Second experience I got a gluten free pizza crust on which they poured wheat flour containing bechamel sauce. The waitress was well versed in GF/DF. The chef, not so much. Owner/manager extremely upset with kitchen. Approach with caution if you have celiac.

  • Indus Indian & Herbal Cuisine

    2 starsMarch 03, 2014

Not reliably celiac safe. I'm giving Indus 2 stars rather than 1 because the first time I ate here in July 2013 I both enjoyed my meal and didn't get sick. This time, however, after trying again and again to confirm gluten free, I got really sick from eating Bhindi (okra) and lamb vindaloo with plain basmati rice. Both dishes are listed as GF on their menu. They are NOT. Our server appeared to have no idea what gluten was, the first sign I shouldn't have relied on prior experience.

Delicious and totally celiac safe! Sizable menu. They also also have casein free awareness.

Totally server dependent. Our most recent server disappeared for 15 minutes after I asked about any gluten-free sushi options and came back later asking what we wanted and when I asked about gluten-free sushi he clearly bluffed his way through, just recommending against poké sauces and not even considering tempura rolls. Order from GF menu with care. Also, variable w/requests for no dairy.

  • Maine Stay Inn & Cottages

    5 starsAugust 10, 2013

34 Maine Street, Kennebunkport, ME 04046

The Maine Stay Inn is a Bed and Breakfast that can prepare gluten free breakfast (delicious ones!) with advanced notice. The owners' daughter has celiac disease and they are very conscientious.

Hands down the best gluten-free baked goods I've had outside of those baked at home. Really delicious, gluten-free, casein-free cookies, cupcakes, whoopie pies, etc. and so refreshing that they don't use coconut, which gives me hives and is the latest trend in gluten-free baking. Some of their goods are stocked at Entropy, on the CMU campus, but it's worth a trip to go to the store. Get there early to have you pick and feast!

Simply fabulous. Really delightful food. Many options. The kitchen will adapt dishes for you if they can. The staff is very careful, the kitchen is careful. Ate there for several days and never got glutened. Be sure to state you have celiac disease.

  • Zen Chinese Bistro

I got glutened. They offer a number of gluten-free items on their general menu (marked GF) but I do not feel it was celiac-safe.

    1 starsMay 25, 2013

Gluten free menu but not a celiac safe kitchen. Somewhat indifferent wait staff took our order and then delivered plates noting which were gluten-free and which (my husband's) were not. Nonetheless within 45 minutes to an hour later, my son and I were both feeling queasy and awoke feeling ill. In retrospect, the kitchen, such as we could see it, looked too small to have separate areas and clearly they don't clean adequately when prepping GF menu items.

The gluten free menu is rather limited and doesn't really vary from season to season, but the food is good and I've never gotten sick here, after dining many times.
