In the heart of downtown, 1592 is a tasty Mediterranean restaurant … with house made gf pita! Many of the items on the menu are gf, but you need to confirm with your server because they aren’t identified. To start, the roasted Brussel sprouts are quite good. The pulled lamb handheld was ok. My friend ordered the Greek salad with lamb pops and it looked amazing.

Decent food. No GF menu and depending on the waiter, you may not be comfortable. They have gf pita and some options, but not too impressed.

While there is not a set gf menu there are extensive gf options. The homemade gf pita and dips are delicious, as is the homemade gf pizza crust. We also got the grilled octopus which was wonderful. Cute place inside with tasty cocktails. I have celiac and I did not get sick. Highly recommend.

Very knowledgeable about gluten. Some items marked GF; most items can be adapted. Food was fresh and delicious, with a nice atmosphere. Definite repeat for this celiac. EDITED TO ADD - I have now eaten here at least 10 times and each was wonderful. I feel very safe here and the food and atmosphere are great!

Waiter was able to confirm with chef if gluten free pita had almond flour in it (it doesn’t; I’m allergic to almonds too). Not sure about cross contamination avoidance but they might accommodate.

Gf pita was hot and good with this Syrian dip we ordered made of peppers called muhammarrah. Gf is +$4 and extra pita is +$5 but I will pay any up charge to keep these as an option. 😅

The veggies were very fresh and loved the octopus appetizer too. (They left the crispy black rice off — not sure if fried in gluten or what).

Amazing place! I really wish I had discovered this sooner so I could’ve gone multiple times on my visit to Sarasota. They have homemade gluten free pita breads and also pizza dough crust. A lot of the menu is naturally gluten free. So so good and more reasonably priced than other restaurants in the area. They have a great happy hour and cool bar inside too!

Called ahead to make sure they followed protocols, asked waiter to please mark our order as GF celiac. Was still glutened. Followed up with manager who was so rude, suggested I should not eat out in the future.
