I love this place. Their bacon egg and cheese homemade biscuits along with the fresh squeezed orange juice is simply magnificent. I’ve also had the waffles on occasion, but since it’s hard to find gluten free biscuits, I usually opt for that.

This was so worth the wait (took me 3 years to get here finally) and walk in the pouring rain! I got the Beaut, and she is a thing of beauty! So delicious, didn’t break apart like gluten free usually does, and flavorful to boot! It’s wonderful being able to walk into a place like this and order whatever I want from the menu. Cute little dedicated gf restaurant downtown Richmond. Friendly staff. I tried the regular waffle, orange cranberry scone and biscuit: waffle was very tasty, not a fan of their syrup , (used strawberry jam instead), biscuit had a nice texture but an odd aftertaste (smoky/bacon-ish); scone was by far my favorite thing! Would definitely recommend trying this place if you’re in town. I will note that my recommendation would be for them to add at least a small sign stating gf facility, had I been walking by I would not have stopped, assuming it was not gf friendly. Thanks to this app I knew to try it out. Best prices for gf items I’ve seen…thank you to the owner for not overcharging!

It's funny, your comment caused a small fight in the store, lol. I agree with you about the syrup. Someone changed syrups because it was more convenient to buy everything at one store. We have gone back to the old syrup that I (and I think you, Jill) like better. The biscuits were an anomaly and usually taste good and have no aftertaste.

Many people have commented on the fact that we don't advertise GF in the store. We have a reason for that. GF food has a stigma of being bad and expensive. We believe our GF community will find us. To keep the doors open we need everyone else too. So in order to not be prejudged or blindly dismissed, we don't advertise GF because we think our food can compete with anyone in our food demographic.

100% GF! They have breakfast and lunch items plus cookies and scones. We had Belgian waffles with a generous amount of strawberries and bananas, a bacon-egg-cheese sandwich, and chocolate chip scones. Delicious! Fast service. Cute seating area.

Hello, This is the owner of 521 Biscuits and Waffles. I wanted to thank you all for coming to the restaurant. We are working on new products all the time to provide to our GF community and to everyone else.

A concern I wanted to address is our advertising. Many of you may notice we dont advertise GF. There is a reason for this. GF food has a stigma for being nasty, especially in comparison to similar food with gluten. Many of our customers dont know we are GF and many of our customers have no issue with gluten. Our logic is our food will win over the general public and our GF community will find us.

So, we plan to expand to many cities and hopefuly make it more convenient for our community to get good food.

Food was great. We had biscuit with egg and cheese. Did not have a reaction. Different places say everything is gluten free but their website and restaurant do not make it really clear. We saw other review noting the same thing. Given how sensitive I am, I really prefer that kind of confirmation. Why not make it super clear so we don't have to confirm? It would save the employees from having to answer the same questions repeatedly and would be one place where we didn't have to be 'that customer'. I've had so many reactions from restaurants that we only go places that are all GF or very, very explicit about their protocols. Without this app's reviews we wouldn't have gone.

Yes, you hit on something we talk about all the time. We don't advertise GF because there is a stigma with GF food. I have no issues with gluten and that is partially why I bought the restaurant. The food was as good or better than any "normal" establishment. Still, the business was failing 1 year ago when we bought it. We think our GF community will appreciate us and find us. We also need the non GF community to help keep the doors open. It's a tough balance because people often get picky when it comes to how they spend their money and to be honest I can't blame them. Before we bought this place we tried many GF establishments to compare products and I wouldn't be happy spending my hard earned money with many of them.

Now, we also had to retrain our front of house staff to understand that many people have a lot at stake by just going out to eat so respect their questions and concerns. Have empathy, patience and try to understand where they are coming from.

I had a delicious waffle, eggs, and bacon with maple syrup. My husband had an biscuit breakfast sandwich, but I thought my waffle was better. The service and atmosphere were great. No worries about CC as it's 100%GF.

I was a little nervous, because there's no indication inside the restaurant that it's dedicated gluten free and the waffles are so delicious I was convinced they must contain gluten. But the staff confirmed it's fully gluten free. I don't know what magic they use, but they make phenomenal waffles.

I feel kind of bad about not advertising GF. We have a family who is looking to partner with us to open a store right outside Philly. They explained how their daughter, who is gluten intolerant, has anxiety when she goes out to eat because it's often a roll of the dice. That must be terrible. If the stigma surrounding GF food wasn't so bad, we would advertise. We just really need the non GF community to see our food is good and we are hoping our GF community finds and supports us.

I have ordered pickup twice now from 521 Biscuits and will every time I’m in the Richmond area. The. BISCUITS. Are. So. Good. They are delicious and very large which makes them 100% worth $4.50. Now I wouldn’t necessarily say they are southern buttermilk biscuits…they are more of a cross between a biscuit and French bread but I LOVE THEM. Both times I’ve ordered from here, I got a biscuit (or 3) and also a biscuit and bacon sandwich. Their bacon is extremely thick cut and perfectly cooked. I’ve also frozen a biscuit before and they defrosted great! Oh and their scones are fantastic too! Highly recommend. I’ll be sure to check out their waffles one time soon!

I found this restaurant using this app while we were staying in Richmond for a few days. This place is absolutely AMAZING!! The portion sizes are great and the taste is soooooo good! This was an amazing find on our way from MA to FL! We booked the hotel and used the GF app to find something close by for our Celiac son for breakfast. Husband ordered online and walked the two blocks to pick it up and come back for the hotel. He said it was very clean and you can tell they took gf seriously. Food was friggin’ fantastic! Nice place. Very happy to be able to buy a GF breakfast sandwich and coffee! Non-dairy almond creamer is delish. Large, yummy b'fast sandwich (bacon, egg, cheese on a GF biscuit). The GF biscuit continues to be elusive however, 521's biscuit is close, but the crumb (texture) is in-between bread-like and biscuit-like. Still a win for us GF peoples. I will return to try their waffles!

With a lot of restaurants closed in the area this little gem was bustling with business. Super clean, indoor and outdoor seating, and great customer service. This is a guaranteed safe spot for us gluten enemies. Tried “The Beaut” biscuit egg sandwich. Absolutely delicious and highly recommend adding the fresh strawberry jam. The biscuit was fresh and held together through every bite. Grabbed some fresh baked scones to go. If in town this is a must for breakfast or brunch.
