Upscale restaurant in a resort. Items on menu marked as gluten-free, others that appeared to be GF were not marked (specifically the beef tenderloin). I always tell the waitstaff that I need to be gluten free (usual GF protocol). My waiter was sympathetic and understanding except that he didn't know what gluten was. After telling him I couldn't have anything to do with bread or fried or dredged in flour he said ok... the beef is served on a potato. Ok, we're good. Except it was also topped with fried onions. Turned out he didn't write down that there was a gluten sensitivity to be aware of. OK, worse things have happened so we sent it back to get a whole new steak (sadly my husband had to eat before me and I after him). But what really burned me was that even after they made such a kerfuffle out of their mistake they kept coming over and offering me bread. Take your chances with this one. It is tasty and I didn't get sick but the staff doesn't know what GF is about, not even after you explain it.
