The gluten free menu is on the reverse side of the vegetarian menu, so don't mix them up. The manager is very knowledgeable, so if you want to be sure, ask to speak to him. Our waitress had gluten allergy awareness, but did not know that the enchiladas had flour in the filling. Manager caught it though. Only gave 4 stars because the options are still limited
I’ve come here twice with a family of four, we are all gluten free, but I’m the only one who is intolerant. I’ve never had bad food, and our service was very polite. I cannot say if there is cross contamination but I’ve never had any major discomforts. It’s TexMex, but it’s still good.
While they do not guarantee a gluten free environment, they do have a gluten-free menu and will serve baked (bland but I am grateful for them) tortilla chips in place of fried. I do well here despite being highly sensitive. If they had more GF salsa and if they had better tasting GF chips I would give 5 stars. Last week, I ordered carry-out from here, and the soft corn tortillas were handmade and AMAZING! 4.5 stars for me now!
This was disappointing. I got a tamale which obviously had been frozen and stuck in the microwave to heat up. When the waitress served it, it was way too hot to eat. It took about 10 minutes to cool down enough to eat. Even then the cheese burned the roof of my mouth. They were expensive for what they are and bland. Overall, it was not a pleasant experience. They may have gluten free options. But I won’t be returning.
Our waitresses were awesome and sympathetic, they asked the kitchen lots of questions for us to make sure we avoided cross contamination. They have a separate gluten free menu that you can ask for, which is pretty small but has some tasty options! They special made my fiancé chips using the oven instead of the fryer. So far he has no gastrointestinal issues!
Good variety of selections for gluten free menu. Had Bacon Wrapped Stuffed Shrimp. Traded garden fresh vegetables for cilantro lime rice, and traded refried beans for charro beans. They offered baked corn tortilla chips for gluten free, and separate dish for salsa to avoid contamination from others at table with fried chips. Server was knowledgeable of gluten-free dining and was very nice. We went just before dinner rush which I recommend so that server and chef will be focused on avoiding cross contamination.
Their Gluten Free menu is quite small (no enchiladas :( ), though they do say in restaurant text that meals are made to order, so I wonder if one could ask for corn tortillas instead for meals but the waiter didn't suggest this. Their fried chips are not gluten free but if you ask they will go bake some for you, which is nice. Everything tastes really good, some things were pretty spicy. I was a bit sad at how small my tamales were, though. I'm not quite sure the food is worth the price but overall good experience.

If you want authentic Mexican food, this is not the place to get it. The gluten-free menu was extremely limited. The vegetarian menu was on the flip side of the gluten-free menu, and there was very little overlap (I’m a vegetarian, also dairy free). The waitress was very patient and helpful; she kept suggesting different items that were not really Mexican (such as a salad with mandarin orange slices). Finally, she recommended that I simply order a side of black beans, a side of cilantro rice, and a side of corn tortillas, and make my own tacos. I did just that, and the food was exactly what I was craving. But I wouldn’t go back if I wanted anything other than corporate food.

I got the tamale plate with refried beans and the vegetable medley. They have a gluten sensitive guide but have a disclaimer that they cannot guarantee a meal is entirely gluten free. However the waitress was very kind to make sure to mention it to the cook. I did get a headache after I ate there but I also have issues with dairy which my meal contained a lot of it.
There is a gluten-sensitive menu, but the server warned us that the food is not cooked on a dedicated surface and the cooks do not change gloves. Cross contamination is likely. We really appreciated the knowledge of the server but it seems like it would not be that difficult to avoid the cross contamination, a situation that is beyond the servers control.
The chips are not gf since they are fried in the same oil. Although the chef baked the chips for me and they were delicious! My server checked with the cook to make sure that my food was prepared safely and I didn’t get sick! 10/10 would return!
My husband loves Mexican food and found this place that carry gluten-free menu. He ordered tamales, lime rice and refried beans. It was delicious and very pleased with the waitress that are familiar with gluten-free. Also have baked tortillas chips that are gluten-free with sauces. Will definitely come back.
Very knowledgeable staff, they took extra care in making sure our food was gluten free and was prepared and cooked away from the other food to avoid contamination. The food was really good and the atmosphere was very friendly.
I absolutely love this restaurant! I am Celiac and have extreme allergies to items. I have not once been sick or had any reaction to their food. It's the best Mexican restaurant in town! Flan is totally gluten-free too!
Ordered from GS menu: Sweet Tea Gluten Sensitive Chips & Salsa Inferno Nima Tested & Passed: Honey/Chile Pork Tenderloin, charro beans & veggies Staff did say that the menu is GLUTEN SENSITIVE because they cannot guarantee the meal will be entirely gluten free.
The server we had took celiac very seriously. He went the extra mile with gf chips and making sure things were cooked and served separately. I didn't get sick and it felt like a victory, as having celiacs has made dining out mostly unpleasant.
nice restaurant, separate but limited GF menu. Baked chips given as regular tortilla chips are fried in shared fryer. Server even brought me my own salsa dish to avoid cross contamination. Food was ok, plenty of it...but it was not my style of Mexican food. Too jazzed up for me but I appreciated the effort put into caring for my meal.
They changed their recipes and now the "gluten free" stuff isn't any good. Very limited on what is decently safe to eat.
Hostess brought my son his own basket of chips and identified the gluten free salsa to us without being asked. Waiter was friendly and helpful, helping us choose items on the gluten free menu that would work in the kids meal. Everything was delicious!
This restaurant had the most flavorless gluten sensitive options I have had in years. Really awful. And there were no prices on the gluten sensitive menu. I ended up paying twice as much as I wanted to for food that I didn't like at all.
my wife only has half of a colon due to celiac we have tried the gluten-free menu 3 times each time reducing the items and each time a bowel explosion worse than the last the Manager says it's gluten sensitive not gluten-free
We always get excellent service here. I'm not as sensitive as I use to be but I've never gotten a reaction here. They bake chips to make them gluten free. The gluten free is small but its all delicious. Just make sure to ask for no chip in the guacamole if you order it.
I enjoyed my experience at Abuelo's. The server was very knowledgeable about celiac/gluten. She brought me chips that were prepared separately to avoid cross-contamination. They were baked instead of fried so not quite as tasty, but I'll take that over being glutened anytime. The gluten sensitive menu had plenty of options to choose from. I had the barbecue shrimp fajitas and would recommend them to others. I would go back to Abuelo's when in Roanoke again.
I brought my own plantain chips. When I asked if a specific dish (tilapia) could be made gluten-free, the manager came over to discuss it with me. The cook prepared it with a different sauce so that it would be gluten-free. I was impressed with how accommodating they were, and the food was delicious. It should be noted that I am not celiac, so I am not as sensitive to cross-contamination.
