Completely unsafe and irresponsible. I went to dinner with my family and from the start was very clear that I had a gluten allergy / celiac that was not just a preference. I ordered their pork chop which is marked on the menu as GF and again reiterated my dietary restrictions. It comes out served by a different waiter and I double check that it’s gluten free. He says it’s not and goes to check w the kitchen. Turns out the dish is not gf at all and the pasta salad on the side of it is normal wheat pasta not gf. Thank god I checked. The manager was apologetic and comped a new meal for me, but I checked their online menu again and the pork chops are still marked as gf even though it is not. So disappointing and show how little food safety they take with dietary restrictions.
They DO NOT have dedicated fryers - they keep their fryers so hot that it’s supposed to kill all the gluten, but I wasn’t willing to take the risk based on so many others saying they got sick.
I was a little hesitant about dining here after reading some of the recent reviews. And in addition, the menu listed on the My Meal App was different than the menu available. But I am SO glad I ate here! Everything was absolutely incredible. I confirmed with the host, then the server, about a dedicated fryer. I was with a large group and I am the only one with celiac. We ordered a bunch of apps, the waiter marked all of the items as celiac so I could try them all. We had the pork belly, truffle fries, doughnuts, Thai shrimp, and duck poutine (without gravy). Then ordered the Sonoran bratwurst for my meal, delish! Oh, and the cider is to die-for! Nothing but wonderful things to say about Acreage. The views and the sunset just topped it off.
No longer safe for Celiacs — My wife has eaten here dozens of times in the past without issue, but due to a change in the menu, the food here is no longer safe (June 2023). Both servers that assisted us assured her that her meal was gluten-free and that they were very cautious about food allergies. Unfortunately, that isn’t true because my wife has been vomiting violently for the past half hour with no end in sight. We suspect that the French fries are to blame. They looked different than they have for the last 5 years. Sorry Stem, but you just lost some of your most loyal customers.
Amazing! The truffle frites are to die for. Super crispy on the outside with good flavor and made in a gf fryer). The acreage burger on a gluten free bun was delicious. The ketchup that comes with the regular fries was different and delicious. I couldn’t decide between the Apple cider donuts and the donut flight so we got them both. My favorite were the apple cider donuts. Two of the three donuts on the flight were pretty dry and crumbly. They said they make their donuts fresh each morning. It was recommended to make reservations and I’m glad we did as they were really busy upon opening.
I read all the reviews saying this place wasn’t safe and I should have listened. I thought I’d be okay if I communicated with the staff and asked all the right questions but after eating here, I got sicker than I have been in years. The staff answered my questions but also seemed annoyed that I was even asking them about their safely protocols. Looking back, that was definitely a red flag. Will come back for the views and cider but will not be trusting their food ever again.
I have eaten here for years and never had any problems. Last night we went to a work happy hour before planning to head down to see a show at the Buell theater. The server asked about allergies, I informed him I needed everything to be gluten-free, he checked with the kitchen when I ordered the special and confirmed it was gluten-free. Unfortunately, something wasn’t, and I ended up getting horribly sick and never made it to the show we paid $400 for tickets to. My partner talked to the manager who said nothing had gluten in it and that they are careful not to cross-contaminate, and offered a can of cider as compensation…. I’m not saying they should have offered us anything, but it’s really frustrating when you KNOW you were fed gluten and they are not willing to try to figure out where it came from. So, other celiacs beware - this is NOT a safe place. Stick to the salads and the cider if you go.
We went for a “keep the glass” event which was a lot of fun. We got food while sipping our ciders and I felt very reassured by the staff about what was safe for me and what was not. Everyone else has said it but I’ll agree whole heartedly- the apple cider donuts were out of this world.
The menu is gluten free except for burger buns (although there are gluten free options). Great selection of eats, extensive cider menu, fun dining room, and incredible views.
