It is not celiac safe. The service was not good.

Staff was knowledgeable and helpful. I asked about recent less positive reviews, and she said that they had an issue with a trainee transferring a basket between fryers, so that is why they were telling people that things were not 100% safe. They have fixed the issue.
I called ahead and was told that while this restaurant had gluten free buns, there was nothing celiac safe as far as protein. I didn't feel safe eating there so I gave one star based on the restaurant not being safe for someone with celiac disease, not based on food quality.

Have been before many times and everything was great. Was there around 3 for late lunch on a weekday. Was told that they would accommodate me by cooking my burger in a pan instead of on the grill but in future they wouldn't accommodate. I would not be able to order anything cooked on the grill because it might be cross contaminated due to heavy use. Pretty much that means the whole entree menu would not be available including all burgers, chicken and fish. If I wanted to get there early (before 11) they would be able to have part of the grill still clean. They do have a separate fryer for fries.
We had a very different experience here than the previous positive reviews suggest. While yes there were gluten-free options, not that many, including confusion on our server’s part about whether the fryer is or is not indeed dedicated for gf items. Really, she said no and only changed her mind when I noted that other diners had mentioned they’d been told it IS dedicated. At that point, we weren’t sure whether to trust the food or not.
But completely outside of gluten-free, we just didn’t find the food quality (i.e., the burgers and fries) that good and the service was kind of absent. The fries were incredibly salty and the burger was just okay. In fact, later in the trip, we ended up getting a burger at Ultimate Burger and it was very tasty.
As far as service is concerned, I’m not sure if the server was just not into it, spaced out, irritated that we initially couldn’t find a comfortable seat (I’m sorry but it’s just plain hot and there is just no air conditioning here, like in a lot of Big Island restaurants), or what the issue was, but she was a little dismissive and not very attentive.
The good thing is it’s not right in Kona town and a bit south on 11 and parking wasn’t that hard but that’s about it. I know we would definitely not return.
Dedicated GF fryer, GF buns for their burgers, GF coleslaw that’s to die for. Loved this place and sad that we’re leaving so soon and can’t go back again. Note - our server wasn’t sure if the fryers were dedicated and initially said they weren’t, so we had to double check and confirm all was good.

Great vibe and one of the best gluten free (fluffy) buns I’ve ever had. They have a dedicated fryer for their fries and if you talk to them about what you need they’re knowledgeable. Great comfort food and burgers - a little something for everyone and a great lunch spot.

Best burgers! Awesome view! Go here!
I’m certain the gluten free bun at Annie’s is better than the gluten bun. Don’t tell the others! 🤪 Staff was knowledgeable about cross contamination and we met the owner a few days before and she was very kind. Every one here was great 😘😀

Delicious gluten free burgers and french fries! Knowledgeable staff. Beautiful location.
Delish. DEDICATED FRYER!!!!!!
They seem to know what they are doing. I asked about the fryer situation and the waitress asked me about my sensitivities. I had a delish burger with a gluten free bun and garlic fries. Felt safe and left with a full tummy.

Fantastic place nice staff great food highly suggest going here

Wonderful view and friendly staff. Gluten free bun and dedicated fryer for fries. All sauces are made in house and are gluten free. Easy access, an art gallery and gelato place next door, too.

We come to Hawaii about once a year and eat here at least twice in a week. Excellent burgers and fries. My whole family is GF but none of us are full blown celiac so I can’t speak to that. They have an Omission beer as well. Love Love Love this place!
Wonderful view and many gluten free options. The buns and local beef are excellent. We also have been pleased with the service every time we have been here.
The staff was great, server awesome! Fries are GF in dedicated fryer. Server checked and confirmed with chef. Buns get grilled on shared grill, so chef put our gf buns in a pan to keep them safe. The bun was amazing; fresh, soft, and fluffy. Overall, two celiacs left very happy and had no reaction!

Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Food was awesome! Purple potato salad was amazing, and a dedicated fryer, gf buns!
Yes
GF buns for burgers! Cute place. Next door is a gelato place with a few GF treats available. Wish I had remembered the name!
I am giving this four stars because of service not the food. The food was fabulous. Juicy grass fed locally raised burger on a GF bun with fresh toppings and GF fries crisped just right. However we never saw our server again after she delivered our food which was a bummer because we probably would have ordered more fries and a couple more beers.
She did recommend the place next door for dessert however, so we went there for gelato and were excited to see they had a vegan option for my daughter.
Deeeelicious! Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Always exciting when the fryer is dedicated GF for fries. GF bun option for burgers, too.
Yummy burger, knowledgeable staff. Great purple potato salad. I believe the gluten free bun is the udi's commercial level one I'm a fan of in a few mainland burger places.

Best burgers on the island with so many options and yummy toasted gluten free buns! Add some garlic fries and what more can you ask for?! Note - fryer is not GF dedicated, so not good for celiacs, but as gluten sensitive I've never had any trouble.
knowledgeable about food handling, good GF bun and sides. unfortunately no fries.😔
Yes
They did not have a gluten free bun. It was on bread, which fell apart. I ended up eating the burger with a knife and fork.
The fries were cooked with other gluten items so I got the coleslaw. It was ok.
The staff was nice and helpful.
We won't go back.

Amazing burgers — in fact, one of the best I've ever had. Very knowledgeable staff. They keep all gluten items off the grill, so the meat is safe from cross-contamination. Sadly, the fryer is shared, so no-go on the fries. That was the only downside. I'd go again in a heartbeat.
Yes
They have a surprisingly delicious gf bun. The burger I ate was amazing, and the staff was really knowledgeable. Great view.
Everything was excellent for GF and nonGF diners. Burgers are available with quinoa / flax bun but the fryer at the Kona location was not dedicated so he couldn't have the fries. The server was very aware of what he could/could not have and offered a side salad as my son is also allergic to citrus (slaw) and eggs (mayo in the purple potato salad). Salads looked yummy too.
When I was vacationing in Hawaii in 2014, I went to Annie's Burgers. The burgers were tasty! Our server was extremely helpful with GF DF orders! Fries are made with dedicated fryer! I recommend!
Yes
Incredible burgers! Fresh local ingredients. Gluten free buns that were not the typical Udi's sort. Cider and hard lemonade as well as other options. I don't have Celiacs so didn't ask about isolated fryers etc but the serving staff were informed about which items and sauces I needed to avoid (be sure to ask as some use Worcester sauce or soy/shogyu sauce in them). Also plenty if salad options.
