This used to be one of my favorite places to eat but I found out they no longer take precautions to prevent cross contamination. I'm really disappointed.

ArepaTX is inside Harvest Hall. Our experience with them was wonderful. Husband and son have celiac so we thought we could give arepas a try since they are made with PAM (corn flour) that is GF. There are some sources of cc since the grill where they heat up the arepas, it is also used to heat up flour tortillas. Same happens with their fryers. They are not dedicated so fried yucca (unfortunately) is not an option. Being all this said, this is why we are recommending this place. The cook took all precautions to make our meal safe. He changed gloves, heat up the arepas in aluminum foil and went over all the ingredients with us in case he was missing gluten somewhere. He wasn’t sure if the BBQ sauce was GF so he showed it to us and it indeed was. Yummy food and no reaction! I would suggest you visit this place when it’s not too busy so they can deliver the same service. Also, everything is cooked in front of you so you get a chance to add more recommendations if you feel that’s necessary.

I am sad that when they moved they did not remain celiac safe. Their old location in Dallas was once our favorite gf spot in town but unfortunately, they did not take into account the gf community when they made this move. No dedicated fryer for the delicious yuca fries, not nearly enough space to avoid cc and no real protocols for it either. Clearly no training on gf with new staff. Definitely not celiac safe, a much smaller menu, and nowhere near the goodness of its former location.

Was advised not to order due to the risk of cross contamination and shared cooking surfaces.

Success! I am Celiac and highly sensitive to cross contamination, therefore I avoid dining out the majority of the time. I have been curious about Harvest Hall and potential options, and finally decided to go and see what might be possible. The woman who assisted me was very kind and at first was scared there might not be anything for me, as I have a corn intolerance and dairy intolerance on top of being strictly gluten free. After a thorough conversation about the gluten items and equipment in their kitchen, it was determined that a bowl option would be my best choice. I got the beef. It had rice and black beans and avocado. I left off the plantains as we could not establish if the fryer would be safe. I left off the included arepa, she was unable to ensure it wouldn’t be cross contaminated by quesadilla preparation. My meal was FANTASTIC! She gladly accepted when I asked if she would follow allergy protocol and change her gloves. She washed her hands without me needing to ask. I ate safely and when I asked for a to-go lid and bag (large portion!) she was super excited and happy that I liked it and was okay.

The person taking my order had the cook change his gloves. Most of the menu is GF. I ordered the Chicken Salad Arepa. I tested it with my Nima sensor and no gluten was detected. The walk-up “restaurant “ is located inside the Hotel Vin in the Harvest Hall food court. The Arepa was very tasty!
