After having a rough time in the Fremont area with food options, this was a welcome reprieve for me. Got the yellow curry which was a huge portion and had no issues. Also ate their cookies, which were dry and crumbly (yay GF) but safe from what I could tell. My husband ordered their spicy chicken option and just cautioning that it is very spicy! If I am ever back I need to try their other options.
We ordered the food to be delivered to our hotel so I can't comment about food prep but it is advertised as a dedicated gluten free restaurant. We ordered the Chicken Curry, The workout, and Miss Jones. Incredible taste and flavor.
I had a number of different meals from Asian Box while in the area and really enjoyed the food. The Six-Spice Chicken in the boxes was delicious and I really enjoyed the make your own boxes as well, particularly to make my own salad. I ordered through Uber Eats and didn't have any issues.
We were looking for gluten free food and we were surprised how close it was to my place and we didn't know about it. We loved the food here. I m allergic to gluten and I was happy to see everything was 100% gluten free, they have the whole place gluten free. It's a must go place for sure.
I've eaten at this asian box location and other asian box locations in the bay area many times. The food is consistently good and I like that they always give you a lot of vegetables. However, there is only one vegetarian option on the menu. That being said, the tofu is really flavorful and always tasty.
A solid 4-star experience. I love that they are 100% gluten free as it makes it so easy to order with gluten allergies or celiac! The inside is clean and modern, though seating is a bit limited.
I ordered the “workout” box and the chicken seasoning was really yummy. However the overall contents of the box were a bit off - the sauce on the chicken did not nearly cover the veggies or rice so half was totally bland and half had a little sauce on it. The amount of protein (chicken) was also very small and not as filling as other similar type of restaurants in other cuisines. The cold bean sprouts and veggies made the chicken and rice lukewarm which was not so good either. The value for the price is decent. I would be back if I needed gluten free food in a pinch, but wouldn’t recommend for a filling meal or if you prefer a well-balanced meal.
I love this place. I feel totally safe eating here. Last week I had a new menu item, the banh mi sandwich, and I’m obsessed! The bread was fantastic, the whole thing was just delicious. I wish they had Coke products like they used to. They’ve switched to Pepsi. But it’s worth it for that sandwich.
Came here with others for lunch looking for a gluten free option on Burlingame Ave. I have a strong allergy to wheat and alliums. It feels very reassuring to come to a 100% gluten free restaurant. Tracy, the manager, was super helpful about letting me know what I could eat. I had a really tasty meal of stir fried tofu, rice noodles, peanuts and sprouts with a soy vinaigrette. It was so good, I ordered an extra side of noodles and vinaigrette. The marinated steak and shrimps my friends had were also good. We also had brownies and chocolate chip cookies made at a gluten free bakery. Yumm...will definitely come back.
Can’t live without asian box. When I travel I pack a couple of asian box meals with me now. My favorite is chicken jasmine rice all toppings with tamarind and sriracha sauce. Burst of flavors! Chicken curry is also nice. Things I would change: the spices on chicken is a bit too exotic to me, and the skin has a gamey taste. Beef is tough and hard to swallow especially when cold. The garden box needs more flavors. Pho soup needs some salt. Hot chicken needs some umami.
Per a review below, I checked the Maggi bottle—it is labeled GF, and the ingredients show it as corn-based, no wheat. I’ve had the bahn mi a few times at multiple locations and always enjoyed it with no issues. (The roll is crispy & great, and all the food here is really flavorful.) We also had coconut chicken curry, kids steak box, shrimp spring rolls, and cookies. All delicious! I always eat at this micro chain in the Bay Area and took some kids this time. Review written by a Celiac kid [and sibling]: “This place was amazing, except the coconut curry sauce was a little spicy. [Other kid: “That’s your opinion; we don’t have to write that.”]. The broccoli was really good. The shrimp was amazingly seasoned. So many options to choose from. Chocolate chip cookies are amazing. I have another dislike, the beers weren’t gluten-free [“You can’t even drink beer.” “I know, but, since they have gluten beers, they’re not 100% gluten free, only 99%.”] Overall, it was all very good.”
The parking lot can be challenging at lunch time but once we were there, the staff was helpful and things went fast and smooth. The chicken bone broth soup was good and it was nice to eat in a gluten free and safe environment. Beyond the soup though, and some tasty sauces, no one in our group was super impressed with the food. It was fine, but most items were bland.
