Per a review below, I checked the Maggi bottle—it is labeled GF, and the ingredients show it as corn-based, no wheat. I’ve had the bahn mi a few times at multiple locations and always enjoyed it with no issues. (The roll is crispy & great, and all the food here is really flavorful.) We also had coconut chicken curry, kids steak box, shrimp spring rolls, and cookies. All delicious! I always eat at this micro chain in the Bay Area and took some kids this time. Review written by a Celiac kid [and sibling]: “This place was amazing, except the coconut curry sauce was a little spicy. [Other kid: “That’s your opinion; we don’t have to write that.”]. The broccoli was really good. The shrimp was amazingly seasoned. So many options to choose from. Chocolate chip cookies are amazing. I have another dislike, the beers weren’t gluten-free [“You can’t even drink beer.” “I know, but, since they have gluten beers, they’re not 100% gluten free, only 99%.”] Overall, it was all very good.”

My husband loves to get a banh mi here. It was his favorite thing before going gluten free. The bread can be a little weird and it isn't exactly traditional but he likes it.
I love to get all the different combo boxes. Really easy and delicious.
And plus 100 for having a GF dessert option.
Got takeout from this location. I got the pho with tofu substituted. My meal was missing some toppings and the bean sprouts were pretty soggy looking so i didn’t use them. Not sure if they wilted bc of it being takeout or just not great quality. Enjoyed our meal a lot at the Sunnyvale location though.
Decided to grab takeout from them on a whim since I noticed they were a certified gluten free facility and I’m epipen level allergic to gluten. I bought the Vietnamese Hot Chicken with a Caramel Egg which was delicious (the spice level will knock you on your butt though so definitely make sure you have a cold drink) I made sure to test the meal with my NIMA which came back 100% gluten free/safe!
Delicious! Everything is fresh and the flavors are spot on. They even have gluten free chocolate chip cookies! We’ll definitely be back.
I was a little worried about the previous review so when I went in to eat yesterday I asked to see the ingredients in the banh mi sauce. Turns out they don’t use the actual Maggi brand sauce because that has gluten in it. Can confirm: they use a GF Maggi-type sauce. While I didn’t order a banh mi, I got pho and the salmon salad. So far so good with no reaction. I’ve also eaten a Miss Jones bowl and spring rolls safely at the location in SFO before a flight. 10/10 would eat here again.
I'm traveling. It's the last day before I fly home. A friend took me through San Francisco and we had a great time. No issues there, had lunch in a dedicated GF restaurant (The Game Parlour in SF, fantastic mochi waffles).
Dinner in the way to my hotel back was another supposedly GF place: Asian Box. I was psyched to have a banh mi on GF bread! But it wasn't the bread that did me in. It's the sauce that I'd never heard of before, but (stupidly) assumed that because the place was dedicated GF, would not have gluten in it.
I just woke up at 12am with shooting gut pains and feeling the worst chills I've ever felt -- thought I was dying tbh. And the intestinal stuff has hit, so I looked up the bahn mi ingredients, and the sauce listed on the bahn mi ingredient list, Maggi, is literally made of hydrolyzed wheat protein! What the actual f***?
I told the server that I was excited to have a banh mi because I hadn't had one since before I was diagnosed with celiac! The place has great reviews here, and I thought I'd found a gem. Instead I'm awake four hours before I have to leave for the airport feeling like death, and how am I going to manage flying cross-country with celiac cross contamination symptoms (the gross ones)? Damn it. I hate travel 😭
Won't eat there because they couldn't tell me if the gluten free options had soy sauce in them. Soy sauce can have gluten unless it is esp. made. I passed out of frustration and won't bother to go back. Educate your staff, or don't make claims that could make people sick.
As the whole store is GF, it feels quite luxurious to enjoy absolutely anything on the menu. I love the Ox Box, personally, but I haven’t had anything that wasn’t at least tasty.
The parking lot can be challenging at lunch time but once we were there, the staff was helpful and things went fast and smooth. The chicken bone broth soup was good and it was nice to eat in a gluten free and safe environment. Beyond the soup though, and some tasty sauces, no one in our group was super impressed with the food. It was fine, but most items were bland.
