LOVE this bakery. They don’t have a giant selection, but there are def still a variety of options. I got the mungbean ‘egg’ n sausage breakfast sammy (they make the sausage fresh in-house) and it was absolutely delicious. The entire place is allergen free and honestly taste great. The chocolate chip cookie was soft and perfect, and their tea cookies have a very nice crumble. It does run a bit expensive, but what GF food isn’t these days, and I’ll happily support a black woman owned business that feeds our community whenever I can!!
Picked up a 2G2G bag from Askatu while visiting Seattle for a conference and decided to grab a sandwich while I was there. I'm so glad I did! They have some of the best gluten free bread I have ever had. It held together, did not disintegrate and tasted good, too. I can't wait to sample my bag of treats. If I lived in Seattle, I would come here often.
As someone with multiple dietary restrictions, I was definitely excited to try this out! I arrived at 10am when they open and most items were not available, which surprised me as I would imagine this is to give them adequate baking time. Unfortunately between the insanely high prices (I paid $19 before tipping for a cookie and a poptart) and the baked goods being so so at best I would not recommend this as Seattle does have many options that are safe for gluten free that beat this by a mile for value, options, and taste.
Not just gluten-free but free from all the top 9 food-allergies! The mango tart, crispy waffle thing dipped in chocolate, ginger cookie sandwich, and giant chocolate chip cookie were awesome. I will be coming back here as long as they’re still in business. This business is also women & BIPOC owned
Update: parking has gotten really difficult here making it harder for me to visit when I’m in the city. Also prices are noticeably higher than other high end GF bakeries I go to —even compared to pricier places like San Fran. I still pay $10 for a pop tart —but it’s A lot!
Wow!!! Must visit for anyone with allergies to gluten or other items. There is no compromise in quality of baked goods here. I love this place! Also I try to avoid gums in my food for digestive reasons and this place doesn’t use any gums in their Baked goods— unlike other GF places. All vegan though you’d never know there aren’t eggs in their stuff. Also I love the hot savory filled pancakes for a light lunch. Cannot say enough good things! Make sure to order breads in advance. And check hours.
Incredible find! Such a friendly staff. Super tasty sandwiches!
This 100% gluten-free bakery and café in Seattle was a joy and the food is delicious. My favorites were the many flavors of tea cookies and the breakfast sandwiches. I stopped here several times during my time in Seattle. The people running Askatu are lovely, and made me smile with the several conversations we had and their help choosing items on the menu.
A safe spot with ok food. Nothing exciting. Also “vegan” but has meat? I was really disappointed when I walked in and saw 5 options. It was very expensive, too. Especially for the quality and size (small portions). $11 for a veg sandwich made on bread smaller than regular GF bread. Everything is made with buckwheat. Manage your taste/options expectations before coming here
Walking into the bakery I got super excited to know that I could eat anything there. The tea cookies were great, just a small bite with bug flavor. I had the monster cookie and it was so full of chocolate and so delicious! I ended up bringing a s’mores home with me to Boise and OH MY GOODNESS!! I wish I had more!!
Wonderful bakery and they are often at Farmer’s Markets. They do not bake with any of the top seven allergens.
I love all of the sweet things including the whoopie cookie (like a big Oreo cookie), Mexican wedding cookies, cupcakes, to name a few. Outstanding focaccia. Thier special order cakes and pies are wonderful. They made a cake for Jane Goodall on her 90th birthday (she’s vegan). 💗
The staff are wonderful, very warm and welcoming. 💜
Woman and BIPOC-owned. 💗
The service was really wonderful - the people working there were kind and warm, and I'd love to go back. The coffee was delicious and there was a good range of gluten free items. I bought some cookies and a breakfast sandwich. They were pretty good but nothing special. I almost feel bad saying that because the staff were so lovely I want to support them!
Such a cute spot! Was able to indulge in my first ever gluten free moon cake (they had ube and red bean flavor available), and snack on some delightful tea cookies! I also ordered a breakfast sandwich with bacon and mung bean egg that I enjoyed. The owner has a daughter that grew up with a wide array of allergies, which inspired her to open this bakery/restaurant. Since the entire facility is not only GF but DF, I felt very comfortable eating here.
Not gonna lie, I went in with the perspective that the more “free” one makes a recipe or product, the less likely it will taste good to anyone. But! I am wrong about that when it comes to Askatu!
I was able to go one afternoon when I was out of work early and in a nearby neighborhood. (I am usually at work across town during their open hours.) I lost my mind a little and ordered like 6 cookies and a panini sandwich.
The sandwich was small for the price (and compared to the usual mainstream versions), but it was really good! My favorite of the cookies was the no-nutter butter one dipped in chocolate and the peppermint patty. My favorite of the tea cakes is the plain vanilla. But they were ALL good!
Looking forward to going back soon. :)
Everything we had was so good. Like I can't believe my sausage breakfast sanwhich was both vegan and allergen free. My boyfriend (a gluten eater) also loved his sandwhich. The iced mocha was really great, just know they only have coconut and oat milk. The pop tart was bordering on too sweet, but that wasn't a problem for me. And my BF got one of the truffles, he said it was great! Sandwiches are made to order, so be prepared to wait a little. I felt like coffees also took some time to make, but I'm from New England, and everyone is in a rush there lol
