They have a menu which shows what does and doesn’t have gluten and flour. The waitress also gave me separate food since this is more of a family style place where everyone digs in at the table. Two choices of meat and most of the sides, aside from the biscuits, are gluten free. Best BBQ place I’ve been to since I was dx’d with Celiac 8 yrs ago.
I get the chicken that isn't fried (I can't remember what it's called???). And I also eat the sides with the exception of the gravy and rolls. Ive never gotten sick and the food is amazing. While I miss eating their chicken fried steak it is nice to still be able to eat here.
went here and they honestly said they had no gluten free food....its fried chicken for crying out loud.
Staff were knowledgeable about what was GF or not. GF menu items were limited, but delicious: smoked chicken, fried catfish (dedicated fryer), mashed potatoes (NOT gravy), green beans, and creamed corn. The salad was NOT GF, nor was the bbq sauce or the amarillo sauce—so bring your own dressing with you if you want it! The smoked chicken was very flavorful and juicy, so it didn’t need any sauce for dipping. Would definitely be back again!
Babes has many sides that are gluten free such as the corn, green beans, and mashed potatoes (no gravy). The sides to avoid are the salad, biscuits, and gravy. The meat that is gluten free is the smoked chicken and fried catfish. The fried catfish is fried in a dedicated gluten free fryer. My daughter has Celiacs and had no issue there.
This location offers 2 entrees that are GF: hickory smoked chicken and fried catfish. Green beans, corn and mashed potatoes are safe. Salad is fine if no dressing (salad is just lettuce but they said the vinegar used in the salad dressing contains a problem ingredient). Don’t eat the gravy or biscuits. They made a note on our called in order and carefully packed the biscuits separately. So happy my hubby could enjoy Babe’s for Father’s Day and there was something I could eat, too! A later visit, 2024: server discussed the salad dressing with the kitchen and assured me the vinegar used was safe. No problems!
I eat there often but I don't usually eat the corn. I ate the corn recently and had an attack. I called to inquire if the corn was gluten free and they said yes. Searching the internet it says their grandma's corn has flour. I usually eat catfish, green beans, mash potatoes and salad. Be careful and do your research.
