11-24-2024 update
I’ve been coming here for 2 years, once every couple of months. Staff used to tell me how they specialize in gluten free and be very knowledgeable about precautions taken, now they cannot tell me if the gluten free waffles are made on the same iron as the glutenous waffles, only that “they are made in the same area” and that “they are careful”. Had a lovely evening with friends here (which included a GF pancake). Usually gluten free variants are announced when brought to the table, when this didn’t happen and I tried to confirm with the waiter if the pancake was gluten free he said “does it taste like gluten?!?”. Which was not reassuring. Needless to say my lovely night out was followed by some cross contamination gluten associated vomiting.
Stick to the chicken and the veggie sides, I guess?
Sad to see my safe place become a gamble.
Previous review:
I am very sensitive to cross contamination. This is the only restaurant I feel safe going to in Atlanta. They do serve waffles that are glutenous, so I make sure to be very adamant that my order is labeled Celiac precautions. I’ve eaten here at all times (Saturday morning brunch, Valentine’s Day, slow weeknights) and never gotten sick. It gets very busy, though, such it is hard to hear your server. If you haven’t memorized the menu, try it at a slower time first.
Wow! This is my go to place when I’m in the area. Everything is amazing. I loved the fried shrimp, chicken fingers, pancakes, fried green tomatoes, Mac n cheese and more! Highly recommend!
I’ve been coming to Bantam And Biddy for the past 10 or 11 years and when the original owner, whose son had celiac, was still involved with the restaurant, the food was always safe. Lately, though sometimes, depending on the chef, my daughter who has celiac has gotten sick. Also the taste and quality of the food also depends on the chef. The staff at this point doesn’t seem very knowledgeable about celiac or gluten-free food so we take a chance every time we go. The service has also gone down a lot over the past two years, since they changed managers.
I really wasn’t a fan of my food here unfortunately. I tried the chicken tenders, fried green tomatoes, cornbread, and fries. I did like the cornbread (spicy!) and fries but the rest was blah and flavorless. My Mom loved her chicken salad sandwich (she’s not GF). Service was great.
Really great place with INCREDIBLE MAC AND CHEESE!!!!! Chicken strips and wasabi honey was also a treat! I did not care much for the key lime “pie” cake or the lil cheddar roll that came with the entree. Still edible but did not compare to others Ive had before. Man I already want more mac and cheese! I did not get sick.
Amazing food all around! Menu is labeled clearly. Highly recommend!!
Randomly stumbled upon this place & I was so happy with my experience. All sides were gluten free, they have a dedicated fryer & desserts you can get by the slice in the bakery case! I had a gluten free fried chicken sandwich spicy with jalapeño broccoli slaw and jalapeño cornbread! The chicken sandwich was delicious and the bread was toasted & a great size, the cornbread was just okay in my opinion but the slaw was great! We will be back again!
The Find Me Gluten Free app let me know the Atlanta location was along our route on a recent trip so it was a must stop. Headed to Alabama and we knew ATL would be the last spot to get food without having to go way out of the way.
This was so good. All their fried food is safe, most anything can be made GF if not already gluten-free. So many incredible choices. One of best car meals (#roadtriplife) in some time.
My meal- Chicken Tenders (yes fried), Mac & Cheese and Fries
My husband's meal- Fried Shrimp Basket w/ Fried Green Tomatoes
It was so good we absolutely went out of the way to go back on our way back home.
We found this by accident at Atlanta airport. I thought there must be some mistake when it said meatloaf was gf. BUT NO! I had the roasted chicken, collards and candied yams. My hubby had the meatloaf. It was all SO GOOD. I have celiac. So sensitive. All was great! (The people working didn’t seem to think it was a big deal-but it truly was) The rolls are NOT gf.
I have celiacs and am dairy free. The waitress said most things on the menu are gluten free which is clearly marked. However, she also said the most everything has dairy in it. She suggested a vegetable plate. I asked her to check if the roasted chicken had dairy, which she did. I was able to order that. Overall, it was a very bad experience and the food was mediocre except for the sweet potato fries. Thankfully the food was safe as I had no bad reactions.
This place is a must-visit location for gluten free people and celiacs in Atlanta, especially for brunch! The majority of the menu is naturally gluten free or modifiable (ie, the cornbread is always gluten free and the pancakes made gluten free are even better than the regular ones — or so I’ve been told by my family). (Don’t miss out on the GF carrot cake either!) I’ve been coming here since I was diagnosed and have always had servers who are knowledgeable about celiac, and as a result I have never gotten sick and have always enjoyed the most delicious meals! A definite visit.
Absolute best fried chicken I’ve ever had and I’m super picky!! Pancakes were also very good (just a little too flavorful for me). I would most definitely come back. 10/10
Eaten here several times. Each time I've experienced some gluten poisoning. At first I couldn't be sure it was Bantam & Biddy, but now after a half dozen times I am beyond doubt. People with Celiac's mustn't eat here. Despite only a couple gluten items (waffles, pancakes, and biscuits), it's clear the staff doesn't know or care enough to prevent cross-contamination.
So delicious!!! Each location has a slightly different menu. Everything that is deep fried at this location is GF and wow. Also, all side options are gf including the mac’n’cheese. My heart is so full. Oh and my stomach!!! What a great experience!!! Super friendly staff and they do what they can to minimize cross contamination to the best of their ability. They warned me the only thing that’s even cooked on the same surface is the gf pancakes. I didn’t get those as I’m very sensitive. Fyi-I will definitely update this if I have issues
I know this place has awesome ratings & I trust that others had a positive experience, but I was definitely glutened after eating here and I’m really disappointed. Because others had a great experience, I just told the waiter I had celiac and a “severe gluten allergy” and didn’t ask questions about their protocols, but looking back, maybe I should have been super careful anyway. I was really excited to have GF fried food, but it ended up not being worth it to be sick for the 3 days after eating :/
