They’ve changed their menu a few times since they’ve been open but they seem to have gone all in on GF this time. The GF popcorn chicken was AMAZING. They were like yummy chicken nuggets. Well seasoned breading and very moist chicken. I got them plain and got to choose a sauce to have on the side. The fried pickles weren’t anything special, but I’d definitely get the chicken again.
Got fries. No issues.
Will go back to have a real meal with my Nima.
UPDATE:
Got the El Cartin salad and tested that with OUT the dressing and Nima tested it gluten free. Yummy and safe!! The staff and kitchen seems to have made improvements based on my convo and it showed in my meal. I wouldn’t eat there without testing, but glad for an option in a very limited area for my diet.
UPDATE UPDATE:
Ok. Been back a good amount of times and 65-70% of the time the food test negative (no gluten found) with my Nima. When gluten is found they’ve remade or removed from bill. They are always cordial about, so I’ll continue to dine here. However, I would never eat without testing first.
I have gotten sick here 2x. The first time my food was clearly cross contaminated and I got sick. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt and went back one more time for brunch. My eggs came out with regular bread. When I told the waiter they needed to make me a whole new dish because I had celiac he brought back another plate a little too quickly. I asked if it was new food and he said yes. I got sick anyhow and I suspect they did not actually change the food and just changed the bread which had already touched the eggs. Never again
Fairly large selection of gluten free breakfast options. Ended up getting the American burger and the gluten free bun was hands down the best gluten free bun I have ever had. It was very soft I think it had to be a tapioca bun. I usually get my burgers on a lettuce wrap bc I don’t enjoy eating a sponge as my bread but I would def opt for the bun on the next time. Gluten free tater tots fries and sweet potato fries with dedicated fryer. No reaction or bubble gut.
Amazing selection and everything is marked gf vegan or both. Delicious options and great service. Everything is customizable!! And you don't feel like the outcast at the table.
I ordered take out from Bareburger the other night and I have eaten at the Great Neck one many times before. I have celiacs disease and I can only eat gluten free foods. I specified this three times during the order and the person on the phone said they would put my order separate from my friends (who is not gluten free). I brought the food home and saw that they put wrapped pieces of bread in with my order. I called the restaurant and they apologized and said they could not guarantee that my salad wasn't contaminated. So I could not eat it and didn't have time to go back to the restaurant. The guy on the phone said he did not know how to refund me the money on my credit card and so I had to give him my name and get a restaurant credit. Why would I want to go back after that?
Update: a manager contacted me to apologize and stated they took my complaint very seriously. They said they were going to resolve the issue and they take food allergies and issues very seriously. They even sent me a gift card with an apology note. I will definitely give them another try especially because they are usually excellent in the Great Neck location.
