I was so disappointed in my experience at Barrio in downtown St. Paul. My dinner there ended up being one scoop of guacamole, a baggie of chips I brought from home, raw veggies and a margarita. That was all that I felt comfortable eating (and basically the only things I was offered). The menu denotes “gluten friendly” items and I researched beforehand on this app for other reviews so I felt comfortable enough that I would be able to find something to eat there. I looked over the menu when I arrived and thought a shrimp and quinoa dish sounded safe. Our server, Amber, was very nice and said that she understood that Celiac was serious and would talk with the kitchen and her manager. The manager never came over, even though Amber said she kept asking her to. In the end I was basically told that they were not able to accommodate me and didn't even want to try. At least they're honest. I was told there was “flour in the air” in the kitchen and they couldn’t guarantee that anything would be safe enough for me to eat. I was offered raw veggies. The only pass that I will give them is that it was a busy Saturday night. I do feel that good customer service would have included the manager coming over and maybe offering for someone in the kitchen to handle my meal a little more carefully, like they do at other restaurants that are not 100% gluten-free. Most are at least somewhat helpful. They just didn’t want to try to help me. I won’t be back to any of the locations here in Minneapolis/St. Paul. I think they should just remove the notation of “gluten-friendly” options from their menu. I absolutely would NOT recommend this restaurant for Celiac diners.

Pricey for the small portions you get. Not bad gluten-free menu though.

Lots of options clearly noted on their menu. Was recently told chips are fried in oil with gluten items - huge bummer as they have great salsas and guacamole.

Definitely try the Chicken Enchilada - it's a sweet surprise. The corn chowder is also really good. Gluten free is noted on the menu & staff is very knowledgeable.

Gluten free listed on menu. Mexican tacos and small plates. Great guac and chips made to order. Great happy hour drink and food specials. I am dairy free too and my taco came with cream sauce, but they fixed it right away no questions asked! Will return.

The service here can be the worst, but I think the food is great. I'm pretty sensitive to cross contamination and I've never gotten sick here (I eat here about once a month).

The staff was very clear that although there was a gluten free menu, there was almost no chance there wouldn't be cross contamination. I was starving, so I took a chance, which I later seriously regretted. I won't be eating at Barrio again, but not a bad place for a margarita.

I found lots of GF options here, using fresh corn tortillas instead of flour. Food is good although pricey, but man do they make one helluva margarita. My only disappointment is that they make their own chips in a shared fryer, so no chips for me (I'll bring my own next time.) Their tableside guacamole is outstanding, and the bartender was happy to bring me some vegetables so I could enjoy it. In fact, when I ordered the guac I wasn't thinking about the cross-contamination issue with the chips, and the bartender was the one who brought it up, so he was very knowledgeable and was watching out for me--very appreciated!

One star is too many. Awful, rude and ignorant service. Unwilling to listen to food needs

The restaurant was great. The menu was very gluten friendly. I would be back if I lived out in Minneapolis.
